Demi Lovato covers Lil Wayne's 'How to Love' in NYC: Watch it here

When she’s not skyscraping, Demi Lovato is dealing with lower-altitude issues like, for instance, How to Love.

Saturday night found the newly revitalized teen star in a corner tryna put it together (or rather, onstage at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom) by turning Weezy’s slow-jam lullaby into a first-person confessional/uplift anthem.

“I am going to cover a song right now,” she told the crowd. “It’s by a rap artist, not a rap song, and it’s on the radio right now. Do you guys know what it is?” You do, Music Mixer! Because we just told you. But watch it here, after the jump:

Taylor Swift teams with Hayley Williams in Nashville for 'That's What You Get': Watch it here!

One of the highlights of Taylor Swift’s massive Speak Now tour is the portion of the show that finds her covering songs by artists who hail from whatever city she happens to be playing in that night.

When she made her way to Newark, New Jersey, she whipped out Bon Jovi, while Detroit was treated to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” And who could forget the massive singalong to Tal Bachman’s “She’s So High” in Toronto?

On Friday night, Swift played Nashville, the town she currently calls home and the origin point for most of the country world. Would she choose a country classic to cover, or would she go meta and cover one of her own songs?

Ultimately, she called on Paramore singer and fro-yo pal Hayley Williams, who joined Swift on stage for a run through Paramore’s “That’s What You Get.” This news positively delighted everybody in the crowd, as Williams got a massive crowd pop when she was announced.

Were they excited to see her team up with her famous friend, or were they just really into her crazy bedazzled fanny pack? Decide for yourself by watching the video after the jump. (It’s a little shaky, but it settles down eventually, and the sound is good.) READ FULL STORY »

Demi Lovato talks her addiction and recovery in new video

Categories: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato, who was checked into a treatment center last year for issues involving bulimia and self-cutting, has opened up about her recovery process in a open letter to fans posted on her YouTube page. Rather than embracing the general pop-star tactic of publicly blaming everything on “exhaustion” or “bad tuna,” Lovato has been surprisingly open about her struggles, and her upcoming album, Unbroken, also addresses these issues, as well as the issue of partying all night long. Watch the emotional clip below. READ FULL STORY »

Are you ready for more Rebecca Black? Because she's ready for you

Rebecca Black just posted a video—on a Friday, no less!—saying that she has a “new video” arriving on her channel soon.

And yes, she used air quotes to describe this “new video,” which can only mean one thing. IT’S. COMING. BACK. (Or, that she “misunderstands” “the purpose” “of air quotes.”)

What do you think, readers? Is today Black Friday? Has our little Rebecca Black emerged victorious from the nasty copyright battle with Ark Music Factory? Will she have mercy on rapper/producer Patrice Wilson and keep his poetic verse in tact?  READ FULL STORY »

LMFAO don Speedos, get crotch-tastic in 'Sexy And I Know It' video

Musical aficionados of an older generation might argue that LMFAO‘s music is junk, but somehow, I doubt the “Party Rock”ers would care. The only junk they’re concerned with is their own.

In a music video for their new single, “Sexy And I Know It,” the duo don skimpy Speedos and introduce us to a few new members of their electro-rap troupe—members that (how do I put this?) could cause the group to flop.

Check out the rather NSFW video (which they recreated last night on Leno) below: READ FULL STORY »

John Mayer announces medical condition, cancels two shows and delays upcoming album

John-Mayer

Singer and guitarist John Mayer has two big gigs in the near future, but due to inflammation around his vocal chords known as a granuloma, he won’t be able to make either.

Mayer, 33, took to his Tumblr page today to say that he is “bummed to have to bow out of both the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles.”

The upcoming performances won’t be the only things slowed down by his ailment. Mayer’s forthcoming album, Born and Raised, “is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing,” he says. However, there’s still more singing to do that will have to wait until he’s healthy—meaning it won’t be released in 2011 as he planned.

Though he doesn’t know when exactly he’ll be 100% again, John’s comfortable with the care he’s receiving. “I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be,” he writes.  “I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear.”

Hugh Laurie: What's on My iPod -- an EW exclusive

Hugh-Laurie

Hugh Laurie has the blues — specifically, a whole album full of it: The Golden Globe-winning star of House, now coming up on its eighth season, recently ventured into music for the first time on record.

His debut, Let Them Talk, which was released Stateside last week (it came out in May in his native U.K.), opens a window on his longtime passion for the genre, and Laurie opened it further by telling EW about the songs and albums that inspire him daily.

WHAT’S ON MY IPOD
by Hugh Laurie

There is a lot on my iPod. Playing non-stop, top to bottom, I suspect it would easily outlive me. It doesn’t smoke, of course. But then I don’t shuffle.

I also don’t do playlists. I began to feel decadent, surrounding myself only with Favorites. Like a Maharajah who never eats a bad fig — how can you know how good figs are? Playlists give me the feeling that I’m driving into a cul-de-sac, while an album is actually going somewhere.

Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G Minor: I offer this partly to make you think I have hidden depths, and partly because it is exquisite and forms the basis of a balanced diet. I listen to it often, but never as background music. I will put it on and lie on the floor. It is absurdly romantic. READ FULL STORY »

R. Kelly says his new album, 'Black Panties,' gets back to his nasty ways: Are you going to miss his sweeter side?

r-kelly-pub

Last winter R&B icon R. Kelly dropped Love Letter, his most tasteful album in years. The ‘60s soul-inspired set was more about affection and courtship than threesomes and other R-rated exploits, which was the lane Kells had been cruising in for a while.

But yesterday on 107.5 WGCI’s The Morning Riot, Kelly announced that he’s headed back to Nastyville on his forthcoming album, brilliantly titled Black Panties.

“I just did the whole Love Letter joint and everybody’s thinking, ‘ That’s the direction he’s going now,’” Kelly said on his Chicago hometown station. “No! That was a moment in time, just like ‘Ignition’ and ‘Bump N’ Grind.’ Now this Black Panties is the new 12 Play.”

Of course he’s referring to his classic album, one that’s warmed up many fans’ nights since it came out in November 1993. Kelly even confessed that he has three kids of his own thanks to it. Whoa.

Kelly promises that the first single from Panties, “10 Minutes,” is coming soon. Though he didn’t reveal any details about it, I imagine that what we’ll be hearing will be fit to soundtrack various bedroom romps.

But considering the success he had with Love Letter, is leaning on raunchiness the way to go?  Its first single, “When a Woman Loves,” scored him major points in the R&B adult-contemporary world. And let’s not forget that Kells is a grown man. He’s 44. I’m not sure I want to hear about him doing things that artists nearly half his age (hello, Trey) do.

What do you think? Looking forward to Kelly getting back to his explicit ways? Or should he “grow up,” so to speak?

No Doubt says first album in 10 years will now be their first album in 11 years

Earlier this summer, the members of No Doubt met up with Entertainment Weekly and pushed play on a handful of songs the group was working on for its first album in a decade. They said the still-untitled collection would be out before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait a little longer still. In a statement on their website, they told the world that work on the new songs has been more involved than once predicted.

“Ideally our new record would be coming out this year but it’s just not ready yet,” the statement said. “We don’t want to rush this album just to get it out.  This collection of songs means everything to us and our only priority right now is to make sure that it’s the best album we can possibly make.  There is still more work for us to do.”

They assured fans that they would be kept abreast of the progress, and also noted that despite rumors about collaborations and producers dropping in, none of those should be trusted. “Please don’t believe anything you hear unless it comes from us,” the statement concluded.

Based on the tracks EW heard a few months ago, it sounds like the vibe lends itself more to a warm-weather release anyway, so why not wait to perfect the mix and hold out for a spring release? That would time everything out perfectly for a summer tour, which means that 2012 will be the year of No Doubt. Be prepared!
