Demi Lovato refuses to be torn down in new 'Skyscraper' video

Demi Lovato’s new single “Skyscraper,” which has been number one on iTunes since she released it on Tuesday, now has a video to go along with it.

The clip features Lovato, clad in a white dress, standing in the desert and emotionally belting out the track, while subtle pulses depict blood rising from the ground, a black shroud drifting in the breeze, and bare feet stepping on broken glass.

There are no electric guitars or goofy story lines here—just simple, raw passion. Gaga, take note:

With clenched fists and triumphant stomps, Demi screams, “Go on and try to tear me down!” as if she’s yelling directly at her toxic former addictions. Her performance is convincing; I mean, I wouldn’t mess with her.

What do you think of the video?

What an amazing person Demi is! Even though she has been through so much she still gets up and stays strong. Not only is her song a great influence but herself as well is a great influence. People can and will learn from Demi. We are so proud of you!

“Gaga take note”? Are you fücking serious?!???

    • JimmyH

Gaga sux True Blue..the sooner you accept that fact the better. She’s a Madonna rip-off with less talent.

      • True Blue

Didn’t people blast Madonna heavily for lacking talent back in the day? And look at her now. So yeah, I don’t mind Gaga being like Madonna in that regard. Please continue to rant on how much she sucks. :D

This is a song talking about self-esteem and you immediately turn it around and pit it against another female artist. No wonder females have such self-esteem issues. Shame on you.

      • Melissa

Good point. They always try to pit females against each other, but you never hear them putting Justin Timberlake and Usher against each other. Or Justin Beiber and Kings of Leon, etc.

      • True Blue

I’m pitting female artists against each other?!?!? Did you idiots even READ the article? The writer said that Gaga should take notes from Demi, not me! Hence the quotation marks?

      • KC

Is that tartar on her front teeth?

    • Kelcie

I’m sorry there’s not another article praising Gaga. Jeez. -__-

Dnt wory u hve no any other way but ul get a pas 4r it n ul be great lve ya

    • Melissa

I agree, True Blue. Gaga can do the simple performance (see her numerous piano performances, EW!). But the fact is sometimes it is FUN to see a big production! Gaga can do both, but she prefers to add some flavor. Demi is a talented girl and I wish her all the best.

    • Faryaal

They just mean take note that she didn’t use any of the glam, extra, weird stuff that Gaga uses. Nothing personal

  • Agatha

This is great so is she, she has proven to be stronger than anyone gave her credit for. I think we will hear more from Demi in the future

    Honestly?

The video is a bit dull. It’s a fine, sweeping anthem of a song.

The video was filmed one afternoon for a couple of hundreds bucks and a bottle of water.

    • True Blue

Which is why I don’t understand why Gaga ought “take notes” from her. Yes, the video for EOG was boring as hell, but this honestly wasn’t any better. And to top it off, the song isn’t that good.

      • Winnie50

I agree that Lady Gaga ought to take note of the simplicity of the video. Everything with Gaga is so over the top, it’s exhausting. Not everything has to be a big production to get the message across.

      • whoareyou

are u serious either ur just full of ur self or crazy the song is really good so just to be clear ur comment cannot touch her ur just a little hater.

      • JimmyH

        Gaga still sux True Blue!

    • True Blue

      * Ought to.

    • Nerdista

Unlike all of your high quality music videos, right? I think it’s great, I hope she continues to take care of herself!

  • Keith

She was on my radio station this morning giving an interview, and I was impressed. She has truly fought some demons for someone so young, and she’s smart enough to know her battle is one she’ll fight all her life. I’m really happy for her and I’m rooting for her. It takes guts to be so honest about your mistakes and flaws.

  • bella

Aun no lo puedo creer , lo estoy viendo el video , I love this song , demi si que me sorprendiste, record en itunes #1 omg

  • Winnie50

Though I don’t care too much for the tone of her voice, I love the song. And she did a nice job of conveying the message of the song through her performance on video. Someone discribed the song as a sweeping anthem and I agree with that. Overall, not bad.

She Is Amazing ! even though she has been through so much! i am a big fan and always will be one, this song represents HER and nothing else. I Love demi lovato(as a fan) cant wait for the whole entire album!

  • Reg

She’s amazing and actually watching this video and listening to the lyrics of the song made me cry. She’s put so much emotion into this song and I admire her strength to stand so tall and face the demons she faced a year or so ago. She’s only 18 and she’s already gone through some of the biggest hardships life can offer. I love Demi Lovato and the message she is trying to convey to us all.

  • Calista

Every tread on this music section has a comment about gaga, enough with the Madonna comparisons, Madonna is auctually a fan of Gaga as she said before. So if the artist approves it is technically not riping off someone, and I beg to argue that Madonna has or had as much talent as Gaga does…..

  • P7

Never have been a Demi Lovato fan, mostly because I’m probably too old to even know her body of work, but let me tell you, this song really impressed me. I am familiar with her troubles (Thank you, EW), so I definitely felt the depth and impact these lyrics possess. Simple. Uncomplicated. Pure raw emotion. Nice job, Demi.

  • Lupe

Amazing. Demi made an amazing comeback with such a heartfelt song :D

  • Gin

    Great song, video, love it!
