In case you didn’t know, when actress Zooey Deschanel isn’t making the masses chuckle with her dry humor, she moonlights as the sweet voice of indie-folk duo She & Him.
That said, who better to call on when the good folks at Fox needed a theme song for New Girl – the sitcom debuting tonight at 9pm EST that she stars in — than Deschanel herself?
Zooey wrote the sugary cut. “Don’t let the sunshine fall from the sky/ Just find the sunshine in your own eyes,’ she sings “Hey Girl.”
Check out the song after the jump.
Like it? I was a fan the second I heard it on Vulture. And it’s also available for purchase on iTunes. Let us know what you think of it.

Cute
and this is why Zooey Deschanel is awesome.
or hated.
The writing is sort of generic. Some over acting. I love zooey though. I dunno. Maybe in a season or two they will eventually have some chemistry develop.
She has such a classicly beautiful voice. It makes me want to eat rainbows and dance, and then just sit there.
When someone eats rainbows, do they then sh*t Skittles?
Zooey can do no wrong. Love her to pieces.
This was an AWESOME show tonight! I can’t wait to see next week’s episode!
The show was very funny – better than I expected.
the show made me want to cut myself.
*Barf*
The show has been free on iTunes for literally 3 weeks. I watched the pilot two weeks ago and was like WoW…Fox really will pick up any horrible half hour sitcom, air it for a month and cancel it. The show was AWFUL, and Damon Wayans Jr. needs to stay on the seriously funny HAPPY ENDINGS on ABC. Zooey’s character is like EVERY other space case she always plays…and she is annoying as all get out. the only redeeming value of the ep was the douche bag jar. If you thought that was a good show, thats the reason why seriously funny good sitcoms never get a chance any more and why reality tv has taken over the networks.
LOVE this, the show and Zooey.
the beginning of the song reminds me of Hey Mama by Mat Kerney.
