Kenny Chesney at the New Meadowlands: Summer's best entrance?

Summer is coming to a close, and so is Kenny Chesney’s Goin’ Coastal tour, which wraps Aug. 28.

On Saturday night, Chesney played New Jersey’s New Meadowlands Stadium — home to the New York Giants and New York Jets — with Zac Brown Band, Billy Currington, and Uncle Kracker in a show billed as the biggest single ticketed country event in the New York/New Jersey area since 1983.

Chesney told the crowd it was a date he’d been looking forward to since the tour began in March, and a night so huge for him that he made sure his mother was in attendance. (He invited her onstage to wave to the crowd, estimated at 55,000.)

When I think of Summer 2011, I will always remember the sight of Chesney making his entrance to “Live a Little,” floating high above the crowd, standing in their floor seats, for the entire length of the song in the rain. It was beautiful — seeing the dark stadium in the background with camera flashes that looked like stars. (Watch a fan-shot video after the jump.)

For me, this was the best concert entrance of the summer; it announced that country music could fill the Meadowlands, in more ways than one. (And that’s something anyone who saw the stadium erupt when ZBB closed its set moving from “Free”/”Into the Mystic” to “America the Beautiful”/”Chicken Fried” already knew.)

What’s the best concert entrance you’ve seen this summer? And ever?

Tons of fun and Kenny puts on a great show. BUT, this isn’t a new entrance for him so why all the hype? He made this entrance probably 7 years ago… (and at this point in his career he sure depends on the audience to sing a lot of his songs for him instead of along with him)

    • jessica

Yeah this entertance is not new at all, I’ve seen him do many times before. so i don’t understand why all the hype for this concert.

Love Kenny Chesney, but the sound was AWFUL at the Meadowlands. I couldn’t understand the opening acts at all, and only after I moved to another section (and stood for hours) was I able to hear KC. I hope to see him again in a better venue.

    • Dan

You are not the only one to say the sound was horrible on this tour. I saw him in philly and I thought every single act was great performance wise, but the sound quality was HORRIBLE!. It was the worst sounding Kenny concert I have seen to date. I’m can’t believe they can’t figure it out, if it sounded good last time he was in philly, then why not this year. People all around us couldn’t understand the lyrics, but I knew every song, but still couldn’t hear the vocals clearly. I said something on his FB page and it was deleted, so they know they have a problem.

      • Henry

I agree 100% I even commented to my wife during the show that I would never go back to another concert at the Meadowlands because of how bad the sound was at this show

    • dianne

you are right .the sound was the nosebleed seats….In 35 years of concert going I have never been so disappointed by the sound :(. The tons of drunks..81/2 hours of boozing before Kenny was not a good sense up in the 3rdfrom the top row!! I’ll never sit in the cheap seats again..the stress isn’t worth it..HE LOOKED GOOD !! Couldn’t hear him..heard the drunks singing around me!! OH I party-ed..but I could stand…

Saw Kenny twice this summer. Awesome! My favorite concert was of course a Kenny concert in Vegas last year when he wasn’t touring. 4 1/2 hours of nonstop KC in the front row!!!

    • Dale S.

Saw Kenny @ The Joint in Vegas on may 15, 2010 and the 4 1/2 hour show was unreal! I also saw him @ Cheyenne Frontier Days w/ Kracker back 5 years ago and that was good as well, but the Vegas show was the best ever! It was a lot of Kenny followed by more Kenny…….wow! Great time!!

  • EMC711

Was at the concert Saturday night and it was great. I can’t believe I missed that entrance because I had ducked inside to get out of the rain for a little while.

  • zeke

I always heard he puts on a great show and a good guy as well.

  • Ashley

Kenny was good, but Zac Brown Band was absolutely amazing!! I liked ZBB before I saw the concert, now I am in love! America The Beautiful/Chicken Fried was unbelievable….can’t wait to see them again!!

  • Kate

Same entrance as Tampa where I saw the beginning of the Tour. Also saw the show in Chicago this year and the sound was TERRIble there too!!! Tampa was poor for the first few songs but they worked it out. ZBB is awesome!

Best ever AC/DC Back in Black Tour A giant 2000lbs Bell lowers from the ceiling of “The Forum” in Los Angeles in front of the curtain. Dusted in a green light as Angus’ guitar starts playing the opening riff. The place was electric and by the time the curtain opened it was on!! the night was AWESOME
