Eighty-five-year-old Tony Bennett certainly isn’t letting his age get the best of him. After breaking a few records last week by becoming oldest living person to ever appear on the Billboard hot 100 singles chart with his stellar Amy Winehouse duet “Body and Soul,” he’s scored another success for the books the Albums chart today.
Bennett’s newly released Duets II, which featurs collabs with the likes of Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Aretha Franklin and Carrie Underwood, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums charts selling 179,000 copies in its first week.
The achievement makes the 14-time Grammy Award winner the oldest living artist ever to make it to the top spot. Prior to Bennett, Bob Dylan held the crown; his Together Through Life debuted at No. 1 in 2009 when he was a relatively sprightly 67.
Elsewhere on the chart, Lady Antebellum’s Own the Night comes in at No. 2, moving 125,000 units. While Adele’s 21 continues to power on at No. 3 with 117,000 sets purchased.

I’d rather they make Demi Lovato happen than them forcing that talentless Selena Gomez. At least Lovato can carry a tune.
Funny that it’s number one on Billboard but only number 12 on itunes??? Really?
Not really a surprise because most of his fanbase probably buy CD’s and doesn’t download music.
Shouldn’t everyone in the world have Adele’s CD by now? lol
They are buying two/three copies. They cant help it!
I bought a copy of Adele’s new cd just the other day for a friend who was very depressed. She seems much better now.
Yes, Amy’s voice does have a striking resemblence to Billy Holiday. Her talent had no boundaries in my book.
Tony Bennett great as always Amy Winehouse had voice an talent to be a excellent jazz singer.
Interesting you would say that. And I agree. Go to youtube and type in a tribute to amy winehouse. THere are a series of performances and interviews on various programs hosted by Jools Holland. Her earlier interview from 2004 stated that she was a jazz singer.
If that was the case she was truly the British equivalent of Billie Holliday. So I think what you said hit the nail on the head.
Kudos to Tony, but what’s most amazing is how Adele keeps ‘Rolling…’ Every other artist has one or two weeks at the top and then drop off the face of the earth, witness Gaga and Beyonce, But the incredible Miss ‘A’ just stays on top. In fact since ‘Someone Like You’ became a single six weeks ago ’21′s gone up again by 40 to 50K units. See the new video tomorrow for SLY!
Adele hasn’t gave me a quarter of the entertainment, talent, news or wow factor Lady Gaga delivers in spades. Gaga might not be outselling Adele, but worldwide she is holding off beyonce, britney, katy, and the rest of them. GAGA’s tour will outsell adele’s in a ridiculous way.
Unlike some artists trying to cash in the classics, Tony Bennett is a true classic himself. A national treasure.
Gaga has the best vocal on Tony’s album by a landslide. I’m happy for him but he should have made 3 songs with miss GAGA!
