Blake Shelton debuts his 'Footloose' cover: Hear it here

Kick off your Sunday shoes, kids—Blake Shelton has gone Footloose.

The country superstar, who recently nabbed a CMA Award nomination for Entertainer of the Year, has premiered his new song, a faithful cover of Kenny Loggins’ classic fist-pumper “Footloose,” on The Boot. The song will appear on the soundtrack of the Footloose remake, which hits theaters on October 14.

Shelton doesn’t change up the track too much, but he does give it a slightly twangy country twist. “There’s really only one way to approach it,” he explains, “a fun, uptempo, catchy version just like Kenny Loggins did.” Well, mission accomplished!

I like Blake, but that was a somewhat cheesy and bland reproduction of a great song. His voice sounds great but this rendition pales in comparison(as I’m sure with the film).

Can’t beat Kenny’s original but I like that this isn’t too different. Hard to go wrong w/Blake.

Agreed! Was prepared to hate it, but it’s ok!

agrnleose2001 on September 4, 2011 I love the bibs and the option for the EVA vinyl insert. I am always looking for bibs that will keep my son’s clothes dry! My son has acid reflux and is still spitting up at almost 2 years old. These bibs also look really comfy!

Why not just use the original?

    • Craig

I agree, what’s the point of updating it, if it’s basically the same, but even a little cheesier!

They should have had The Bacon Brothers record it. But Blake does a good job with it.

As someone who dislikes country music, it’s really hard to like this. The original version is so classic to me in film/music history, and this kind of sounds like a High School Musical/Glee rendition.

I never was fan of the original, but this version really blows…

  • Anni

I can understand the words better in this version. Otherwise, it sounds pretty similar.

    • combatTVgirl

I noticed that too; I thought it was just me. Blake is actually MUCH easier to understand.

  • Thinkin’no

    Completely unnecessary

  • jason

    OMG, that is ATROCIOUS!

  • hephastia

This could have been a lot worse. It’s a decent cover, but I am disappointed. The vocal is very carefully done, but there’s not a lot of energy. For a song about musical rebellion, this is very safe and tidy.

I think you hit the nail on the head – it’s FINE, but it’s just so tame

Uneducated or ignorant? I think untinerested is a better word. Can u tell me on top of your head the history of Benin and the type of their government and their internal issues? You need also add the fact that foreign tourists are extincting species in Iran, so they are even less exposed to International issues.Additionally, I think because the state media over reporting the conflict, people tend to ignore it completely (suppose a telemarketer calls you every day to sell you the same product). There’s also a resentment coming from the fact that people think that while poverty is wide spread in Iran, there’s no justification for spending the oil money on Palestinians and Hizballah. There’s a mutual common racist feeling among Arabs and Iranians. Each side think that the other side is inferior (For that matter I have heard Arabs plainly say in their sermon that they are superior to the whole world) . The eaters of lizard and grasshopper is a title that commonly used in Iranian gossip circle to address Arabs. The best way to mobilize all Iranians is to tell them that somebody called Persian Gulf , Arabian Gulf . That also probably plays a role in turning Iranian away from paying more attention to the conflict and the region.Add the Shia-Sunni fight to it and it should be clear why they don’t care that much. The majority of people who need to care, are employees of the ministries of truth (such as memebrs of IRG and their families). They have to participate in the mandatory Two Minutes Hate and Hate Week in 1984 style. So, obviously, they believe in the governmental version of the story.

Blake is a great singer. The song is ok. All of the old songs from the movie are getting remade. Kenny’s version is a classic but Blake did a good job.

  • PN

They couldn’t find a pop singer to do the song? No knock to some country singers, but some country doesn’t fit very well in certain settings.

knedra326 on September 4, 2011 I just had a baby girl about a month ago and so I love that they offer beautiful organic burp cloths. The bubblegum & chocolate mouse colors are absolutely adorable. I love that their products are organic because we are a green family as much as we can be.
