Eminem collab tops Billboard 200 albums chart, Lady Gaga and Adele duke it out for spots in top 5

bad_meets_evil

Bad Meets Evil, the hip-hop pairing of rap titan Eminem and underground elite Royce da 5’9″ debuts at No. 1 this week on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Their Hell: the Sequel EP (read EW’s long-form review here) sold 171,000 copies, trumping 11-year-old opera poppet Jackie Evancho‘s first full-length album Dream With Me and its 161,000 units. The former America’s Got Talent runner-up’s debut rests at No. 2.

Adele’s 21 falls from No. 1 to No. 3 with a still-substantial 115,000 copies sold, creeping closer to double platinum status. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is No. 4 with 68,000 records purchased this week.

After a monumental opener (a million of the pop star’s little monsters bought it during its first week out, thanks in part to a $.99 Amazon fire sale), the numbers have been pretty humbling since.

Check out the rest of the top 10 after the jump.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE COPYCAT GAGA?

      • she so last 2 years

Ldy GG still sounding like an early-90s Tampax advert..

      • Jojo

Clue Phone – Gaga had nothing to do with .99 sale. Bo matter how many times you type it, it does not come true!

      • Rob

        JoJo,

So Gaga had NO idea over the little teeny tiny Amazon promotion???? Hmm…then how come she’s the one who pulled out from her promotion with Target? I swear you monsters only see or hear what you want to. The only reason Gaga and her record company did the 99cent travesty, was to ensure her great first week numbers. Too bad they didn’t factor in the 84% week 2 drop off. Maybe Gaga & company should spend time on their math and not picking out outfits.

      • Jojo

What are you talking about Rob. YOU only hear what you want. You are a TROLL. You have NO proof that her or her comapny had anything to do with Amazon. But keep trying. You look a bitter Britney queen with your post with false info.

      • Jojo

and w/o the Amazon sales she still sold close to 700,000. They were pushing for 500,000 1st week so Gaga still wins. You however, are still a bitter troll. Have a good day!

    • Keisha21

Adele 21- the album of the decade!

      • Mimie4Ever

The perfect a-ss is ruined every morning when GaGa puts her teeth in her mouth.

  • Jethro

The more singles that are played on the radio from Gaga will keep her sales for her DVD from rising.

In the past month, all I hear is 4 of her singles on pop radio stations.

    • Shandy

Gaga- 4 of her singles are pop garbage! :(

      • The Edge of FlopGa

        Suck This Way. Period!

      • G0dney $pears

Lady Gaga ‘Born This Way’ fails to break Britney’s record 1st week sales. Ha ha ha

  • ossie

Does anyone think Gaga burned our collective minds with all of the promotion for the album? I’m not going to attack her personally or professionally but at this point I’m tired of seeing her face everywhere.

    • jpratm

not attack but she needs to stop – GREATEST ALBUM pish posh. check out a real dance album ” Aphrodite” Kylie Minogue.

      • PN

Aphrodite was a very good dance album when I heard it in July of last year. Kylie Minogue was on her game last year. I think Lady Gaga will be fine with her new album and has had strong momentum. I think the promotion she’s done for the album is just right, not overdone too much as some people think.

    • JN

Agreed. It’s a decent album and I still think she’s a phenomenal performer, but I’m definitely suffering from Gaga fatigue. Promo overkill.

      • FedUp With Mess

        Gaga sucks!

    • Queen of Hype and Chart Manipulation

She’s all hype! Not original & played out with her whack a$$ style!

So not a FAN OF LADY COPYCAT!

  • jfms777

Sadly, I think Clarence Clemmons’ death will create interest in “The Edge of Glory,” and help sales of the single and album. I think it is the best cut of the cd. But I also think Adele will return to No. 1. To me, that is the album of the year so far.

  • PN

I like that Eminem and Royce 5 9 did well with their first week sales. Eminem is a strong selling artist and anything he puts out does perform well regardless of if it has a single or not. I think that Gaga will continue to do well with her album this summer. I believe that the recent passing of sax star Clarence Clemons, who is on 2 songs on her album, might help her sales next week.

    • Rob

Which will inturn produce even MORE press for Momma Monster. How convenient.

  • PN

Good that Jackie Evancho’s full length album sold strong its first week. And she even got Barbra Streisand to sing with her on one song on the album!

  • windrider2

Born This Way just went platinum with more than 5 million sales world wide after only one month. Her US sales may be humbling but they’re following the same pattern as most other US artists–explosive in the first week or so and then sliding downward. Globally, Gaga is doing just fine and more interestingly, the sales of her first two albums (The Fame/The Fame Monster) have been inching back up the charts since BTW dropped. Adele is hot in the US because American audiences are only now beginning to discover her, thanks to a wonderful old fashioned old school single, Rolling in the Deep. I hope she continues to do well in the US. There’s certainly room for more than one great artist here.

    • Sarnan

L Gaga..just hype with no substance. 5 million idiots bought her album..big deal!

    • Lame Lame Lame

Born This Way…5 million in shipment..not actual sales!

      Please, who are you kidding?

      • Jojo

        SOLD a$$ munch

    • Gadaffie

Greatest album of this decade?. By God no, there’s only two tracks we really liked.

Not even album of the year! :(

      • Lady Thrash Can

Hype, lies, 99cents & deal animals on GaGa’s head.

    • Carol

      Windy,

Are you on Gaga’s payroll??? I mean, if she can buy herself a promotion with Amazon, she certainly can afford you. Gaga’s dip in sales is HUGE. Please take off those Gagaish glasses and join us in the real world.

    • the truth

      5 million….in shipment!

By contrast, Adele’s “21,” after selling 352,000 in its first week, keeps steadily chugging along. It quickly replaced “Born This Way” back at the top spot and has spent 10 weeks at No. 1. In its 17 weeks on the Billboard 200, it has sold more than 2 million copies and has never dropped below No. 3.

  • Gilbert Horn

Eminem has 41 million likes on Facebook. Jackie Evancho has 69,000. It would appear that on a per like basis, the 11 year old outsold the pros 2.33 albums per like vs. 0.0041 per like. Wait till she’s 12.

  • Linda

    The Book of Mormon?

  • nerd

  • LOL

Must be a lot of young, depressed fatties out there. Adele keeps selling.

  • jets

Jackie’s great. Check out her PBS special if you can.

  • Dee Jones

I`m happy for LEDISI a true talent. I just ordered her cd, it`s gotten great reviews. Even if she aint the flavor of the month or year, so what she`s a great artist and can outsing most of the so called `divas` on the charts these days. She is the Chaka Khan in waiting!

  • shane_c

Gaga’s and Adele’s albums are the only ones that have any staying power. The rest Ive seen have a big first week and then drop out of sight. Watch for Bad Meets Evil to be below Gaga and Adele next week. Same for Jackie Evancho.

    • Joe

Staying power? You must be the drugs Gaga uses to ‘write’ her songs with. The only staying power she has is by cheating with that 99cent ‘promotion’. Gaga’s decline on the charts is already startling since she proclaimed that BTW would topple everything in sight. Continue with your delusions of grandeur little monsters. This is the fun part…watching her come back to Earth and her little monsters all eye’s bulging and slack-jawed watching those outfits fall away to reveal the true essense of Gaga….FRAUD.

      • Jojo

Yet she is still in the top 5 and you are at home in your moms basement waiting for dinner. TROLL.

    • Lauren

Meet Adele, everyone, the one hit wonder. :D

  • keith patrick

Bad meets Evil was not made to sell millions of albums. It was made for eminem and royce to have fun. It was made for the fans of rap lyricism.
