Yesterday, “Weird Al” Yankovic took to the Internet to express his frustration with Lady Gaga, who had withheld her endorsement of Al’s “I Perform This Read the full post.

So this means his new CD can come out, right?

      Hopefully!

Nothing against Weird Al, honestly. I liked several of his songs, and he seems like a cool guy. But it’s 2011. He’s been at this song “parody” schtick for more than 30 years! Isn’t it time to stop beating that long-dead horse?

You could argue that he has been at it a long time and that would be a true statement. But, why would he stop doing something that obviously generates enough income to make it worth it. It’s called the Entertainment BUSINESS. Look at all the movies and music that is released these days, it’s simply a rehash of something that has already been done before.

Sorry that should be Weird Al. My bad.

    • @Bebe

Sorry, but really stu- I mean silly thing to say. Parody is a very old, very respected practice, and Weird Al continues to be very popular and successful at it. The horse is flourishing.

Still can’t get used to Al without the ‘stache!

Really EW? Calling Lady Gaga “Pop Queen” ? I expected more from this magazine than for it to be enamored with a fad.

      I can’t at the presseditude.

He was miffed because he had a green light from them initially, then they apparently backed out. I’d be frustrated too to put work in and have the rug pulled out from me.

Weird Al was given a maybe and told to send the lyrics. He sent the lyrics and they told him to send the song for them to hear. Then he went through the time and expense of recording it only to be told no. If it was just a no, nothing would have been said. But he went to the expense of delaying release of his album AND paid to produce the song. I’d be miffed too.

Weird Al is a smart businessman, but I don’t think he was trying hoax anyone. He often takes his frustrations to his (MANY) fans via his blog or tweets. He spent his own time and money to create this song and had every right to leak it as he did his “Pitful” James Blunt parody.

The other point that should be made is that his offer to donate proceeds from this parody to HRC is no stunt. He and his family have long been active supporters of equal rights for the LGBT.

Al is fantastic, genuine and talented…I’m glad things worked in his favor. Gaga will only benefit from this.

When will the world be cleansed of this overrated hack?

  • Luke

Yeah right. This is the same like the Barefoot Contessa “not knowing” that a boy with cancer wants to cook with her before he dies.

I think it’s time that girlfriend changes her name from Lady Gaga to “Lady Full-of-Caca”

  • Beth

It sounds like she expected this to go away quietly and reacted when fans spoke out and were interested in donating to a worthy cause.

And Weird Al wasn’t upset that Gaga said no, he was upset that whoever was behind it made him jump through hoops for the possibility of approval, and then wasted his time and money once he’d recorded the song. Weird Al has always been a class act and it seems to me that most artists trust him, I can understand his frustration with how this was handled.

    O.o 25 years?! I think someone needs to use a calender and a calculator…
The man has been at it for over 3 decades, 35 years people. That’s better than most musicians. Weird Al has more respect, honor, and showmanship, and professionalism in his pinkie than most people experience in a life time. Al will be in the record books as the man that made it to where he is today with honesty and style
