According to police officials in London, the autopsy performed on late singer Amy Winehouse (who passed away Saturday at the age of 27) returned inconclusive results, and no cause of death has yet been established.

They are now awaiting the results of toxicology tests, the results of which should be back in two to four weeks. Since police have determined there was no foul play involved in Winehouse’s death, her body was released to her family shortly after the conclusion of the autopsy. Her parents are reportedly planning on a private family memorial for her as soon as possible, perhaps as early as tomorrow.

Fans continue to gather at the makeshift memorial set up for Winehouse across the street from the home where the Grammy-winning singer lived. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, addressed the crowd and thanked them for their outpouring of support. “Amy was about one thing and that was love,” he told the group. “Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends and to you guys as well. I can’t tell you what this means to us. It really is making this a lot easier for us.”

Poor troubled Amy. What a sad end to a talented person. RIP Amy!

    • Brian Wallace-Cavill

I think gato is probably correct in his assumption.

      Brian

      • Moving right along…

Can we just be done with her now? AW spent most of her career drunk and stumbling around in a haze. Yes, it was sad. There are many other musicians and artists who are sober and don’t engage in self-destructive practices. Let’s concentrate on a few of them and throw them our support now.

      • @ Brian

No, read you moron. Awaiting toxicolgy reults.

      • Brian Wallace-Cavill

@@brian: I’m not a moron, YOUR the morno!!!

      • amy’s dealer

pretty sure amy prioritized me over love…

      • Tom

But if she had you guys for friends, I would probably be stumbling around in a haze too.

She was a very talented person and it’s a shame to see that go to waste.

      • Tom

An artist that gets a grammy, and is allowed to throw herself away like that, it’s not about some addiction. It’s about money. Period. Don’t be a stupid naive little child.

    • Mark

I understand that there are quite a few people who considered her very talented, but other than music critics how many people have honestly heard of any of her songs other than Rehab? Yes it’s sad, but why is so much being made about a one-hit wonder only music critics wet their pants over?

      • blaine

Yes, “Rehab” was probably the only song played on MTV/Radio back in 2007. But as a casual fan who discovered her through various music blogs, she certainly was an artist of depth, and Back to Black is a modern classic. RIP.

      • Alex

You obviously dont know sh*t if you think her only good song is Rehab…Maybe if you had listened to more than just that tune you could comment…Think you should just shut up. Your an idiot.

      • ky

A one hit wonder?? Are you joking?lol

  • gato

Autopsy results “inconclusive” here means she took so many drugs we don’t know which one finally killed her

    • LLL

@ Gato – whether this girl chose to take drugs or not, it doesn’t matter what killed her. She was a very talented person and it’s a shame to see that go to waste. We should remember the good she had in her and not the bad. I’m sure if her family are reading these comments, that the least they’d want to hear. We should be here for their time in need and not make matters worse.

      • jen

we should ignore that years of excessive drug and alcohol consumption killed her? Really?? Ignorance and denial will not do anyone any favours, especially her family.

      • Chris

        “very talented person”? meh.

      • Oh, Well

@LLL: She was a selfish b!tch who knew exactly what she was doing. Trying to kill herself. Destroying her family and friends for years. Good riddance. Tired of hearing about losers like her, Lohan, Sheen and Russell Brand. There is no talent great enough for that misery.

      • Squishmar

Russell Brand has been sober for eight years. Why is he still a loser?

      • Tom

He did a couple of favors and was allowed to continue to exist.

      • Gia

        Eh, I’d do him…

    • tom

you are so right….we probably will never know just which drug of all that she took was the one that killed her…its sads that someone has died…but in the other hand…she didnt deserve all the fame and money…just look at how she got on stage …how disrespectful to her fans….they paid to watch her getting high….

      • cami

Amy Whinehouse was a very talented young women who made bad decisions. Its too bad that she had to go so soon…she couldve been so much more than she already is……U people need to stop being so disrespectful and remember her as a young women with a beautiful voice and great music…Not for drugs and the bad decisions shes made. I dont care what other people think , i think she deserves so be remembered in a respectful way…..My prayers go out to Amy’s family and friends.

    • lex

A PERSON DIED. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS..SHE WAS A YOUNG WOMAN WHO DIED DRUGS OR NOT SHE DIDNT DESREVE TO DIE THAT YOUNG RIP AMY

    • Nathan

She was a very musically talented idiot, not much else you can say about her. She didn’t earn the name Amy Crackhouse by accident.

    • Terri

Gatp you are most likely correct. I had a family member that was found dead and after the autopsy report came back inconclusive we had to wait six weeks for the tox report. There was a combination of six different substances, some of them similar (i.e.morphine, hydro, oxy). So very tragic..

    • Pie Thrower

LLL: I could not disagree with you more. How many times does the phrase “don’t do drugs” have to be said. Drugs killed and that is all she should be remembered for. She was a drug addict who died of drugs. This isn’t a talented person. This was stupid person who ignored an age old addage. Let’s not champion her as a martyr. Let’s use her as an example of what drugs do to the human. First they make you look like a fool and then they make you look like a dead fool.

Amy Winehouse: once a fool…now a dead fool.

      • tom

        right on…couldnt agree more

      • jen

        Pie – I agree with you 100%.

      • Gale

No, this is where you are wrong. She was a talented person. Insanely talented person that had a massive addition problem that killed her. Doesn’t diminish her talent, but it does serve as a cautionary tale.

Problem is, just saying “don’t do drugs” oversimplifies the matter. Once your hooked, it’s so hard to get clean. The trick is convincing people to never try it, and good luck with that.

      • Pie Thrower

Gale: The slogan has been preached for ages now. Yeah, you get hooked…which is why you shouldn’t start to begin with.

        I’ll say it again.

Amy Winehouse: Once a fool…now a dead fool.

      • tom

feel no sympathy for amy…you are right…she even bragged about it in her music….shes dead because she was just a low class drug addict that could sing a few songs and not very well at that….but on the other hand she was almost human level and im sure her death affected someone….sad but true

      • asher

@pie thrower – You are one of those people that refuse to see matters in grey, only in black and white. People like you are what is wrong with the world.

      • True Blue

        @ Pie Thrower:

And I’m sure you knew her situation and understand addiction so well that you’re in the perfect position to judge her so harshly. You never know what life will throw at you or your loved ones, so I highly suggest that you get off your high horse and stop acting like you’re this great judge of morality, when it’s pretty obvious that you aren’t. Honestly, you act like a know-it-all when you’re more of a don’t-know-sh*t.

    • Oh, Well

@LLL: Are you on drugs, too? You’re repeating yourself.

  • Jill S

Here’s the cause of death… Put down the cigs, drugs, and drink and EAT A FREAKIN’ CARROT, take a nap, H20, and stop sucking on the cancer sticks.

    • Benlinus

I could almost believe that, I bet you if Kieth Richards ever sobered up he’d be dead within a a couple days as well.

    • Lucy

boy aren’t you a sanctimonious twit!

    • Tom

Kieth Richards had no choice. He did all the drugs that were. And had to sober up until supply could resume again as normal.

      • Trixii

        Ha ha ha ha ha…….

  • Moving right along…

“We should remember the good she had in her and not the bad.” Well if AW hadn’t spent the majority of her time in the limelight in a drunken/drugged out stupor, this would be a lot easier to accomplish. AW’s biggest hit is about refusing to get help. So don’t be all preachy about “remembering the good in Amy Winehouse” when the very essence of her character and stage persona was to be an intoxicated “bad girl.”

    • STFU

You’re a snide pri**. People love to get high and mighty when someone famous dies from an addiction. The truth is that it’s sad no matter who it is. You probably would be more sympathetic if it was a relative or friend of yours who lost a battle with drugs or alchohol.

      • jen

and people like you like to put the dead drug addicts on a pedastal and turn a blind eye to the actions that killed them. That is nothing but utter stipidity. Amy Winehouse’s actions killed her. That needs to be remembered if only for the reason that it may in itself save the lives of other self destructive idiots.

      • Moving right along…

@ jen: Thank you. I remember when my mom was an alcoholic (she eventually stopped drinking), but practically everyone implied that it was my fault that she “didn’t get help.” As if I had some sort of magic power—and believe me, if I could have legally had her committed, I would have. It’s unfortunate that AW lived and died the way she did, and I can empathize with her. Sympathize? Absolutely not. She brought it on herself.

    • tom

      my thoughts exactly

  • Bev

If talking about her addiction and downward spiral helps someone else … then her death isn’t a waste and I think her family would be very happy.

  • Sweetangel

Now may her soul rest in peace….. GOD BLESS her Soul!!!!!!!

    • Tom

I think I am going to get her topless lady tattoo on my arm.

  • Lindy

Amy Winehouse was a train wreck of a brit. whom i had never heard her music until she died. (must not have been that good) The only things i ever heard about her was the drugs drinking getting arrested. all the train wreck stuff. I am sorry she died but if you party like she did then you die. there is no talent in the way she partied just pure stupidity. what i hve heard of her music it was not good at all. very whiney. but then again her name is whinehouse

    • Blonde South

Well, her music was pretty popular when it came out a couple of years ago, a lot of people really liked her. I’m just not sure how the fact that you hadn’t heard her music until now makes it any less good.

      • Oh, Well

A lot of stupid drunks and drug addicts liked her music. It was dull and droll. Kudos only from her peers. Enough said.

      • Tom

It always kinda reminded me of the Dixie Chicks. I don’t know why.

      • cami

nice name…..BLONDE SOUTH…i really liked her….GOD BLESS AMY WINEHOUS’S SOUL…..AND FORGIVE HER SINS

    • Nicole

Apparently you missed the years of 2006-2009….

    • SoThere

You can’t tell good music from Muzak, so shut your pie hole.

  • meme

Excuse me but Amy’s who life was about love of DRUGS not her family friends or fans.

    • ‘Lish

Because you knew her personally? Have some respect for the dead.

      • jen

Oh please, she had no respect for herself in life.

      • tom

oh please…like you did know her..she only lived to consume drugs….she had demons all around her and she liked it…one less dumb low class junkee millionare

      • tom

she didnt respect herself or her fans….just look at how she got up on stage…..she didnt deserve the fame….glad she finally solved her problem

      • Moving right along…

@jen and tom: Brutal, but true. And no, she didn’t respect herself or any of the talents/breaks she had been given both by a higher power if you believe in that, or by the recording industry. She was an exceptionally lucky girl who didn’t value anything other than her next binge. And if you don’t believe that—go to YouTube and search for “Amy Winehouse Drunk.”

      • Tom

You would need to ask her father and her management.

      • True Blue

        @ tom:

Here’s to hoping a prick like you gets snuffed out as well.

  • krissy

People fail to understand that addiction is a disease. Whether its what killed her or not, its sucks that she couldn’t over come it . It’s not like she didn’t try to get help.. and I’m sure she didn’t want it to kill her. Shame on the people who dare to speew out the I told you so’s & move on. Music lost a true god given blessed performer. Please let her rest in peace.

    • AC24

In the end, I agree that anybody’s passing is a sad occasion, and she should absolutely Rest in Peace.

That having been said, she definitely thumbed her nose when it came to “getting help”….cripes, her biggest (only?) hit song was her saying “screw it” to the concept of getting help???

..and one last thought….SHAME on whomever was responsible for allowing her to go on stage at that last concert tour…disgraceful decision, likely only focused on making money!

      • Guitarist

Very good point….did ANY of her managers, handlers, etc. care about anything but her making them money? It is time for the legal system to start looking at these creeps too. AW did her own harm, but scavengers are always nearby.

    • Oh, Well

Krissy is a @ss. Addiction is a choice, not a disease. A choice. And her music sucked. Krissy is stupid.

      • True Blue

Well since you’re such an expert, why don’t you explain to us the complexities of drug addiction?

  • Bebe

Why is there so much hate in these comments? She was an addict, but does that make her any less of a person? Have some compassion. She didn’t hurt anyone but herself. Rest in Peace Amy.

    • Pie Thrower

Bebe: I’m sure her family and friends would disagree with the “didn’t hurt anyone but herself” philosphy.

Her actions were stupid and selfish and she does not deserve to be celebrated but rather to be used as an example.

  • negatory

thanks EW! the public has a RIGHT to know about others’ autopsies. US “journalists” may not be hacking phones(yet) but damned if they’re not on important “news” scoops like celebrity autopsies. CNN ran a crawl about Winehouse’s autopsy ad nauseum for two days. at least it provided relief from the relentless pharmaceutical commercials cable news stations run.

  • rebecca

Im not saying it’s good she died, but with everyone praising her as a good person / rolemodel… I can say that atleast now anyone who looked up to her can see that her behavior is not glamorous or cool it’s deadly. I never heard of anything good she ever did, only bad press and a constant state of binging. Perhaps she was a good person, she was talented, but she did not deserve to be a rolemodel to anyone.

    • Nicole

I don’t think anyone considered her a role model ever. Her talent was undeniable, but it was never a secret that her personal life was a disaster.

    • MKL

I can honestly say the only two people I consider my role models are my parents. I never once look up to any stars and I’m glad I did not. Too many issues!!!!

      • Tom

        Which seat can I take?

  • MKL

    OMG! Where’s Whitney Houston??!!

    • Elbyem

Back in rehab. So’s her daughter. So sad…another great talent, also being squandered.

    • Oh, Well

Whitney will be one of the next on the slab. She did have talent – unlike Winehouse, but no more. She did herself in, and it’s just a matter of time until we have to hear the same news over again. No sympathy for addicts/losers.

      • Squishmar

What about the underlying causes that make addicts start to use? She was an unhappy person before she became a junkie and then that becomes part of the reasons for her unhappiness. Regardless of whether or not it was her choice (which I believe it was) it’s obvious that she was a human being in a great deal of pain and that alone is worth some compassion regardless of the cause. Isn’t it?

      • Tom

She was used because she was weak, and an easy target. That’s how the industry works. If you didn’t know that, you are either naive, or too young to know any better.

      • Squishmar

That has nothing to do with my comment at all. I’m talking about the pain she was in that made her start using in the first place. I didn’t say anything about the bloodsuckers who either enabled or didn’t care if she got well (except she might make them more money sober)… I don’t understand why you’re calling me naive. And I’m certainly not young. And I *do* know better. I’m agreeing with your basic tenet that you’ve been saying all over these boards… that she had a choice. I agree with that. But before *and* after her drug use started, she was a person in pain and I think that alone is worth compassion.

  • L

She was a pretty tragic person and it’s very sad that she couldn’t get clean, but she made some damn good music. And for that she will be missed. RIP Amy.

    • Nicole

      Couldn’t agree more

      • Latifah

RIP Amy Winehouse you were a incredible singer also I love your music.

      • Tom

They didn’t want her to get clean. They wanted to use her up until there was nothing left. That’s what commercial music is all about. Don’t kid yourselves. I’m not saying that drugs are cool, but they knew what they were getting into with her, and they took advantage of the situation. It’s just business to them.

      • Squishmar

You’re the one who’s naive if you believe they were making money from the constant cancellations. Yes, keep her under your thumb and controllable… but when it spirals as out of control as it did… there’s no money to be made there. Dozens of cancelled performances and tours and *not able to make a follow-up album*! How did that make them any money at all? She used herself up… “they” would have liked to have squeezed a whole lot more from her… and at 27, they had every right to expect they could.

      • Squishmar

Basically, there comes a time when your hot commodity becomes a liability and there is no revenue coming in, and then it behooves them to get her sober enough to generate more… she went beyond that a long time ago by her own hand and there was nothing to be gained from her in the state she was in (well, maybe the lawyers from all the contractual obligations she broke) but her costs were far outpacing her income.
