This album ushered in the biggest movement and change in music since Beatlemania in that it sent music in a different direction by killing off other styles. Cobain’s death in ’94 also helped end grunge’s reign. What would have happend had he lived we’ll never know but he definitely started an important and unique genre.
It’s sad that music has not progressed and basically sounds the same twenty years later. Watching the Grammys and MTV awards only confirms the lousy state of music today.

I do think that people under estimate how powerful the Michael Jackson’s and typical top 40 music is. Yes, Nirvana kicked open a door. However, they and a few of their friends entered a house filled with thousands of crappy songs. Take a look at the charts over the last twenty years and you’ll see exactly what I mean. For every Nirvana there are 12 Britney Spears ready to take up the #1 position on the charts.
