Save the Children works all over the world to combat hunger, sickness and abuse among the world’s underprivileged children, and starting today they are launching a massive outreach program to aid East Africa—and dozens of the biggest music acts in the world have pledged to drum up support for the program on their Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.

Among the names: Lady Gaga, U2, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Madonna, and Beyoncé. (If you see a star send out a message with the hash tag #beafriend, that’s them throwing their support behind STC.)

The name of the social media campaign is I’m Gonna Be Your Friend, which takes its title from a lyric in Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1973 song “High Tide or Low Tide,” and their goal is to get in front of hundreds of millions eyes to encourage people to donate to Save the Children and help the million suffering children in Somalia and the rest of East Africa.

The proceeds from download sales of “High Tide or Low Tide” will go directly to Save the Children, and filmmaker Kevin MacDonald (director of The Last Kind of Scotland and the forthcoming Bob Marley documentary Marley) has put together a video that features footage from Somalia with “Tide” laid over it, which you can watch here:

On the scene at Lollapalooza, day three: Foo Fighters, the Cars, and wild weather.

According to old lore, the traditional gift for a 20th anniversary is china. According to Mother Nature, it is apparently giant, monsooning sheets of rain.

Major precipitation made an unannounced headlining appearance on 20-year-old Lolla’s third and final evening, opening up the Chicago skies for an hour-long all-stages, all-ages showing of gumball-sized raindrops, thunder and (yay, unlimited pyro budget!) lightning.

And like any good mainstage performer, Ms. Nature brought an encore—turning good chunks of fest-closing sets by Cage the Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and DeadMau5 into a cross between the “November Rain” wedding-party-downpour scene and a lawless, topless WWE mud pit.

See below, live and supremely Tide-resistant from the Monkeys’ set:

Missy Elliott remixes Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)': Listen here

Yes, we know that Katy Perry really wants to beat Michael Jackson’s record for the most No. 1 hits from the same album, and now she might be getting the boost she needs from Missy Elliott, who just remixed Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”

This is especially exciting for supadupafans who’ve been following Elliott, since the rapper has been largely M.I.A. for the past few years.

She released a greatest hits collection in 2006 and has been working on a new album Respect M.E., but her last proper full-length was 2005′s The Cookbook.

In June, Elliott revealed that a long battle with Graves disease, an incurable disorder that affects the thyroid, had kept her out of the studio. “I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad,” she told Vibe. “I couldn’t even use a pen.”

But, wow, does she use that pen on the remix, which finds her working a stripper pole, getting so tipsy she loses her clothes, and waking up the next day to a “hella good morn!” from the guy in her bed. Listen to the full glory of her weekend after the jump:

Whoops! Kelly Rowland accidentally unleashes her breasts during New Jersey concert

Kelly-Rowland-club

On Friday, Nicki Minaj turned some heads when her left nipple freed itself from the confines of her outfit  and said “Hello!” to a national television audience during a performance on Good Morning America.

While Kelly Rowland couldn’t technically have gone bigger (that’s just genetics), she certainly did go harder. During a peak moment at a concert in West Orange, New Jersey on Sunday, Rowland’s already-revealing top—shown above, while still (nominally) containing her assets—migrated up her chest and unleashed her twin commanders.

Rowland managed to bounce back and make a good-natured recovery, even going as far as joking about it on Titter (er, Twitter). “New Jersey crowd was amazing!! hope you enjoyed the show and didnt mind the peekaboo LOL!!! #kanyeshrug #stuffhappens,” she wrote.

Rowland is currently on tour in support of her recently-released album Here I Am, which contains her high-charting single “Motivation.” And with Minaj vanquished (a full pair always beats a single areola in Accidental Flasher Poker) and Janet Jackson in the rear view, Rowland is now the reigning wardrobe malfunction champion. The (braless) ball is in your court, Katy!

'Footloose': What country superstar is covering the title song for the upcoming remake? We reveal the soundtrack listing! -- EXCLUSIVE

K.C. Bailey

Everybody’s gonna be cutting loose and kicking of their Sunday shoes again this October when the remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon classic Footloose invades theaters.

This new version, set to open on Oct. 14, hews closely to the original and follows Ren McKormick (newcomer Kenny Wormald) as he struggles to adjust to a small town where dancing has been banned. Dancing with the Stars‘ Julianne Hough plays bad girl Ariel, who also happens to be the daughter of the town minister, portrayed by Dennis Quaid.

All the scenes that Footloose fans love (the acrobatic mill sequence; the “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” dance training montage) are present for the remake, along with some of the original soundtrack’s best known hits—albeit with a twist.

EW can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that The Voice cohost and country superstar Blake Shelton will be singing the title track, originally covered by Kenny Loggins. Wanna know what teen star is tackling “Almost Paradise?” Or what One Tree Hill actress is handling “Let’s Hear It for the Boy?” See below for the Footloose soundtrack reveal… READ FULL STORY »

The Music Mix Lady Gaga Monitor: The best of times and the worst of times?

Gaga-Twitpic

It’s been an eventful week for Lady Gaga. In fact, there’s so much going on that we’re bringing you a special catching-up-with-Lady-Gaga rap sheet, chronicling the good, the bad and the downright weird in the life and times of Her Ladyship.

High point: Lady Gaga appears to have casually dropped in for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour stop in Atlantic City on Saturday night. Spears gave her a shout-out from the stage, and Gaga popped up above the masses to greet fans in her as-per-usual uniform of leather newsboy cap and black bustier. Watch Gaga’s cameo after the jump. Kanye West drops 'Watch the Throne,' but not before comparing himself to Hitler

kanye-west

When he woke up this morning, rapper/producer/provocateur Kanye West probably expected there to be a lot of headlines about him flying around the Internet. And while there are plenty of people writing breathlessly about the arrival of Watch the Throne, his long-awaited album-length collaboration with Jay-Z, West is grabbing just as many Internet eyeballs because of his comments at the Big Chill festival in the U.K. over the weekend.

On Saturday night, West paused in the middle of his set to rant about how much people dislike him and how persecuted he always feels. “I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m f—ing insane, like I’m Hitler,” he told the crowd. “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.” That day will remain in the distant future for the people in attendance, who booed West for comparing himself to the architect of the Third Reich.

It seems like West is saying that he is hated as much as people hate Hitler, which seems hyperbolic even for him. Also, it probably isn’t even true. We haven’t done any sort of research on this, but we imagine Hitler’s approval rating is still way lower than Kanye’s, even though the former has been dead for six decades. READ FULL STORY »

Friday, round two: Katy Perry and Rebecca Black re-team onstage

Katy Perry and underage crooners: The lovefest continues.

Perry had some onstage “fun fun fun fun” with teen sensation Rebecca Black this weekend in Los Angeles. The “infamous” Black (Perry’s words, not ours!) made a surprise appearance alongside the “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” songstress for a rousing rendition of Black’s meme-tastic hit “Friday” on Aug. 5 — a Friday, conveniently. After the song, Perry gave Black a hug and a big-sisterly pat on the head, and the two proclaimed their mutual affection for one another.

After Black’s exit — to the delight of her fans — Perry shouted, “Dammit! I love the Internet.”

Teenage dream team? We’ll take it. Watch the video below: READ FULL STORY »

OutKast's Big Boi busted for drugs in Miami

Big-Boi

Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, half of the Grammy-winning hip-hop duo OutKast, was arrested Sunday in Florida on suspicion of drug possession, according to the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.

The substances he’s accused of having: Viagra, ecstasy pills and powder, and drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $16,000. Circumstances of the arrest weren’t immediately available.

Relations between Big Boi and OutKast partner “Andre 3000″ Benjamin had been strained over the years, even before their 2003 Speakerboxxx/The Love Below joint solo albums became a massive hit and won them three Grammys, including Album of the Year. (The pair has won six total.) However just this week, rapper Killer Mike, a frequent collaborator with OutKast, told CNN that Big Boi and Andre 3000 were back working together.

Of course, it’s too soon to know whether this arrest will seriously interrupt those plans, or merely be a minor distraction.

Most recently, Big Boi has been touring with Cee Lo Green. He also made a stop at this year’s Glastonbury Music Festival in June (see him perform “Shutterbug” there), and last year dropped his long awaited solo project Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, which earned an A- review from EW critic Simon Vozick-Levinson.

Big Boi’s representatives did not return calls for comment.

On the scene at Lollapalooza, day two: Eminem, Cee Lo, and (shhh! ) Foo Fighters

eminem

This is how the second day of Lollapalooza 2011 ended: With Wynonna Judd swinging her cramazing Ariel hair (she did not, alas, whip it back and forth) in the balcony during an epic two-and-half-hour “secret” Foo Fighters show at Chicago’s 1100-capacity Metro club.

But let’s start with how it began: Morning rain turned to sunshine in time for L.A. retro-soul shakers Fitz & the Tantrums‘ early-afternoon set on the main Music Unlimited stage.  Even as already-tipsy showgoers began to wilt in the heat like drunk little flowers, frontman Michael Fitzpatrick, in a crisp cranberry suit, and his leopard-print-clad leading lady Noelle Scaggs, were extra-sharp, turning up the volume on their shake-and-stomp grooviness to fill the super-sized space and give the crowd the “hits”: “Don’t Gotta Work It Out,” “Moneygrabber”—even a Fitz-ified take on the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).

The soul train continued on the adjacent Sony Stage with flashback-R&B smoothy Mayer Hawthorne, who pleaded good-naturedly with the audience to take their camera-phone pics all at once and then “actually be in the moment and enjoy the show, I know it’s crazy.” After a cascade of snaps and flashes, they were duly rewarded with his shimmying cover of the Isley Brothers’ classic “Work to Do.”

And work to do there was, Mr. Hawthorne—which is why I had to miss the rest of the set to quick-hustle over to the mercilessly sun-scorched Bud Light stage for reunited noise-punk aggro-vators Death from Above 1979, who (sarcastically) played a snatch of AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” but thrashed more like a Canadian Pantera on Quaaludes. You know how they say, If it’s too loud, you’re too old? Maybe I was just too hot. READ FULL STORY »
