Matt Nathanson enlists Sugarland and Little Big Town for cover of 'Room at the End of the World' -- EXCLUSIVE

Singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson has been performing “Room at the End of the World” — a great, slow song from his just-released album Modern Love — on tour quite regularly.

We’re fans of it. But how do you improve on an already solid tune? Simple: Add Sugarland and Little Big Town. EW has acquired an exclusive backstage video of Nathanson performing “Room” with the two bands (sadly, minus Jennifer Nettles!) while the three acts were on tour together this past spring. It’s pretty dope when it’s all said and done. Watch it here:

What'd you think? A fan of Nathanson? A fan of this version of "Room"?

@…I must take exception to your asritseon that Jonathan here will never lose his delight or joy. It was almost extinguished, in my oldest…Hmmm…our sons share that quality of the love of “isms” and “ologies”. I’ll bet that from a young age your son would constantly surprise you with the depth of his knowledge of a particular subject…we just recently packed up and sent our son his binoculars since he lives in such a wonderful bird-watching area.By the time he was ten he could tell you the nesting habits, # of likely fledgings for a given bird, the color of the eggs, the shape of the nest, the bird’s call, the male vs. female, etc. But whence came this love of ornithology and when exactly did he acquire this knowledge? Who knows? His dad is an amateur herpetologist, so I can trace that one back directly, but not the music, or chemistry (he fell in love with the Periodic Table of Elements and had to have a large one for his wall), or enology, or World War I poets, or aviation, or languages…Of course you son didn’t thrive in school! It’s a jungle, and some of the private schools are the most overgrown feral places of all. I assure you that your son’s joy will return. It has met and will continue to meet many obstacles in this culture. However, with a few years and a bit of luck, he’ll find “a climate that suits his soul”, to parphrase the old song.Joy can be resurrected. I’ve seen it happen. Give him enough time to heal…it’s toxic out there.

Matt Nathanson is my favorite artist. I highly recommend seeing him in concert because not only is he a great singer, but he is also a comedian between songs. It is such a great experience, love him!!

    • Beth

So good! I really enjoyed Matt when I saw him opening for Sugarland. LBT is always fabulous – their voices blend scary good together. I was going to say that I wish Jennifer Nettles was there, but after listening to it, it’s great just the way it is. It would be cool to hear Jennifer sing it – maybe she and Kristian can cover this song together soon! (They did fabulous singing “Come On Get Higher” on their ‘Love On the Inside’ album – that was Matt’s song, too.) Love when all these guys collaborate with each other!

  • Brad

Great collaboration on Matt’s fabulous song! His new album, Modern Love, is the ultimate album for this summer! When you think back to the summer of 2011 it will be the one you remember as standing out. Great roll down the windows and drive music and this is a standout track!
