Is there any hobby James Franco hasn’t turned into a meme?
Acting with the aid of a mustache, painting portraits of NASA rockets, assassinating soap opera stars… And now, hovering around in another man’s psychedelic vision, at times even smiling as if he’d never hosted the Oscars.
Yes, that’s Franco’s head floating through the new video for “Rising” by Kalup & Franco, the experimental electronic group he formed recently with drag performer and fellow General Hospital alum Kalup Linzy.
Co-produced by DJ /rupture, the track (which appears on the EP Turn It Up) finds Kalup singing acid-washed R&B while Franco drifts through some kind of double-rainbow dream the background:
Is this a real band? Is it part of some larger performance art project? (This summer, Linzy’s taking part in an exhibit at New York’s Lehmann Maupin Gallery and the Four Saints in Three Acts opera installation at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art.) We’re still not sure. Franco himself told a reporter from New York magazine,”Kalup Linzy is doing the EP, I think I, like, do some spoken word on it, but that is not my EP.”
Maybe not. But somehow, we’ll bet these guys are totally psyched.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ trailer with James Franco: What do you think?

It will stop when Rise of the Planet of the Apes comes out in August. That movie looks terrible.
Sorry to be a hater (ok, no I’m not sorry) but James Franco is SO over-rated.
Why do you insist on slobbering over every little move James Franco makes? Do you owe him money?
weirdest music video. but i do love me some james franco
Kalup Linzy along with artists Billy Childish, Kim Gordon, Ryan McNamara, Tony Oursler, Dave Muller, Dario Robleto and Stephen Vitiello will be featured in a group exhibition entitled “On Shuffle” at Lehmann Maupin from 6 July -19 August.
“On Shuffle” will be on view at 540 West 26th Street and present works from interdisciplinary underground cult figures in various mediums including sound, performance, painting, mixed media and video.
I think we’ve definitely hit the “over-exposure” zone.
Do you say that Kanye stars in his own music videos? I love James, but this headline and article are a bit misleading as he is a member of the group, hence “Kalup and Franco.”
Most of the clips of Franco and some of Kalup are from when they both appeared on General Hospital.

No…just, no.
