Artist Shepard Fairey has made icons out of Andre the Giant, our 44th president, and a dude named Mr. Brainwash.
For his latest trick, he has teamed up with Death Cab for Cutie to produce the video for their new single “Home is a Fire,” which comes from their forthcoming album Codes & Keys. Watch the clip after the jump.
The video, which was co-conceived by Death Cab bassist Nick Harmer, features plenty of street art and no shortage of shots of the crumbling metropolis that is Los Angeles.
“For me, ‘Home Is A Fire’ is about redefining familiar space,” Harmer wrote on his band’s site. “The narrator in the song seems unsettled, searching and yearning, scanning the environment for something comforting in an uncomfortable place. I knew that if the band would give me a chance to make a visual accompaniment to this song that those would be the themes and mood that I would most want to highlight and accentuate.”
This is the second video to come from Codes & Keys (which hits store shelves on May 31). The first, for “You Are a Tourist,” was shot and broadcast live during a webcast.
What do you think of the clip? Does it get you excited for the new Death Cab for Cutie album? Let us know in the comments.
