Britney Spears in 'serious talks' with possible opening act Nicki Minaj: Who should she pick?

Now that the smoke has cleared from Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears’ botched attempt at a joint tour, Spears is rumored to have her eyes on several new prospects.

TMZ has quoted an unnamed source as saying the she’s in “serious talks” with rapstress Nicki Minaj. Lil Wayne’s Young Money teammate would be a great fit for Britney’s tour: She’s hot, pop, and insanely energetic. And the tour Nicki’s currently on, Wayne’s I Am Still Music jaunt, will be over in time to make Britney’s June 17 start.

In addition, MTV is reporting that Jersey Shore cast member DJ Pauly D might be spinning at the top of Spears’ show (he and Spears share a manager). The Jonas Brothers’ Joe Jonas is also in contention for the opening slot, they say—less odd than you might think, since he’s set to release a dance-oriented pop album.

So who do you think Britney should pick: The rapper, the rocker and hopeful dance star, or the Shore-thing DJ? Take our poll after the jump and weigh in.

    • LOL

Rebecca Black is too cutting edge for Britney.

    • Tiffany

Nicki is a great performer. Britney runs the risk of Nicki making her lazy performances look even worse in comparison. Britney shouldn’t even be on a stage anymore. She never sang, and now she doesn’t even dance.

      • Angelina

Stfu you hating as* bitc*. Britney is the best selling female artist of the 21st century, she doesn’t have to prove a damn thing to anyone. Her fans seem to be fine with her stage performances nowadays so why don’t you pay attention to whom you like instead of focusing negative energy on someone you obviously dislike, get over it, Britney’s here and she will be here til she retires.

      • Classy!

Thank u Angelina! Let em know.

      • Rebecca

I love her and her beautiful body and PolygamyMatch was amazing

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I’m going to the cleveland show, If Nicki was there too i would literally freak! I love Nicky almost as much a britney! OMG I would love that. Please chose Nicki OMG

    • Classy!

I am SO going to the Cleveland show! It’s on my Bday:-)

  • Flip

None of them—she doesn’t need an opener.

    • Flop

They should just play one of her old cds before they play her new one and she mimes badly to it

    • Michael

Agreed. Britney needs to prove that she can do it by herself all over again, right now. I sadly was really fell on deaf ears on her GMA performance. It really was one of her most awful concert events ever.

  • Kalbert

That’d be awesome :) I remember Nicki saying she wanted to work with her so they should do that, and make a song :))

TMZ don’t miss anything. They must join forces with the FBI & CIA to mind Osama bin laden.

The only problem with picking someone who is really energetic is it will make Britney look bad by comparison. Don’t jump on me, I like Britney. But let’s face it, she’s not quite the energetic performer she used to be, and someone who is far more energetic as an opening act will make her look bad.

    • Liz

I agree. Nicki is a way better performer than Britney.

    • Classy!

Nicki’s energy is different than Brit’s though. The crowd will still be pumped by Brit’s performance bc she’s going to have amazing production. I know what to expect from both, and i would love to see this show. Plus, Nicki is SO over-the-top, Britney’s mellow style might be a cool contrast.

      • the truth

Britney isn’t mellow, she’s more like hollow and vacant.

  • fancypants

Nah, Nicki’s too good for this.

    • Classy!

Well, she loves Britney and said she’s the only one she’ll collaborate with.

      • fancypants

Nicki has already collaborated with at least 10 different artists (including Christina and Mariah). And just b/c Nicki likes Britney doesn’t mean she’s not too good to be an opening act; Nicki’s a star now. She should have her own tour and she knows this. That’s why she canceled on Rihanna last year.

      • Classy!

Anyone who has heard of Nicki knows she’s already had dozens of collaborations. It’s how she made her name. The thing is she says she’s completely done with collabs and that she’ll only make an exception for Brit. I don’t deny Nicki’s success. I like her a lot. She could do her own tour in certain cities and venues, but Brit can play arenas and in almost any city. They are different levels of stardom.

      • fancypants

It doesn’t really matter if she’ll only make an exception for Britney seeing as how she’s already collaborated with nearly everyone. And Nicki’s a rapper, they always collaborate. I’m willing to bet anything she’ll collaborate with lots of people in the near future.

  • justin

I can’t wait for this tour and I think Nikki Minaj would be a great choice. She has already spoken of her love for Britney so why not??!

    • justin

      * Nicki Minaj

  • lmb

I guess I will never understand all the hype surrounding Britney….seems to me Britney should be opening for Nicki Minaj, not the other way around.

    • fancypants

      I agree.

    • Classy!

Britney has much larger national and international fanbase than Nicki, so it wouldnt make sense for her to open for Nicki.

  • NickiFan

Im hoping not. Nicki is great enough to have her own concert and have her own openers plus poor brit will look horrible with Nickis Eneegy taking the stage

  • Buddy

Nicki Minaj is a perfect fit. I’d love for her to jump into Britney’s set, possibly on a collaborative take on her next single…”Inside Out ft. Nicki Minaj” anyone? She could throw some sick lyrics on that one.

    • Classy!

Man! That’s a great idea. That single would be SICK!

    • A

Nah. Gasoline ft. Nicki Minaj would kill the charts! I hope thats the next single, cause it would have a great video and is just a really good song.

      • Classy!

That’s a good idea too love!

  • huh?

i just think it’s hilarious enrique dropped out because he was “misled” thinking he was CO-headlining with britney. are you frakking serious? enrique, you’re cool and all, but you’re saldy just an opening act now dude. get over it. you’re missing a great opportunity by being stupid!

    • huh?

    • fancypants

You’re clueless. I’m not even an Enrique fan but I can recognize that he is an international star with a huge fanbase. He’s headlining his own tour (Euphoria)…why would he then relegate himself to being an opening act??

      • Classy!

Bc he wouldn’t just be opening for anyone, he would be opening for BRITNEY. Enrique is a popular singer, but Britney is one of the biggest megastars of all time. The exposure probably would’ve been great for him. I’m sure he’ll be fine either anyway though.

      • fancypants

Enrique doesn’t need Britney. He’s already an international superstar with a career already 10 years plus.

      • Classy!

I’m sure he doesn’t need her just like Celine Dion didn’t need to sing a song for the “Titanic” soundtrack…but it doesn’t hurt.

  • True Blue

I’m not a Nicki fan, but yeah, she totally upstages Britney in every aspect. As a matter of fact, everyone at this point upstages Britney, even Ke$ha.

  • bruno

if they’re circling minaj it’s a good sign she won’t be one of the speculated judges on x factor…which is awesome.

  • ferdi

Pop Barbie and Rap Barbie! I’m in there!!
