You're Lebanese! You're...Censored: Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' banned in Lebanon

lady_gaga

Not everyone’s in love with “Judas,” it seems.

First, Lady Gaga’s religious-themed tribute to the thirty-pieces-of-silver-loving turncoat rankled some Catholic and Latino groups. Now it’s resulted in her No. 1 album Born This Way getting banned in Lebanon. Though you might think that title-track shout-out of “You’re Lebanese!” would be a source of pride for the Middle Eastern country, Lebanon’s General Secretary Department has prohibited the sale of Born This Way CDs due to its being “offensive to Christianity.” READ FULL STORY »

Kanye West's 'Monster' video is finally here -- starring two Nicki Minajs and a lady werewolf: Watch it here!

Back in December, an unfinished version of Kanye West’s video for “Monster,” a standout (and star-packed) track from West’s best-of-2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) found its way onto the Internet.

Though it was obviously still rough—scenes and effects were clearly missing—the idea came across, with disturbing images of apparently dead women lying in bed with West and hanging from chains by their necks.

West finally released the official, finished version of the clip a full six months after that initial leak, and it’s just as disturbing and fascinating as the rough cut.

Check it out below, though be warned—the lyrics are uncensored, and the images are pretty dark (and though there’s no scandalous nudity, the ladies are scantily-clad enough to also make it unsafe for work).

Paramore releases 'Monster' for 'Transformers' movie: Is the now-trio dissing their departed bandmates?

Although “Monster” is the first official single from Paramore following the acrimonious departure of founding members Josh and Zac Farro, you wouldn’t be able to tell the band is two members short just from listening.

The remaining trio stays the marketably melancholy course on this song for the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack.

“Monster” is exactly the kind of dark, tightly-constructed emo you would expect from Paramore. Sure, it’s a tad sludgier than their usual fare, but the crisp, angular guitar work keeps the track from sounding too close to ’90s alt-rock.

The most interesting thing about this single, however, are the lyrics: My (conspiracy) theory is this song is about airing rock stars’ dirty laundry, and not Robots in Disguise. Listen to it here: READ FULL STORY »

Adele cancels remaining North American tour dates, per doctors' orders

British siren Adele makes singing those heavy songs and belting out those lovely notes look so easy. But it appears that the road—and a throat infection—has taken its toll on her voice.

Today she announced that she’s canceling the remaining nine dates of her sold-out North American tour, including stints in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Atlanta, after being diagnosed with laryngitis. Her otolaryngology specialist requires Adele, 23, take the next few weeks off.

“I’m really frustrated,” she says in a press release. “I was hoping with a week’s rest I’d be better to sing again straight away. However there is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctor’s advice and rest some more. I’m so sorry. See you soon.” Her team’s working on rescheduling the canceled shows and will reveal new dates when they’re confirmed.

Steve Martin releases 'Jubilation Day' music video: Watch!

Naturally, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers’ break-up bluegrass anthem “Jubilation Day,” off of their Rare Bird Alert album, called for an animated music video in which Steve and the boys are, in fact, birds pickin’ away with their talons.

The comedy truly kicks in around the minute mark, when Steve flies to the stage and proceeds to tap his right talon during a musical interlude that gets one bird in the crowd dancing. Be sure to stick around till the end: READ FULL STORY »

Santana from 'Glee' scores album deal: Is Naya Rivera a promising solo singer? Take our poll!

Another Glee cast member is flying free with an upcoming solo album… and surprisingly, that person is STILL not Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, or Amber Riley.

Instead Naya Rivera—who plays the sharp-tongued, conniving cheerleader Santana Lopez—has scored a deal with Columbia Records.

I guess the old saying is true: nice guys finish last. Or in this case, actors who portray nice guys on musical high school melodramas finish last.

Following hot on the heels of Mark Salling (who plays bad boy Puck) and Matthew Morrison entering the solo music realm, Rivera will commence recording her debut once the current Glee tour wraps. READ FULL STORY »

Rihanna kills rapist in 'Man Down' video, Parent Television Council cries foul, and the pop star snaps back: Who's right here?

Categories: Music Videos, Pop, R&B, Rihanna

The story is simple: Boy meets girl. Boy rapes girl. Girl kills boy.

But it’s also one that isn’t going over well with the Parent Television Council and fellow watchdog elders Industry Ears.

In the clip for her latest single, “Man Down,” one dance with Rihanna just isn’t enough for a wrong-doing rasta man; when she leaves, he creeps after her. Bad turns to worse as he sexually assaults her in an alley.

See how she gets her revenge after the jump. Here’s a clue: It involves a little friend she calls Peggy Sue that fits in her shoe.

Foo Fighters slam Bieber and Coldplay, channel 'Falling Down' in new video for 'Walk': Watch it here

Ever since their first video (for the former MTV Buzz Clip “I’ll Stick Around,” way back in 1995), Foo Fighters have been one of the best video-making bands in the rock universe.

With the help of some visionary directors—including Michel Gondry, Jesse Peretz, Liam Lynch and frontman Dave Grohl himself)—the Foos have made clips that are funny (“Big Me”), romantic (“Everlong”), inspirational (“My Hero”) and simply badass (“White Limo”).

Their latest, “Walk” (the third video to come from the band’s excellent new album Wasting Light), sees Grohl get a bit distracted on his way to band practice, with hilarious results:

'American Idol' winners Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina make big Hot 100 debuts

IDOL-FINALISTS

Last week, America declared Scotty McCreery the best singer of the show’s tenth season giving him the Idol title and leaving Lauren Alaina with the second-place consolation prize. So do the charts agree with the show’s voters?

McCreery debut single “I Love You This Big” immediately shot to the top 5 of the iTunes music chart (it remains in the top 10), and bowed at no. 11 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

Alaina’s single “Like My Mother Does” also did well, if slightly less so, coming in nine spots lower at no. 20 on the Hot 100. Both Alaina and McCreery bested season nine winner Lee DeWyze, whose first single (a cover of U2′s “Beautiful Day”) slipped onto the chart at number 24.

In fact, McCreery’s debut is the highest for an Idol alum since Kris Allen crashed the Hot 100 with “No Boundaries,” though the all-time highest debut for an Idol single is still a tie between Carrie Underwood’s “Inside Your Heaven,” Fantasia’s “I Believe,” Clay Aiken’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This,” all of which debuted at no. 1.
