Paramore get a little crazy for 'Monster' video: Watch it here

If you’re one of the many thousands who paid an exorbitant amount of money to watch Shia LaBoeuf stare at digital robots for nearly three hours in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, then you’ve probably heard Paramore’s “Monster” played over the credits (that’s provided that your sensory apparatus wasn’t completely fried and your organ systems weren’t going into shutdown).

It’s a pretty swell tune, though it doesn’t have a whole lot to do with Optimus Prime’s giant Chicago-killing sword or that silly space bridge that Leonard Nimoy wants to build. (If you don’t understand any of that, it means you haven’t seen Dark of the Moon and remain tethered to this realm of reality.)

Now the band—currently a three-piece following the departure of brothers Josh and Zac Farro—have pulled back the curtain on their own cinematic accompaniment for “Monster” in the form of a good old-fashioned music video.

It features an abandoned hospital, some cool effects, and Hayley Williams’ extra-electric hair, and it’s yours for the viewing here:

Perhaps it’s just the setting and the reminder that people are absent, but doesn’t that clip look a little bit like Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare” video (which itself was based on scenes from Jacob’s Ladder)? This clip is a lot less obsessed with horror, though those shots of the three band members lying in a pool of water are pretty eerie and cool.

When “Monster” first premiered, there was a lot of speculation about whether or not the track was about the departed band members (especially considering it was the first track the group put out after their exit), but neither the lyrics nor the images in the video suggest that it’s a kiss-off to either Farro brother. Regardless, it’s another entry in the stealthily excellent catalog of Paramore videos (which includes eye-poppers like “The Only Exception” and “Playing God”). Is there any other band working who does more with less with their clips than Paramore?

First off, I’d like to say I love Paramore, and I love this video! I disagree with this video maybe not being about josh/zac. I it definitely started to see a huge undertone that I think hayley, jeremy, and taylor were trying to get across. That they are in fact moving on from this whole josh/zac fiasco (who I’ll miss too). I noticed that the “monsters” were Hayley/jeremy/taylor (let’s call them ParaMonster) in beast mode in a blocked off room banging the walls and causing a ruckus, ultimately with their music, acting almost as narrators, while hayley/jeremy/taylor from the past, “when josh and zac were around,” let’s say, were running around in the hospital being tormented by the ParaMonster. It almost seems like the ParaMonster is a metaphor of josh and zac and how they treated the rest of the guys this past year or two. So overall, they had been destroying them, until the end, when hayley/taylor/jeremy come into the room, shows that they can now “stop the whole world from being a monster” because now they can enter a new chapter into their life and music and be the narrators, not Josh and Zac. I don’t know though….I kind of went out on a limb, but this is what I felt like was going on.
