The Beastie Boys have always been on the cutting edge when it comes to making music videos, but their latest winning streak might be unprecedented even for them.
After the hilarious triumph that was “Make Some Noise,” the Boys have unleashed their second clip from their excellent comeback album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. It’s called “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win,” features Santigold, stars a handful of awesomely low-fi action figures, and was directed by Spike Jonze (who also lensed classic Beastie clips like “Sabotage” and “Sure Shot.”)

EW’s Leah Greenblatt and Melissa Maerz ran through a number of new music videos in the current issue of the magazine, so I’ll let them sum up “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win.” “G.I. Joe can suck it. The Beasties make way better action figures in this hilarious Spike Jonze-helmed epic. Watch their tiny plastic legs outrun assassins! Hear them debate Mike D’s solo prospects while skydiving! See them punch an abominable snowman! But don’t worry: Per the disclaimer, ‘No yetis were harmed during the making of this film.'” They awarded the video a grade of A+, which puts it alongside such cultural landmarks as the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” and Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance.”
Though it was probably released too late to qualify for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, shouldn’t “Make Some Noise” totally sweep this year’s show? And will everybody remember the greatness of “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” for the 2012 version of the show?
Of course, the Beasties don’t need any Moonmen to be reminded of their astonishing against-all-odds greatness they’ve managed to achieve this year, but it would certainly bring them full circle.
What do you think of the “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” video? Sound off in the comments!
