Imagine being a superstar, performing on stage in front of thousands nightly. You’d probably want to know the lyrics to your tunes like the back of your hand, right?
Well, the Black Eyed Peas‘ will.i.am, usually on-point with his rhymes when it’s go time, dropped the ball recently during a taped performance of “Don’t Stop the Party” on French television show Taratata.
Luckily, his smartphone saved the day; still, points were definitely deducted from what could’ve been a great showing. Check out Will’s quick-save method after the jump.
The most hilarious part about this clip is that Will didn’t go for the phone mid-verse. He pulled it out before he was supposed to begin, as if he just knew he was on the verge of blanking out and needed to be refreshed.
Sure, it wasn’t pretty. But I’d rather that than watch him stumble through his part all together.

How can you forget the lyrics when most of it’s lip-synced and auto-tuned to hell anyway?

Who cares? John Lennon used to forget the lyrics all the time in performances. And with humor. I think it only adds to the fun of it.
He was actually responding to my BBM message at the time…I said “what up!…he responded “can’t talk…busy…”. I said “driving?”… He said “performing”…. I said “with that French dude?”. He said “Y”…I said “what do you mean why?”… He said “Y means yes”…haven’t talked to him since then though
A lot of artists forget their lyrics sometimes in their concert performances. When you’ve been doing your songs for years, that memory lapse can happen. So this thing with Will.i.am is nothing new. I think that artists should ad lib or put some other words in that song if they forget. Sometimes the band gets so far ahead of the tempo and rhythm of the song performance that the singer has a hard time keeping up with the lyrics and words of the song they’re singing.
Stuff happens! Not the end of the world, but embarassing and funny!
I’m impressed by his quick google skills…if he had a bad connection he’d probably just resort to doing My Humps.
New song, he was not down yet with the lyrics. Its all good, rather have this by far than some BS Lipsink.
Martini Pachessy believes that the lip-synch machine broke and this was a cover up. All BEP performances are pre recorded
