Collaborating on fun covers is nothing new for country super-duo Sugarland: Earlier this year, the pair did a delightful version of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” with tourmates Little Big Town.
And just recently, they struck again, this time taking on Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ ’80s classic “Come On Eileen” with fellow touring singer Sara Bareilles while at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
How’d “Eileen” turn out with a country twist? Well, let’s just say that few things are as bouyantly fun as what transpired between Sugarland and Sara. I especially love it at about 2:15, when Jennifer and Sara start the slow breakdown of the song. Watch the video here:
Did you enjoy it as much as I did? What else would you like to see Sugarland cover?

Jennifer sure knows how to put on a show
Okay, that was really fun to watch. Also, it’s nice to see people that are singing live that are actually on key. Unfortunatly that seems to be an anomaly these days.
That was AMAZING! I got goosebumps and cried through it to be honest – Jennifer Nettles was one of my husband’s favorite singers of all time and he died last December. I think he’s smiling down, what a great video and rendition, he would’ve loved it!
that was pretty good but the best cover of this song is still save ferris’
oh yes! i love that cover! save ferris’ lead singer really belts it out.
Love Sara Bareilles! Great duet, who would have thought!
What a fun performance, I enjoyed watching that.
But how did they learn those jarbled obtuse lyrics? Are they printed somewhere? haahaa.
Saw them do this a couple weeks ago on tour. It was a really fun end to a really fun show. Sugarland also threw in bits from Sweet Caroline, Baby One More Time, and 9 to 5 during the show. They really should release Baby One More Time as a single so everyone can hear how good the song can be when a real singer with a real voice takes it on.
Great songs always tolerate reinterpretation well. I’d bet Sugarland would do all of these songs justice (and then some).
That was fun to watch, great singing, and wonderful cover of a well known ’80′s song. They did an awesome job.
10 stars,outstanding.jennifer wow
I LOVED their cover of “Life in a Northern Town”!!
Someone seems to be very convinced that she’s just a big ball of adorable wacky. But that’s the vibe I’ve always gotten from Sugarland — just constant mugging that would have made silent film comedians say “whoa, hey, dial it down a notch there.”
Is that supposed to be a compliment or an observation?
This was an excellent cover of a 80′s song….Loved it alot.
I think they were trying to strip down the ’80s one-hit wonder feel of the original and give the song a new country lilt. Interesting how they did it. And Sugarland’s album is surprisingly ’80s sounding, so they wanted to keep that tangent going.
OK, i don’t even have to listen to this to know it’s probably CRAP.
Interesting post and view, hope to hear more what the future holds THANKS Great post. Probably saved thousands of hours between everybody here.
