Phil Spector’s attempt to overturn his murder conviction was rejected yesterday by a California appeals court, according to the AP.

The producer was convicted in April, 2009, of fatally shooting actress Lana Clarkson. Spector is currently serving a sentence of 19 years to life for second degree murder.

The appeals court dismissed the claim by Spector’s defense attorney Dennis Riordan that the prosecution should not have been allowed to call female witnesses who alleged Spector had threatened them with guns. The court also rejected the assertion that Clarkson might have killed herself.

Riordan later said that he would seek a re-hearing before the court and that he was prepared to petition the California Supreme Court.

'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' to host weeklong tribute to Bob Marley with Jennifer Hudson, Chris Cornell, Lenny Kravitz and more - EXCLUSIVE

Last year, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon invited a handful of bands to pay tribute to the Rolling Stones in honor of the re-release of Exile on Main Street. It was a tremendous week of music, featuring performances by the likes of Green Day and Phish tackling classics like “Loving Cup” and “Rip It Up.”

Starting on Monday, May 9, the musical guests on Late Night will all tip their (giant, dread-covering) hats to reggae legend Bob Marley in honor of the 30th anniversary of the great one’s passing.

Monday night’s show features Bob’s son Ziggy, while Tuesday night’s (May 10) episode welcomes Chris Cornell. Jennifer Hudson checks in on Wednesday (May 11), Jakob Dylan pays his respects on Thursday (May 12) and Lenny Kravitz wraps things up on Friday (May 13). Each artist will perform a classic Marley tune that pays tribute to his revolutionary spirit and deep influence on music.

“Big up Jimmy Fallon for honoring the memory of my father,” said son Ziggy, who will also spend time on the couch discussing his father’s legacy with Fallon. “Much respect.”

Though Fallon is still a relative newcomer to the late-night scene, his show has rapidly grown into the best place to see after-hours performances from some of the greatest names in music.

He shrewdly hired the Roots as his house band, and since the show’s inception has played host to a number of huge musical moments, from the drum-off between Ringo Starr and Roots drummer Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson to Fallon dressing up as Neil Young to perform Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” (with assistance from a very game Bruce Springsteen) and bananas hip-hop collective Odd Future’s first network appearance.

The weeklong tribute to Marley promises to be yet another notch in Fallon’s ever-expanding musical belt. So tell us, readers: What Bob song would you like to see each slated artist get irie on?

Iggy Pop, 'American Idol' judge? It almost happened, says the punk legend

A few weeks ago, Iggy Pop performed “Real Wild Child (Wild One)” on an episode of American Idol. It was a lot like most of Iggy’s public appearances, which is to say it was manic, full-throated, passionate and shirtless.

He looked a little out of place on the Idol stage (even with Aerosmith frontman and former cocaine enthusiast Steven Tyler rocking the place up significantly this season), but can you imagine if Pop himself was the guy sitting behind the judges’ table trading bon mots with Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez?

Apparently, neither could Pop, though apparently that was a plan for a hot minute. In an interview with Billboard, Iggy said that the producers of the show dipped their toes into his pool for a brief second before hiring the new pair of judges.

Chris Brown pays homage to his idol Michael Jackson in 'She Ain't You' video: Watch here

Chris-Brown

Chris Brown‘s style as a singer and dancer has been heavily influenced by one man: Michael Jackson.

Brown, who payed homage to Jackson at last summer’s BET Awards, often gives the “King of Pop” his credit. So it’s only right that after sampling a Jackson classic for his new single “She Ain’t You,” the young talent acknowledge his favorite teacher in its video.

“Dedicated to my biggest inspiration of all time… I Love You,” Brown writes at the start of the clip. “You,” which pulls from Michael’s Thriller ballad “Human Nature,” adds a little more bounce to the idol’s solemn cut. It sounds more like SWV’s 1992 incarnation.

In the video Brown wears an MJ-esque fedora and in addition to his tremendous dancing, there’s a a little movie magic with him doing some extreme leans and levitating. Watch the clip after the jump.

Justin Bieber goes Down Under, gets egged by Aussies

Justin Bieber is no stranger to having things thrown at him on stage (remember the infamous water bottle that wasn’t really a water bottle?), but some attendees at a Bieber show in Australia took the projectiles to new levels over the weekend.

While performing Friday night in Sydney, no less than half a dozen eggs flew towards the teen singing sensation. None of the Easter leftovers made contact with him, and he soldiered on with the show like a professional. Check out the video below.

Steven Tyler talks drug use with Matt Lauer: 'I needed that cocaine'

Aerosmith frontman, American Idol judge, and wacky formulator of bon mots Steven Tyler joined Matt Lauer on Dateline tonight to discuss his history of drug use, fights with his band, and his new gig on primetime television.

The most interesting tidbit of the interview was Tyler’s admission that he was taking drugs as recently as 2009; he was high on stage  during his infamous spill, and a subsequent trip to rehab contributed to the fracturing of Aerosmith. Tyler also revealed that during the band’s heyday, venues were contractually obligated to have a small off-stage cubby for members to snort some of that sweet, sweet emotion. “I needed blow,” Tyler told Lauer. “I needed that cocaine. I needed it.” But he lamented the effect it had on his life and relations, including with daughter Liv: “That’s what drugs did. It took my children away, it took my band away, it took my marriages away, and I was on my knees.” READ FULL STORY »
