American Idol creator and XIX Entertainment founder Simon Fuller will partner with 19 Entertainment and CKX, Inc., to manage the winner of season 10 . Fuller — who has helped advise previous Idol contestants like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, and Chris Daughtry — served as manager for season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert in 2009. “Simon Fuller is the rare breed who can effect popular culture both in America and in Europe,” Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records (and season 10 mentor), said in a press release. “He has brought us a platform for music like nothing before it in American Idol. The opportunity for this year’s winner and runner-up to be managed by someone of his caliber along with UMG’s commitment to these artists and show is incomparable.”
Fuller had a heavy hand in helping reinvent Idol this season,
but throughout the past 10 seasons, the Idol creator has remained focus in discovering talent. “Simon Fuller and I have worked together on Idol throughout the entire history of the show,” Iain Pirie, president of 19 Entertainment, said in the release. “Simon’s vision in creating the show was to provide a launchpad for breaking new music talent. Two hundred and fifty million downloads later his success in achieving that goal is completely evident. I couldn’t be more excited to continue to work in this exciting new partnership between 19 and XIX.”

‘American Idol’ recap: Motown Madness

Jimmy Iovine needs an editor for his press releases.
Hey Simon: start now by having six or seven recorded songs in the can so you can release an album immediately after the win — and not eight months after the fact when we all don’t care anymore.
Thats the biggest problem that needs to be fixed. The winner should have a song or CD within a month. Waiting until November does not work
That’s the thing that never made sense about AI. Why don’t they have the winner and runner-up immediately start recording their albums after the season is up and then go on tour (instead of the other way around). That way they can have their albums finished by July and in the stores by August.
No matter what anyone says about American Idol, good or bad, I will always be grateful to them for bringing me Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert.
I agree. Kelly has impacted my life so much that I will forever be grateful to American Idol.
Replace Adam with David Cook and I’m there with ya.
Adam stands on his own and David should also. Adam is great glad that Idol discovered him.
Adam is definitely in a league of his own – the man is unbelievably talented. Really like Kelly and David Cook as well.
I would put Lee DeWyze on that list, who I think is underrated. A co-worker lent me her CD and I gotta tell you–Lee’s CD is terrific! I’ve been listening to it for the past several days. I think it’s the best CD since Daughtry’s first album. There’s a ton of great songs on it. At one point, there’s 4 really good songs in a row: Beautiful Like You (reminds me of an REM song), Stay Here (love the reggae beat!), Me and My Jealousy (like the emotional intensity), and Brooklyn Bridge (like the jazziness of it). I’m surprised Lee’s CD hasn’t gone to #1 yet. It reall is good if listeners would give it a chance.
That’s how I feel about Allison Iraheta! Her Just Like Me cd is really so so good, and suprisingly it has a very wide ranging appeal – genre and age-wise. So bummed her label dropped her. Hope she can make something work. Check out that cd, it is really so great!
I agree. My two favorites Adam & Kelly. Two great talents.
James Durbin, or Pia Toscano would be American Idol winner or perhaps Casey Abrams. But not Lauren Alaina and Thia Megia, because they’re both too young in their teens, and need to be voted off to finish high school. They have good voices, but need time before grown-ups when graduating.
He didn’t manage the others before?
I think he currently manages Underwood, Cook, and Lambert.
He manages Underwood & Lambert right now but not Cook.
Simon still manages David.
No, he only selected a few to manage. He’s only managing two right now. His two favorites
I am confused. If Simon Fuller doesn’t manage Cook, who does? And why then did he produce his new cover song “Don’t You Forget About Me” that is used as the going home song on Idol. And oh, David Cook is by far my favorite.
Yes, he still managaes David. And if he didn’t anymore I think we would have heard something about it which we haven’t so.
Doesn’t matter who wins I don’t plan on supporting any of these Idol contestants. They haven’t impressed me and don’t stand out. Not only that, but because they are getting so much extra help from producers etc they are becoming a man made product before the season even ends. Do we really know if we are seeing the real person or the man made one? H
That’s my beef also. If Jimmy is pulling all the strings from the get go, are we really seeing the true artist week after week? And for people who want the idols to work on album during show. When do they have time to do this? I don’t see how you expect a quality album when they are suppose to be coming up with original songs each week, learning dance routines, going to PR outings, and shooting Ford commercials?
Well, I think Jimmy has been good for the contestants (and show) because he’s giving consistent advice, week after week. When it’s a guest mentor for this week, another guest mentor another week–how can that really help the contestants? They’re probably getting so many different viewpoints that they don’t know who to trust. There’s 3 things that I like about AI this season: 1) Jennifer Lopez, 2) 3 judges, and 3) Jimmy Iovine.
I have to agree with this. At least in past seasons the Idols were allowed to create their own performance. Here they have top notch producers doing everything for them. They’ve become puppets. The show is now so over the top commercial that I’m finding it difficult to watch.
I agree. It is like they are trying to make them great performers to fast and they are rehersing the love out of the songs. I think they actually get worse in some ways – trying to hard instead of being themselves as artist. Really odd this year.
That is awesome. This year is much better. No more stupid save..thank goodness..it should of never been allowed in the first place. And the winner and contestants get more help.
Of course you don’t like the save because it takes away power from the audience. Even though I’m part of the audience–I’m all for it. I’m the first to admit that the audience doesn’t always get it right.
If you look at who gets dropped, they very frequently don’t get it right – Daughtry, Lambert, Hudson…
I will always be grateful we have an Adam Lambert in our midst.
I’ve always loved the show, still do, and, say what you will, I will always be indebted to it for providing Adam Lambert the platform he needed to showcase his mega talent!! Also, I’m glad the contestants are getting some help this year. Plus the talent seems much better. Some of them seem ready to go just out of the box already. Even tho at times it seems like they’ve had a LOT of perks this year with their performances, I’ll take that over last year, cause last year my husband and I were saying why don’t they help these people, lol.

Tue 03/29/11 2:12 PM – I would put Lee DeWyze on that list, who I think is underrated. A co-worker lent me her CD and I gotta tell you–Lee’s CD is terrific..
=============================
Agree, and it wasn’t only Lee that suffered the negativity that fell over the whole show from producers and judges that badly needed a shakeup, and a Seacrest that badly needed a little sitdown about his antics as well.
Dewyze is better than he was cast.
Bowersox is more than a Lilith Fair tribute act she got steered into appearing as.
Casey has a rocking good act – The Casey James Band – now out on the road.
Siobhan Magnus is working two albums – an out of the mainstream Lunar Valve band one that likely will not get much of a broad audience, and a solo one she is cutting in Nashville. Magnus also spent 4 months weighing managers offers – settling on a manager that will hopefully keep her inner freak both happy and somewhat in check. She also had a childrens book she wrote accepted for publication.
Aaron Kelly is in Nashville recording as well.
Is there any news on Michael Lynche? He was my favorite last year. But I agree Lee didn’t deserve the hate he got, but I didn’t think much of his CD. In my opinion, Kris’s CD was extremely underrated. Live Like We’re Dying, Before We Come Undone, The Truth, I Need to Know, and Alright With Me were all fantastic songs. David Cook’s first CD was fantastic, too, but he got good reception for that one.
I’m still looking for someone to excite me like Adam Lambert. Nobody this year again…no “it” factor but a lot of talent. I don’t see anyone from this season making it really big.
I will forever be grateful to American Idol for introducing Adam Lambert to us.
I will always be greatful to AI for introducing to us, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert. I love them both. The best!!!!
Kelly is a great singer also.
Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry and the wonderful Adam Lambert is the best they have had on American Idol…Oh! I forgot one who should of been the winner an that is Clay Aiken….These are the best singers they have had….No Show has been like AI the year of Adam….
Thanks for hitting the nail on the head…this year’s Idol is too overproduced and stylized. I can’t get behind the contestants, evn if they are talented. As for me, David Cook will always be the greatest American Idol. He gave the show heart, substance and rare talent.
I also liked David on the show a lot, but Adam Lambert is IT for me. The guy just blows me away. I do look forward to both David and Adam’s new albums. Glad to see Jennifer Hudson’s new album doing well too.
