George Michael announces break-up with Kenny Goss during emotional performance

George Michael is experiencing a different kind of “Freedom.” On Monday, the singer took the stage at Prague State Opera, where he promptly announced he had broken up with his longtime partner, Kenny Goss. In fact, they had split long ago — Michael announced that he and Goss had not been together in over two years. “My battles with substances are well-documented and my partner went through similar problems with drink,” he told the crowd before singing “Where I Hope You Are.” “The truth is my love life has been a lot more turbulent than I have let on. This is probably the first break-up song I’ve written.”

The performance was Michael’s first on his “Symphonica” tour. He has not toured since serving jail time last year for driving under the influence. During the show, he also tipped his hat to another singer who struggled with substance abuse — Michael nearly teared up singing a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Love is a Losing Game.”

That’s unfortunate but – while I enjoy George’s music and probably always will – the lack of respect he showed to his partner over the years in such a public way, made this fairly inevitable. I’m sure there was more going on behind closed doors on both sides, but the surprise here is not that it happened, but that it lasted as long as it did. Hopefully, both have learned and will take those lessons forward in life.

Mike, I get what you’re saying, but the public have no idea what kind of arrangement they had in their relationship. They might have had an open marriage – it’s more common than you’d think. The small issue I have with this story is why he told the crowd his ex-partner had an issue with substances.

      • Mike

Rob – just from what we’ve seen, I suspect they did have an open relationship. What I question is whether they had an open PUBLIC relationship. It’s one thing to have the arrangement between the two – it’s another when it’s out in the open for all to see because one of them keeps getting caught with his pants down. I can only imagine if they had an open relationship, it was probably supposed to be discreet. Then again, I just said ‘imagine’…

      • Bebe

Yeah, there was no reason for him to mention that his partner had alcohol problems. That was pretty beyotchy of him to bring up. Especially at a concert, presumably in front of thousands of people.

      • jeremy

There’s no such thing as an “open marriage/relationship. It’s just plain retartded to say you’re in a relationship with somebody and then agree to see other people. You’re just looking for trouble.

I’m not saying this applies to all, but the gay guys that I know are very promiscuous. I know one guy that cruises on a daily bases. I’m still trying to figure out why he does this given the fact that AIDs is still out there.

      • Just another…

dipsh!t posting about something they know nothing about (Mary).

      • Please ban the following words

that have no place in reporting: nearly, almost, could, maybe, and might. Reporting that George Michael “nearly teared up” is exactly the same as reporting George Michael did not tear up. He either DID, or he DID NOT. I realize that news has to come from somewhere—but real journalists don’t try to squeeze it from turnips.

and yet… you find him fascinating enough to not only read about but also post about.
what a boring life you lead. he, for all his issues (which could be far less than yours for all we know) is the world’s most talented vocalist live in concert. that’s why he’s sold out everywhere for years!

      • Yeman

Oh dale, won’t you PLEASE give capitalization a chance??!?!!

    • Val

        George Michael’s latest release!

  • amy

I’ve always enjoyed George Michael’s music, but, don’t really understand why he felt the need to announce something so personal at a concert. I think celebrities should keep their private life private! Glad to hear that he’s cleaned up his life though.

    • ML

I think part of the reason is that he was singing a song inspired by those events in his life. I think recognizing one’s shortcomings are a great lesson for others.

    • ‘Lish

Um.. What do you think these singers/musicians sing about? Other peoples’ personal lives?

      • amy

OMG! I didn’ mean it like that! I just don’t think the public needs to know everytime a celebrity breaks up with a girlfriend or boyfriend!!!

      • @amy

He mentioned it two years after the fact; it’s not like he released a public statement as they were divvying up the furniture!

      • amy

Why’d he have to mention it at all. It’s nobody’s D@MN business!!!

      • amy

and no, he didn’t just mention it! He announced it!!! Go argue with some one else! I’m done!!!!

  • Michael

So sad, I thought he could find real happiness from being gay and he didn’t. I hope he gets back on track with something loving in his life.

    • Wha’ever

…? What does his break-up has to do with being gay? Straight people don’t break up ?

      • Wha’ever

“What does his break up HAVE to do”… darn it…

  • CarlyY

I wish he’d break up with that nasty haircut he’s been sporting since the early 90’s.

  • 1st cav scout

He should go back to jail…im sure he had lots of fun in there with all those big black boys!

    • amy

1st cav scout: do u think about that often? lol

    • Patrick

And why are the people he should have “fun” with in jail black? Does it matter whether the people in jail are black or white? Racist much?

      • Reverse Racism Twits Crack Me Up

I hate to butt in, so to speak, however it is well known that black adult males do have “big boys” and I believe that is what the person was referring to.

Are you REVERSE RACIST MUCH poor little you?

People like you are WORSE than the actual racists themselves! You reverse racists pick, point and choose your next “cause”

What a sham! Just let people be WHO THEY ARE and stop mentioning the word racist, when in fact, you haven’t a clue what a racist is!

Too touchy about your skin tone much?
Blame it on your momma, don’t just go out and look for it you stupid reverse racist twit

      • MultiPass

There is no such thing as Reverse Racism, you idiot. Racism merely means you are judging someone based on their race, pure and simple. The race of the person who is doing the judging (ie being racist) does not matter. In fact, by implication the entire IDEA of so-called “reverse racism” is inherently racist itself. Irony much?

preach it! anyone who doesn’t know of George’s amazing music is either in a monastery (and I’ve been in one and they had mature popular music in the media library!), under 16, or been in a vegatative state!

  • Un Natural = Man on Man

Some unknown person named George broke up with his longtime poopshooter, Kenny. Film at 11.

Someone ought to write a gay music ballad for these two and send it to “Bob and Tom” and “Johnboy Billy”

    LMFAO!@ “George and Kenny”

    • MultiPass

Men who protest too much – ie YOU – are the easiest dudes for us gay boys to get into bed. You are practically crying out to be nailed. It’s easy to spot.
