Barbra Streisand’s records will never be topped!
And yes indeed this album is wonderful – one of her best albums in her extensive catalog.
I prefer listening to Barbra Streisand almost all day and every day! This woman has variety – everything from dance hits to jazz, motown soul, folk songs, classical, bossa nova, and of course, broadway! She is in my opinion a once in a lifetime talent. No one, not even these so called “stars” today can do and be what Miss Streisand is.
She is THE Legend! #1 always.
If only she would promote her work these days – I suspect if she had done at least one proper interview (not that 10 minute Sunday morning thing) she woulda had a #1 with this too. But I kinda get it as well… she loves the work, not so much the promotion or validation of it! What a classy lady!!!! LOVE HER!!!!!!!

” I guess it helps having talent!:
    That is hilarious lol

Surely you’ve heard of the most successful female artist of all time…Madonna. She’s taken down Elvis and The Beatles and well, anyone else who’s ever recorded music for the most Hot 100 hits, surely she can topple this one as well.

    • fancypants

Mariah has the most #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 (with 18 #1s), so your comment is incorrect. Moreover your comment isn’t even relevant to the content of this article.

    Too bad Madonna can’t sing.

    • Brett

      She can too. Na-Ne-Na-Ne-boo-boo.

    • Miguel

@ Basic-Never once Madonna said she has a great voice. Madonna is NOT about who has the greatest voice in music. I think Adele has a better voice than Barbra.

  • MM

Isn’t the name of her second album still wrong in the article? Dyslexic?

Barbra’s six decade record is amazing and shows what true talent brings!! In terms of who could equal this record eventually, the following artists have potential:
(This is NOT saying any of them have equal vocal talent to Barbra just a realistic possibility to come close market-wise)

Cher (who has new album out this fall)

Madonna (who’s last 4 albums all debuted at #1 even as she’s
approaching her 50′s…she could have top 5′s for a long while)

Celine (who is close to Babs in having the type of voice that takes life-long fans with them for decades and succceeds despite never being “hot” market -wise

Mariah ( who’s albums always have strong entries even towards her 40′s and if she were to move towards a more mature sound could still take her fanswith her as it evolves into more sophisticated sound)

Beyonce ( like Mariah has the raw talent vocally to change genres like Babs over time as she mature along with her massive fanbase)

    • Zee

Beyonce, massive fanbase notwithstanding, is an awful vocalist. Mariah started off tremendously in the 90s until skankdom invaded the singing.

      • fancypants

Like her or not, Beyonce is a great vocalist. Objective music journalists have written about this and have noted that she is a great, live performer.

  • Brett

I didn’t even know she had a new CD out. Thanks for letting me know! Can’t wait to buy it! Barbra Streisand rocks! And her son is such a hotty!

  • Clete

Real talent endures, crosses generations and appeals to fans of different ages. Streisand has done that and done it for years. When the Lady Gaga’s and Madonna’s are gone and forgotten, when their CD’s are gathering dust in some forgotton attic, people like me will still be listening to Barbra.

    • fancypants

That’s a good point. Unlike those 2 you mentioned Streisand has never had to resort to cheapening herself with desperate shock tactics or a derivative oversexed image. Her voice alone suffices (not to mention her success in film). One can see Streisand’s music lasting for many decades to come….and I say this as someone who isn’t even a Streisand fan. However, I can appreciate her talent.

  • Rob

Just think….Barbra in the musical Gypsy, a new Duets Album, the film, Guilt Trip, with Seth Rogen, and a possible tour!! Rejoice Streisand fans!

  • bill

Her new album is excellent. Her talent continues to amaze and remain fresh and alive. Go Barbra!

  • PN

She knows how to make good songs and albums. That’s why her albums debut in the top 10 their first weeks. It’s a very competitive field right now and that might be why she didn’t debut at No.1 this time. But No. 4 is a strong start!

Regardless of whether or not anyone ever matches or surpasses this milestone the real story here is that she is still relavant. In a time when it seems everyone and their mother is famous for absolutely no reason what so ever, Barbra rises through a very crowded field of celebutantes and proves talent is still the real reason anyone deserves our attention.

As for the colletion the songs are great. How nice to hear quality music and lyrics, great musicians and
    magnificient singer all working together.

Barbra continues in the long line fo truely great performers like Frank, Tony, Judy, Ella, Sarah.
For them and Cher it was always about the music not about the commercialization of the music. That she is an extraordinary singer is a given. That music is only one of many areas where this woman has succeeded is another story.

What is this “Broadway belter” crap? Streisand hasn’t been on Broadway since 1966. The vast majority of her albums and hit singles have been pop oriented. She did have two number one albums of Broadway material, but she had several others that had nothing to do with Broadway. Please do not lump her in with Liza MInnelli or Ethel Merman. Streisand is a pop singer, period.

I do agree with all the ideas you’ve presented on your post. They’re very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for novices. May just you please extend them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
