In an interview with BBC radio, Morrissey has declared that he will not be watching tomorrow’s Royal Wedding. He also criticized the royals for being “benefit scroungers.”
“Why would I watch the wedding?” said the ex-Smiths singer. “I couldn’t take any of that seriously at all. I don’t think the so-called Royal Family speak for England now and I don’t think England needs them. I do seriously believe they are benefit scroungers, nothing else. I don’t believe they serve any purpose whatsoever. I’m not an anarchist but I believe that people don’t want the Royal Family. The so-called Royal Family. They’re not royal to me. But they’re royal to the media for some reason.”
Morrissey previously poked at Prince Charles on the title track of the seminal 1986 Smiths album The Queen is Dead: “I said Charles, don’t you ever crave / To appear on the front of the Daily Mail / Dressed in your mother’s bridal veil?”

Morrissey in stable condition after onstage collapse

Morrisey makes perfect sense.
The whole royal wedding crapola is a big silly charade.
this is nothing new. moz has always hated the royal family, and with good reason.
Monarchies suck . They always have , and always will.
Your mom likes to suck
so does yours, thats how you were conceived.
Morrissey is right on.
Actually in one area he isn’t. Polls of the people in England consistently show large majorities support the monarchy.
And you believe those polls because….?
Believe them, don’t believe them. I’m just pointing out that there is considerable evidence that runs contrary to Morrissey’s claims that people in England don’t want the royal family.
Polls often don’t show the real picture. While some polls show that the majority of the British people support the monarchy. What they don’t show is that opinion is changing and that British republicanism is a growing sentiment
England already tried life without the Royal family awhile back..and they decided though they shouldn’t have any real politcal power (Parliament & the Prime Minister run things) they missed them..they missed the tradition and pagentry that was on display today …so for Morrissey to play the role of rable rouser is par for the course with his career…however I wish the could decree the Smiths get back together ..when is Johnny Marr & Morrissey ever going to make up?
And when in history was that? The only thing I remember was the Interregnum under Cromwell in the 1600s. And the reason for the Resoration wasn’t exactly because “they missed the tradition and pagentry that was on display”.
The royal family are like zoo animals, really well paid and cared for zoo animals.
I completely agree with Morrissey. Why should we care about the nuptials of people born into privilege who walk around with an undeserved sense of entitlement?
I’ll admit that I’m completely sick of hearing about this wedding. That said, speaking as an American, the Brits are lucky they’ve got royals to obsess over instead of the Jersey Shore, Real Housewives, and other dreck that we’re inundated with over here.
Nail + Head
he should appreciate-the royals cost the brits a hell of a lot less than our politicians cost us with the overseas adventures, overblown military spending, tax breaks for ev ery lobbyist who buys lunch and lifetime pensions after only serving a term not to mention stacked courts (against us) and so many nitpicking laws to feed the private prisons no one can escape debt slavery.
Morrisey is celibate…I think he has pent up rage
He said hes given up celibacy..it shouldnt be too long until he declares his homosexuality… By the way..hes badass!
What does his sexuality have to do with this? He can say what the heck he wants.
Monarchies have whole history of nonsense and silliness. Louis the 14 th, Louis the terrible, Louis the big and fat blowhard windbag , ect . Get the f#*k out of here with that bull crap already . We are in the 21 century . Time for everyone to wise up.
There’s already enough stupid American women from “the Heartland” gathered in London with their stupid hats for this “historic” event. Yeah, great way to show how wonderful Americans are supposed to be.
I agree with him. I’m totally put off by the media’s coverage of it too, especially in the states. The American people don’t really care!
really then why are they watching?
He is right. Every time I switch channels it’s all I see, we fought a war, shed blood to get away from this crap.
Yeh, I tried to find something on TV that WASN’T the wedding and all I could find was SNOOKER.I hate snooker cos it’s so boring but I found it more entertaining than watching the whole disgusting spectacle of parasites parading.
Morrissey is spot on. The royal family within the UK has long since served their purpose if they served one at all. Morrissey stated years ago when talking about “Spitting Image” a biting political puppet show that “the makers should be sued for making the royal family appear more attractive than they actually are” he also when asked if he had one bullet who would he shoot first. His answer was that he’d line up the whole royal family one behind the other and shoot them all at once. This wedding is basically a PR exercise that will keep the royals on the current gravy train for another 50 yrs.
He must have regurgetated the 1 bullet thing because he said that about Robert smith of the cure and mark smith of the fall back in the 80′s if my memory serves me well? Either way a bit unoriginal and I personally enjoy the smiths, lol.
Goddigger:Esther Vilar sometimes has a tounge-in-cheek writing style in “The Manipulated Man”, but she is absolutely pointing out reality. It applied at her time, and it applies today with the irrelevant caveat that women today aren’t so *obvious* about using men to live off of. I saw a study that even ostensibly high-powered women in law and medicine etc. at Ivy League schools are sitting at home ten years later – being supported by a willing dupe, I mean a husband. The idea today is to go to college and get a good-sounding title. I’m a doctor. I’m a lawyer. I’m a Candlestick-maker. And then conveniently forget to mention that you don’t do much work in that area – or any – and Hubby does the heavy lifting with regard to money.Same old stuff. And she is still getting death threats, so something about her bothers other women.
The revolutionary war was fought to bring about the radical at the time notion that “all people are created equal,” which in principle and philosophy the monarchy is in direct oposition to. But now it’s as if media is blowing this royal wedding thing in such a way as if it’s the most important event in our lifetimes. The whole media frenzy is ludicris, overblowing both its importance and overestimating how much people care. If should just be relegated to the “entertianmet” portions, along with movie reviews, not “real” news (because that’s what it is, basically; a big reality TV show wedding. Which is fine, but not worth this fuss). Morrisey is right, but I’d go further; not only is a modern monarchy useless; they’re offensive. Still, wish Will & Kate happiness.
Stop being so bitter, not healthy.
Whatever Kelly lets ignore centuries of genocide and feel healthy. Its that inactive hippy sh*t that makes the world turn isnt it
You’re scary.
You’re clueless.
You suck.
“Irish blood, English heart, this I’m made of. There is no one on Earth, I’m afraid of. And no regime can buy or sale me.” …..Such and amazing song.
