Miranda Lambert, the current queen of country music, is working double time these days.

Not only is she promoting her new girl band, Pistol Annies, who released their debut album, Hell on Heels, on Tuesday, she’s beginning to gear up for the November 4 release of her own disc, Four The Record.

But Lambert, whose single “Baggage Claim” is quickly racing up the charts, isn’t just a performer—she’s a listener, too!

EW caught up with the no-nonsense blonde last week, and she told us about what she’s been playing on her iPod recently.

Check out Miranda’s music picks below: READ FULL STORY »

Stephen Malkmus changes a dirty lyric for radio; what's your favorite SFW correction?

Pavement

Stephen Malkmus has a new album with his band the Jicks called Mirror Traffic. It’s produced by Beck, features some of the most Pavement-esque tunes of his solo career, and is largely excellent. By far the most superior track on it is “The Senator,” a punchy blast of hard-jangle goodness.

Unfortunately, “The Senator” is not fit for radio consumption: the chorus is “I know what the Senator wants/ What the Senator wants is a blow job.” While that’s barely OK for this website, it would most definitely not work on the airwaves.

But Malkmus came up with a reasonable solution: He staged a contest and asked fans to make suggestions about what, exactly, the titular Senator should desire in the chorus of his song. The winning entry? “I know what the Senator wants/ What the Senator wants is a corn dog.” Malkmus will record the radio-friendly version in time for him to take over whatever airwaves might actually consider playing a Stephen Malkmus song (in between, we assume, 42 Ke$ha songs and seven hours of Spanish talk radio).

Malkmus seemed nonchalant about it, but other artists have been a bit more prickly about changing the words to their songs for the sake of being a little more palatable to a wider audience: READ FULL STORY »

Sinead O'Connor posts personal ad on her own website: 'Am in desperate need of a very sweet sex-starved man.' See her demands!

Sinead O’Connor has kept a relatively low profile in the last few years. I always assumed she was living the leisurely life of the quietly aging singer-songwriter, composing tone poems in a lovely estate somewhere in the countryside.

But readers, I was wrong — dead wrong!

In a column originally written for the Irish Independent, O’Connor explains that she’s been feeling a little bit unfulfilled lately. “My situation sexually/affectionately speaking is so dire that inanimate objects are starting to look good,” she says, adding, “I tell you, yams are looking like the winners.” After admitting to considering joining an Irish dating agency, she just comes right out and makes her plea: “Am in desperate need of a very sweet sex-starved man.” And she has requirements, including:

–”He must be no younger than 44.”

–”Must not be named Brian or Nigel.” READ FULL STORY »

Kenny Chesney, who bumped his Sunday show in Foxboro, Mass., up to Friday in advance of Hurricane Irene, isn’t the only one having to change a date because of the storm.

The Dave Matthews Band Caravan was to set up shop on NYC’s Governors Island Friday through Sunday, but the Saturday and Sunday events have been postponed. Ticket holders are “invited” to attend tonight’s concert, or wait until new Caravan Governors Island dates are announced. B.B. King’s Rib Rock Festival was to hit the Jones Beach Theater on Long Island Saturday night, but that show, also featuring The J. Geils Band, Buddy Guy, and Gary Clark Jr., has been canceled.

Ditto the Rib Rock Festival’s Saturday night stop at Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center, this weekend’s Afro-Punk Festival in Commodore Barry Park and Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in Tompkins Square Park, and Sunday’s Melanie Fiona, Jagged Edge, and Avant concert at Central Park Summerstage. Saturday’s Crosby, Stills & Nash Hamptons Rocks for Charity concert in Wainscott, NY has also been postponed.

With casinos in Atlantic City, NJ, already starting to close their doors, The Borgata has had to cancel three Frank Valli shows, postpone Donny Osmond’s Saturday gig to Oct. 9, and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sunday concert to Oct. 1.

Rihanna’s latest video is right on time.

“Cheers to the freakin’ weekend/ I’ll drink to that,” she sings on the hook. It’s party time, folks! And that’s exactly what the video makes apparent.

Behind the scenes footage of her LOUD tour and down time on the road is used here. Look out for shots of Rih-Rih in an elaborate getup while attending a festival, Kanye West and Jay-Z hitting the stage, Cee-Lo goofing off, and Avril Lavigne knocking back a drink. Must be nice having such a motley crew of friends.

Beyonce debuts music video for '1+1': Watch it here

Beyoncé first debuted “1+1″  on the season finale of American Idol back in May, and it, of course, appeared on her recent album 4. But now the pop diva has dropped a music video for the love vocals-focused love ballad.

Unlike the heavily produced spectacles Beyoncé often does, the video for “1+1″ is simple, much like the song itself: Beyoncé appears alone for the most of the clip, sometimes glittery, sometimes with water cascading all over her body. But she’s always: dramatic! And often with her hair blowing everywhere. (Those wind machines should get a cut of her profits.) But of course, this is Lady B we’re talking about, so that’s all standard. Would you expect anything else? The whole thing may be rather simple, but it’s hard to take your eyes off it.

Take a gander at the music video here:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets his grunge on: Watch his live cover of 'Lithium' here

At this point, “Joseph Gordon-Levitt” is basically synonymous with “sexy version of an unsexy dude”—he’s given us sexy brainiac, sexy heartbroken dumped guy, sexy cancer patient, and even sexy awkward preteen alien (OK, I apologize for that last one).

On Tuesday night at Seattle’s Neptune Theater, Gordon-Levitt proved he can just as convincingly pull off “sexy unwashed grunge god,” too.

Gordon-Levitt showed off his formidable musical talents with a live cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium”—a crowd favorite, of course, in late frontman Kurt Cobain’s home state—at a concert promoting his collaborative production company, hitRECord.

“Now and then it’s nice to just do something that’s not for the record, that’s just for tonight,” the actor said, just before unleashing his rendition. “I just wanna play this song, in this town.”

Watch Gordon-Levitt’s impressively true-to-form cover of “Lithium” below: READ FULL STORY »

Gossip site accuses Christina Aguilera of child abuse, her lawyer responds accordingly

Hannes Magerstaedt/Getty Images

Christina Aguilera’s lawyer sent a strongly worded letter to a celebrity gossip site after a photo of the singer holding her three-year-old son Max, who appears to have a black eye, showed up online with a more than suggestive headline.

The title above the photo on MediaTakeOut.com read, “CHILD ABUSE???? CHRISTINA AGUILERA’S SON IS PHOTO’D WITH A BLACK EYE!!!” without producing any real proof.

“To imply that she had something to do with this incident, without any investigation on your part whatsoever, is reckless and unconscionable,” Aguilera’s attorney, Eric Greenspan, writes in a letter. “Christina is a wonderful mother and was not present in the park when Max fell and hurt himself.”

MediaTakeOut has since removed the child abuse portion of the headline and added Greenspan’s explanation for the black eye.

Greenspan does not see the matter going any further, but has not spoken with Aguilera directly about the incident. “There are lines you’re just not supposed to cross, and that’s one of them,” he says exclusively to EW. “Accusing a mother—even hinting that a mother is guilty of child abuse, that’s a line you don’t cross.”

Lil Wayne releases 'How to Love' video, steers woman away from life of stripping

The lesson in Lil Wayne’s new video is clear: If you know better, you’ll do better.

In the long overdue clip for “How to Love,” currently No. 8 on the Billboard hot 100 chart, we see a young lady travel down two paths—during the first half she’s the product of a broken home and abusive father who becomes a stripper and spirals downward.

Then Wayne hits rewind and takes us down another route. That same girl watches her mother marry a man who loves her. In turn, the girl matures into a college student who knows what to look for in a man. Watch it after the jump.

Pitbull invites litigious Lindsay Lohan to the VMAs, says lyric about her is positive: Watch the video statement here

In an exceptionally strange turn of events last week, Lindsay Lohan heard a lyric from Pitbull’s massive worldwide hit “Give Me Everything,” didn’t like that her name was referenced, and decided to sue the rapper for defamation.

Pitbull isn’t the sort to take this kind of thing lying down, which is why he crafted a video statement that explains his stance on the issue and how he hopes to resolve it.

In the video below, Pitbull notes that the offending lyric in question (“I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan”) is actually a compliment, as having something “locked up” means you are in charge.

He also apologized for any mental anguish he may have caused her and, in an interesting twist, invited Lohan to come with him to this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, where he will be performing live (and will likely be busting out “Give Me Everything”).

Check out the entirety of his statement after the jump. READ FULL STORY »
