Let’s not go overboard–no artist is untouchable. People cover unique artists like Elvis & Aretha all the time. Tori Amos pulls off what might seem the impossible with a smokin cover of Nirvana. Lea’s cover of Don’t Rain on My Parade could stand next to Barbra’s. The trick is to meet the standard of the original–be as amazing or better. This doesn’t do that.
Is this a real critique? I rewound it (twice) and immediately downloaded it. I love when they do something different with a song (yes, I know John Legend did it too, but it’s different than the popular version). I don’t watch for karaoke. I want them to make it sound like a Glee club. Those are the ones that grab me.
Jonathan Groff and Lea Michelle are great singers. This isn’t horrible like Gwyneth taking on Adele
THIS IS CRAP. Doesn’t even sound good. The backing vocals are off the main melody. THEY ARE CRAP.
I was cringing during this performance. Lea Michele is a pitiful singer…she wouldn’t even make it through the auditions on American Idol.
You have a right to your opinion, but may I make a suggestion? YouTube one of her performances of “Mama Who Bore Me” from Spring Awakening. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Her voice lacks the depth of Adele’s and I thoroughly agree that there was a decided lack of intensity. There just wasn’t a real connection to the performance…
I LOVED this rendition! I think it’s actually a testament to Adele that her song can be covered in such a way that it’s not just karaoke-mimicry. Lea and Jonathan’s vocals were fabulous!!!

Call me crazy but I thought Jonathan Groff sang it better than Adele. I LOVED his deep raspy voice!! Vanilla…absolutely NOT!! Lea…maybe (but she’s playing Rachel so..) He was totally hot and sexy!!!
I just heard Adele sing this….sorry still say Groff is better! For a guy version anyway!!Admit..Adele is fab…untouchable…but sorry Groff blew the song away!!
