'Idol' alum Brooke White releases debut single as Jack and White, 'Gemini': Hear it here! -- EXCLUSIVE

Over two years after the release of her post-American Idol record, High Hopes and Heartbreak, sunny Season 7 American Idol alum Brooke White is back, but no longer as a solo artist.

White now sings alongside Jack Matranga in a duo they’ve named Jack and White, which formed earlier this year after the two met for a songwriting session for White’s own album. “Everything we started writing started sounding like its own thing,” White explains to EW. “This wasn’t a Brooke White record, this was a collaboration.” And so, the duo was born.

A few months later, Jack and White are set to unveil their debut EP, Gemini, on August 30. The disc, currently available for pre-order on iTunes, has a “modern folk-pop” sound according to White. The singer, in true songwriter fashion, also describes her duo’s sound with an image: “Horseback riding down the Pacific coast—that’s what it is!”

EW has the exclusive stream of the pair’s debut single, “Gemini,” a luminous track that, as the lyrics state, walks “a fine line between darkness and sunshine.” Check it out below:

What do you think of Jack and White’s new song? Will you be checking out their album?

Wasn’t she the annoying blonde who had to start over a song at one point during Idol?

  • Perkle

It was okay. Would be interested in hearing more. I always liked her.

  • ali427

Love it! So excited to hear more from Brooke White; she’s one of my favorite Idols.

  • Jeff

Jack and White, really? Jack White should sue…

    • Elizabeth

Can’t sue – they’re using their names. I think it’s a play on Black and White.

    • Moira

That was my first thought! Although, I highly doubt this is even a blip on Jack White’s radar–not meaning to “diss” Brooke White, I have no opinion of her.

  • jeremy

I can’t see her making a living off of this.

    • Matt

She already does make a living off this.

  • mary

    That dude needs a haircut.

  • John Mellencamp

You can’t beat Jack & Diane.
Two American kids doin’ best they can.

    • Jack and Coke

      I beg to differ.

      • Artie Lang

Better listen to Mellencamp on that one.

      • Jack and Coke

        lol touche’

  • Julie

While I am happy to see an article on Jack and White here, I am still astounded at EW bloggers’ inability to figure out the difference between “its” and “it’s.” Didn’t you people go to school?

    • Saracen Riggins

The possesive form of “it” is “its”. The contraction form of “it is” is “it’s”. EW is correct.

      • Mike

The comment was probably relevant when it was posted. The thing about EW is, they post their posts then proofread AFTERWARDS.

    • Luke Johnson

Julie-simple mistake, get over it. Let a writer be judged by the creativity of their content first.

  • Brad

I love it! Keep it coming!

  • SaraJeanQueen

Ew, please go away Brooke White. You suck.

    • Luke Johnson

If you want them to go away then why do you keep reading their articles?

  • DIM

Love it Brooke, as always you are the best!

  • Tricia N.

The songwriting, instrumentalists, and vocals all seem to me that this is a match made in heaven for both Jack Matranga and Brooke White. Great pairing.

  • Fred

a silly title to the song…..nice try though

  • christina

I hope my cousin and Brooke make it BIG…so surprised by “haters”….maybe they do not have dreams!

    • Cacheous

I hope my cousin and Jack make it big. ;)

  • Doris

Brooke is one of my favorite idols. Have already pre-odered and look forward to more.
