There’s already a lot of Oscar buzz for the creators and stars of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of best-selling novel The Help. And now you can add another possible nomination to the list: A Best Original Song nod for Mary J. Blige‘s single “The Living Proof,” penned for the movie’s soundtrack.

Blige, fresh off a triumphant performance at the Essence Festival in New Orleans over the weekend, is in full clutch-your-heart-and-brace-yourself-on-the-piano mode here, eschewing any sort of R&B trickery in favor of a belt-heavy torch song about overcoming the odds.

Give it a listen after the jump (her vocals kick in about a minute in, in case you’re impatient). READ FULL STORY »

After being forced to postpone her North American tour due to laryngitis, Adele has been given the okay to blow her English pipes and hit the stage.

Almost exactly a month ago, she expressed her frustration about having to give her voice a rest. But E! News reports that she’ll resume her U.S. dates as of August 8 (for the full list of dates, click here).

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 Adele spoke about her ailment: “It’s basically a hole in your vocal chord, but I sang through it, so that’s why it popped,” she said. “But I’m better now. It’s fine. I got the all-clear.”

Glad she’ll be back soon? Let us know.

Kanye West and Jay-Z reveal album details, kingly cover art for collab 'Watch the Throne'

kanye-west

Kanye West hasn’t said anything on his Twitter page in a while—14 weeks, to be exact.

But he broke his silence yesterday to post a picture–one fans have been waiting for since last fall: the album cover for Watch the Throne, his much-anticipated collaboration with rhyme king Jay-Z. The gold embroidered image looks like a dinner plate for royalty and was designed by Riccardo Tisci, the creative director of Givenchy.

West also provided a link to pre-order the album (Throne will be available in both a ten-track version and one with four bonus cuts). Though their reps have not confirmed an official release date, it appears that preordered albums will ship Tuesday Aug. 2, meaning we’re less than a month away from hearing what possibly could be the best tag-team collab effort in rap history.

The two have been relatively quiet about the project since they dropped the single “H.A.M.,” back in January. Excited knowing it’s on the way? What do you expect from it? Let us know.

Lady Gaga will be a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance. A rep for the Fox show confirmed to EW that the pop diva will be featured later this season. Gaga will “give great advice on how to handle yourself, how to be creative with what you do, and how to be a fabulous performer,” producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe told Yahoo recently. “Her help is going to be invaluable.”

Gaga also guest judged on American Idol last season, coaching future winner Scotty McCreery in her rather phallic heels. The wild star certainly is known to cut a rug in her videos and is schooled often by renowned choreographer Laurieann Gibson.

Countess Luann of NYC 'Housewives' releases new single: Hear it and weep

Sometimes one brash atrocity follows closely on the heels of another.

But Countess LuAnn of the NYC Real Housewives was kind enough to wait more than a year before unleashing her second single, “Chic, C’est La Vie,” on the world.

This comatose club thumper is an ode to the “money power and romance” that fill LuAnn de Lesseps’ waking hours. “Life is but a dream/When every day you’re living is featured on TV,” she asserts, but this music video itself indicates that perhaps her musical moments are best left undocumented by camera, tape recorder, or human ear. Beyonce brings her new album to the masses: Watch her behind the scenes and performing to a packed Central Park here

The high of selling millions of albums, headlining a massive tour, and basically being a worldwide ambassador of girl power requires a major force to come down from. Last year, it took an ocean’s waves to wash away Beyoncé’s larger-than-life alter ego, Sasha Fierce.

“The ocean makes me feel really small,” she says at the top of her MTV special Beyoncé: Year of 4–which aired last night. “It makes me put my whole life in to perspective. I’m this little piece of this huge earth. It humbles you and it grounds you.”

Like she says in the Target ad for her new album, she spent 2010 off the stage and in the audience. In Year of 4, we get to see some of the other stuff she did during her time away from the spotlight.

Most folks spend their vacations at beach houses to chill. Not this chick. Beyoncé does stuff like slide down the Great Wall of China and scuba dive in the Red Sea.

Catch footage of that as well as clips of her creating 4, picking the album’s cuts alongside hubby Jay-Z, and learning the bonkers choreography for its lead single “Run the World (Girls)” here:
