Norah Jones joins Rufus Wainwright, Jimmy Fallon and more in two-day concert tribute to the late legend Kate McGarrigle -- EXCLUSIVE

When folk icon Kate McGarrigle passed away over a year ago after battling a rare cancer, not only did Rufus and Martha Wainwright lose their mother, but music lost one of its most unique singer-songwriting voices.

McGarrigle inspired a host of high-profile musicians throughout her four-decade career, and EW can now exclusively reveal that jazz songstress Norah Jones will be joining an all-star roster of artists paying tribute to her in New York’s Town Hall this May.

The nine-time Grammy-winner Jones will join an all-star roster of artists for a two-day concert event, which is set to include performances by Rufus and Martha, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Fallon (appearing in a musical capacity), Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons), as well as Anna McGarrigle, Kate’s sister and musical partner. Beady Eye: Liam Gallagher talks about his new band's CD, the last time he spoke to Noel, and why he 'likes the Gaga'

BeadyEyeImage Credit: Steve GullickIt has been eighteen months now since Oasis broke up following a backstage blowout between singer Liam Gallagher and his guitarist brother Noel before a scheduled show in Paris.

That’s a long enough period of time for Liam to form a new band, Beady Eye, with Oasis members Andy Bell, Gem Archer, and Chris Sharrock, and for that act to record their debut CD, Different Gear, Still Speeding, which was released March 1. However, a year and a half is apparently not a lengthy enough period for the Gallagher brothers to have kissed and made up.

In fact, Liam says that he hasn’t spoken to his brother since that night in Paris, and that there wasn’t a lot of “speaking” going on then. “We screamed at each other,” he recalls. “It wasn’t speaking, but sort of shouting at each other. And that was it. Never mind.”

After the jump, Liam and Andy Bell talk about the debut Beady Eye CD, the royal wedding, and Lady Gaga.

Today in Covers: Katy Perry does Gaga's 'Born This Way,' and Selena Gomez does Jessie J's 'Price Tag'

Covering songs is fun! And singers love to do it! Just see the recent spate of covers, with pop stars taking on the songs of other pop stars.

On Sunday night at a concert in in Houston, Disney princess Selena Gomez made her love for rising poptress Jessie J apparent with a stirring performance of “Price Tag,” while yesterday, Katy Perry did the same thing with current Lady Gaga anthem “Born This Way.” (Note the screams as she uttered the opening line, “My mama told me when I was young / that we were already superstars.” This crowd loves Gaga!)

The criticism I’ve heard of both covers doesn’t have anything to do with how Selena or Katy performed the songs, but rather that they performed them at all. Is it a bit early for one pop star to be covering other pop stars’ songs that are currently on the charts?

I don’t know what the protocol is, but I get why that would seem a little egregious: Basically, these covers could be seen as plays for attention. Like, are your own songs—or even older songs by other artists—not enough to generate the buzz you desire? Regardless of that line of thinking, I still rather enjoyed both covers, especially Katy’s acoustic take on “Born This Way.” Watch them both here:

Coldplay's new album delayed? Not true, says rep

coldplayImage Credit: Sarah LeeDespite a report on Perez Hilton today (via online fan group coldplaying.com) that Coldplay’s upcoming fifth album has been delayed from this spring to October, a rep for the band says that’s not the case.

The original coldplaying.com post, which stated in part,”I can confirm the change of plans in the Coldplay camp regarding the schedule[d] release of LP5, originally before summer. Hope people can wait until October,” has been debunked by the band’s rep, who says there was never a firm release date to delay in the first place.

Frontman Chris Martin has variously described the still-untitled folllow-up to 2008′s Grammy-winning Viva La Vida as being about “two like-minded outsiders who meet in a very difficult environment and therefore have a journey together” and also addressing “love, addiction, OCD, escape and working for someone you don’t like.”

Martin also told the BBC last December: “We spent a year making a lot of noise. You know those things in a fairground where you have bran in a tub and in there are some hidden prizes? That’s sort of where we are at.”

'Glee': Warblers album to be released in April

It took only one song—Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”—for Blaine (Darren Criss) and the Warblers to become fan favorites on Glee. So, it’s only natural that the Warblers will be getting their own album due this April, according to Fox.

The series’ will release its fifth soundtrack album tomorrow, which includes season two tunes like “Thriller/Heads Will Roll” and “Take Me Or Leave Me.” It’s unclear what the track listing for the Warblers album will be but safe bets are “Teenage Dream,” “Hey, Soul Sister,” and “When I Get You Alone.” This week, Blaine and the Warblers (including Kurt) tackle Neon Trees’ “Animal.” Listen below to their cover: READ FULL STORY »

Lupe Fiasco reveals he contemplated suicide, pans his new album

Lupe-FiascoImage Credit: Lionel DeluyIt’s no secret that rapper Lupe Fiasco is not a fan of the record label system as a whole. But after being forced to continuously edit, add, and subtract from his oft-delayed third album, Lasers, he’s just about fed up. In a recent interview with New York Magazine, the Atlantic Records artist says he doesn’t “really give a f—” about what the set—out tomorrow, March 8—does as far as sales are concerned. After several failed attempts at parting ways with Atlantic, Fiasco hopes his remaining years under Atlantic are easier ones.

Christina Aguilera and record label sued for 'Ain't No Other Man' sample clearance

Christina-AguileraImage Credit: Rick Diamond/WireImage.comChristina Aguilera just can’t seem to catch a break. After screwing up a bit during her Super Bowl performance in Feb. and being arrested for public intoxication last week, today she and her Sony label are being sued for unlawful use of a sample, The Huffington Post reports. The song in question is her 2006 smash “Ain’t No Other Man,” which obviously pulls from Dave Cortez and the Moon People’s 1968 cut “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut.”

TufAmerica owns the rights to the jazzy retro track. Unfortunately, Sony did not deal with them to acquire it. TurfAmerica filed a lawsuit recently against Sony demanding they be declared the rightful owners of the song and not Codigo Music, whom Sony apparently cleared the sample with, as well as restitution.

With nothing but desert sands, Willow Smith turns nothing into everything in the video for her new single “21st Century Girl.” The pre-teen queen and her crew yank buildings out of the dirt and dance in streets during the clip. “I’m the type of chick that likes to rock the beat,” she sings in a Ke$ha-esque fashion. That she does.
