With necromancers gaining control over vampires, mediums channeling dead uncles, and shape-shifters still on the prowl, the fourth season of HBO’s True Blood has been pretty action-packed.

The show’s music, while always excellent, has been especially tight this year, delivering great covers like Nick Cave and Neko Case’s “She’s Not There,” Karen Elson’s take on “Season of the Witch,” and Nick Lowe’s “Cold Grey Light of Dawn” (which closed out the most recent episode of the show).

All of those tracks (in addition to 15 more) are on the forthcoming compilation True Blood – Music From the HBO Series – Volume 3.

That album, which hits stores on September 6, also features two versions of the excellent theme song “Bad Things.” The first is the version by Jace Everett that scores television’s best opening credits sequence, and the second (which will be available on the album’s Digital Deluxe version) is a delightfully scuzzy re-imagination of the song care of San Francisco rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Check out the BRMC version (exclusively streaming here on the Music Mix) and the full track listing for the soundtrack after the jump.

Can’t wait the last soundtrack was very good not typical mainstream tunes but solid songs for crusing. Even better because the music video in my head has all the chracters from the show .. Eric and Alicide topless .. rewind!

  • Lauri

Where is “I Wish I Was The Moon” by Neko Case? My favorite song from the show this season and they leave it off the soundtrack? wth?

    • Rita

@Lauri, I was wondering the very same thing. What a great song..

    • Amy Klima

Agree, agree, would never buy it without “I Wish I Was the Moon”

    • StemCellFajita

I second that. Or fourth it. Or whatever, the point is “Moon” was the best song on the show this year.

Jesus, the sound quality is terrible. How on earth did they manage to screw up that much on compressing the song?

    • Lars

Pfft! You’re clearly an OLD person. Today’s youth demand brickwalled music! Dynamic range in music is waaaayyy too confusing to listen to: one second the music is quiet, the next it’s suddenly louder – listening to it makes me think there’s something wrong with my stereo.
With supercompressed music, I don’t have to worry about the volume of my music, because I know every sound will be at the exact same volume. LOUDER is ALWAYS BETTER!!!!

i have a doubt. Is this a crap or trash?

    • rico

      Neither wanker.

I love True Blood, I love “Bad Things”, I love BRMC. That being said, this cover is a solid miss. Hate it… with a passion. It’s like they squeezed every ounce of life, every, and soul out of a really great song.

I wish they would have included themusic that they played during Sookie and Eric’s first kiss. It was very dramatic and beautiful

  • Flip

Why are there so many versions of “She’s Not There”?

  • rico

BRMC nails this cover. The sound quality is better now than the version posted earlier today.

  • Fabalayero

The BRMC cover is TERRIBLE!!!! I absolutely despise it!

  • Christy

love everything about this song AFTER the bass starts. that beginning harmony needs to be cut out. This is a darker, sexier version of the song. It would be perfect if they cut the beginning and start the song when the bass kicks in.

I love everything BRMC touches and this cover is no exception. Better than the original (but I’m a little biased).

  • Meerna

Love it – fantastic cover version. BRMC are a truly great band.

  • jane

They could use someday Cat Power’s cover of “Werewolf”, beautiful song to Alcide’s glory! hehe

    • ME

I’d like them to use Florence’s Howl with Alcide. Heck, I’d like to use Alcide.

  • Linda

Where is the music that played when Sookie and Eric kissed? I would love to have it.

  • Andrew Herring

“Spellbound” was an amazing touch to the recent episode!!! I am addicted to this song now, it feels like I’m listening to something from the 80s! Love it!
