After months of skeptics calling for Lady Gaga to brave an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, this morning she did just that.

The 90-minute conversation was by far the most detailed interview she’s ever granted, sharing her thoughts on money, fame, the L.A. lifestyle, and her history of drug use. Of course, Stern was in his usual irreverent form, asking trademark questions about Gaga’s sexual history (which we can’t print here, though you can listen to the entire interview below).

But much of it revealed less prurient details, like the fact that the chorus for “Born This Way” came to her in the shower, and that she often vocalizes melodies that come to her into her BlackBerry; she even proceeded to play some raw, early cell-phone versions incarnations of “Judas” and “Highway Unicorn (Road to Love).”

Stern didn’t hide the fact that he was chagrined it took so long for her to make an appearance on his show—“I felt I was more important than The Gayle King Show”—and that he’d received some threatening Little Monster-penned missives warning him to go easy on Her Ladyship. But by the end he seemed easily won over to the Cult of Gaga and declared her soaring acoustic rendition of “The Edge of Glory” to be “one of the best performances we’ve ever had on the show.”

Listen to the interview after the break and read some highlights we’ve transcribed below: READ FULL STORY »

The wait is over!

The question over how exactly viral sensation Rebecca Black would follow-up her unexpected success with “Friday” has come to an end—the 14-year-old YouTube star just dropped the video for her new single, “My Moment.” And boy, oh boy, it’s a doozy.

Just like “Friday,” it’s main theme is repetition, repetition, repetition: READ FULL STORY »

Lady Gaga and Bette Midler's mermaid-wheelchair beef: Over before it began?

Lady Gaga has had some well-documented ups and downs since the release of Born This Way, and for every victory (one million sold!) there seems to be a half dozen slights (Rihanna is now more popular than Gaga on Facebook).

Gaga’s latest opponent? None other than Bette Midler, who saw her Ladyship take the stage in Australia in a wheelchair while dressed like a mermaid and thought it looked awfully familiar.

It turns out Midler crafted just such a character way back in the ’80s, and she named her Delores DeLago (who sounds less like a handicapped fish-woman and more like a broadly drawn John Leguizamo character, but we’ll let that slide for now).

To drive her point home, Midler took to Twitter to let Ms. Gaga know that she felt slighted: READ FULL STORY »

Paramore get a little crazy for 'Monster' video: Watch it here

If you’re one of the many thousands who paid an exorbitant amount of money to watch Shia LaBoeuf stare at digital robots for nearly three hours in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, then you’ve probably heard Paramore’s “Monster” played over the credits (that’s provided that your sensory apparatus wasn’t completely fried and your organ systems weren’t going into shutdown).

It’s a pretty swell tune, though it doesn’t have a whole lot to do with Optimus Prime’s giant Chicago-killing sword or that silly space bridge that Leonard Nimoy wants to build. (If you don’t understand any of that, it means you haven’t seen Dark of the Moon and remain tethered to this realm of reality.)

Now the band—currently a three-piece following the departure of brothers Josh and Zac Farro—have pulled back the curtain on their own cinematic accompaniment for “Monster” in the form of a good old-fashioned music video.

It features an abandoned hospital, some cool effects, and Hayley Williams’ extra-electric hair, and it’s yours for the viewing here: READ FULL STORY »

In addition, Rule was sentenced in New York City to two years prison time last month after pleading guilty to attempted criminal weapon possession charges from 2007. He reportedly will serve the sentences together.

Red Hot Chili Peppers return with new single 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie': Hear it here

RHCP

The last time the Red Hot Chili Peppers released a debut single from a forthcoming album, Barack Obama was still a freshman senator, Rebecca Black was only nine years old, and the music world was irrationally obsessed with Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day.”

Today Obama is president, Black is a pop star, and people remember Susan Powter better than they remember Daniel. And in the middle of it all, the Red Hot Chili Peppers remain steadfast. Sure, they have a new guitarist (longtime collaborator Josh Klinghoffer, replacing the once-again-departed John Frusciante), but if their new single “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” (the first track from their end-of-summer album I’m With You) is any indication, things are still cool in Pepperland.

Give the new track a listen here:

Kanye West makes surprise cameo with Q-Tip at hip-hop festival in Brooklyn: Watch the video here

When New York rhymer Q-Tip and his A Tribe Called Quest dropped their classic hip-hop set Midnight Marauders in 1993, Kanye West–an avid fan of the trio–was 19.

So you can imagine the joy he felt last Saturday when his teen idol brought him, now a full-on star himself, up on stage as a surprise guest at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival to perform Marauders‘ standout single “Award Tour.”

A Chicago native, West looked right at home on the outdoor NY stage. In his retro chic tank top and snapback cap, Kanye didn’t just rock with Tip, but also hopped off the stage and into the crowd to perform the title track from his last album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Check out the clips after the jump.

The members of Cheap Trick escaped serious injury, but a member of their entourage was hospitalized after the stage at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest collapsed Sunday night.

Marc Messier, a spokesman for Ottawa Fire Services, told the Associated Press that a 49-year-old man was in serious condition with abdominal, pelvic and leg injuries. Another had a spinal injury and a third person experienced chest pains. At least eight other people were treated at the scene for minor issues including twisted ankles and anxiety.

According to a statement on the band’s website: “Severe weather hit the stage as Cheap Trick was performing at the Ottawa Bluesfest tonight. The stage blew down and collapsed. Everyone is shaken up but band and crew are all fine. Cheap Trick hopes that everyone who attended the show is also ok. Robin says ‘Fortunately the band and crew are all lucky to be alive and we’ll see you down the road. And all the best to our truck driver Sandy.’ “

The band’s manager, Dave Frey, later told CNN that “one of our drivers will spend the night in the hospital, and though we’re not sure how, Cheap Trick are grateful and happy to say that everyone, including all the concert goers, are okay.” Watch a fan-recorded clip of the collapse below. Paul McCartney rocks Yankee Stadium with epic concert, duets with Billy Joel: On the scene

“When I’m Sixty-Four” was conspicuously absent from Paul McCartney’s set list during his two concerts at Yankee Stadium over the weekend. No wonder. At 69, rock & roll’s most easygoing revolutionary is jamming harder than ever. EW was on the scene at the Saturday show, a nearly 40-song set which also featured some Empire State musical muscle in the form of a certain Bronx-born piano man.

McCartney’s nearly two-hour and 45-minute extravaganza spanned his output from the past 50 years. Chronological hodgepodge was clearly his goal from the outset, opening with late Beatles psychedelic tripper “Magical Mystery Tour,” followed by Wings shout-anthem “Jet,” and then early Beatles Dorian-scaled “All My Loving.” READ FULL STORY »

On Monday, Beyoncé’s father and former manager Matthew Knowles filed documents in a Texas court revealing that he was dismissed as his daughter’s manager after an audit by concert mega-promoter Live Nation showed that he had allegedly stolen funds from her. Now, Knowles has given an interview to the Associated Press about the dust-up and the status of his relationship with his daughter Beyoncé.

Knowles began with a denial of any wrongdoing. “We absolutely have not taken any money from Beyoncé, and all dollars will be accounted for,” he told the AP on Thursday afternoon. “In no way have we stole money. Again, this about the people who have made these claims — they have to come into the light.”  READ FULL STORY »
