Lady Gaga performs 'Marry the Night' for first time: watch the video here

Categories: Lady Gaga, Pop, Video Gaga

Shockingly, here’s something Lady Gaga hasn’t done before: A stripped-down performance of “Marry the Night,” from India, complete with sitar accompaniment.

The video marks Gaga’s first live performance of the song — minus her briefly singing a few stanzas in her Monster Ball HBO special — which will be her fifth single off Born This Way.   The video for “Marry the Night” is set for release sometime in the next few weeks, and the cover art has already been revealed on Gaga’s Twitter account.

She marked her first trip to India with this performance in New Dehli, telling fans, “I’ve waited a lifetime to come here tonight, and I’m very grateful. I’m so happy I get to be here and sing for all of you.”

Clear Channel cutting more on-air talent across the country -- is this the end of local radio?

radio-dying

Terrestrial radio is often taken for granted as a free thing that is always around and always will be, and even though most of it is invariably not very good, it’s a comforting curiosity to see how it varies from city to city any time you find yourself driving late at night in a rental car far from home.

There are always left-of-the-dial curiosities to be found and strange, static-filled discoveries to be made, even amidst the standardized pop, hip-hop, and classic-rock playlists. And for artists, there was the ever-present chance that a DJ could fall in love with a song and help it break out on a national level.

Though those playlists are carefully controlled and closely adhered to, there was typically enough room for variation to allow for some surprises in between spins of the latest Rihanna single or the umpteenth play of “Moves Like Jagger.”

Those days may be gone for good, though, with the recent moves made by Clear Channel, the country’s largest radio company and controller of roughly 850 radio stations. The company laid off hundreds of local DJs late last week, further cutting into one of the few things their 600-ish small market stations had going for them: Their inherent connection to the cities and towns they spring from. Taylor Swift contemplating legal action over supposed topless photo

Taylor Swift does not take personal attacks lightly (after all, she wrote a song and filmed a video in response to a bad review), which is why her team sent a cease-and-desist letter to a gossip website because of a supposed topless photo of the 21-year-old country crossover superstar.

Over the weekend, Celebrity Jihad posted a photo of a curly-haired blonde girl lying topless across a bed, claiming that it was a leaked photo of Swift. Shortly thereafter, Celebrity Jihad received a letter from Swift’s legal team asking that the photo be taken down, insisting that it was not in fact Swift.

The picture remains up at Celebrity Jihad, despite the site’s acknowledgement of Swift’s protest. A formal lawsuit could be the next step.

Here’s the thing: The picture obviously isn’t Taylor Swift, so this whole thing should theoretically go away pretty quickly. Still, with a hacker already arrested for unearthing nude photos of the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera, the message to young female stars remains steadfast: Nobody can steal your nude photos if said pictures don’t exist. Though if they can’t, apparently, they’re happy to fake it.

Unsung heroes: Nominate your favorite backup singers and musicians!

Anna-Ross-Duran-Duran

Duran Duran hit Madison Square Garden last week, and though they had special guests Mark Ronson and Scissor Sisters’ Ana Matronic join them onstage for “Girl Panic!” and “Safe (In the Heat of the Moment)”, respectively, I realized the person I was most excited to see outside the band was longtime backup singer Anna Ross (pictured, with Simon Le Bon).

I got oddly excited each time I caught her and I doing the same dance move at the same time. And dancing at a Duran Duran show is something you can count on — as sure as the audience chanting “Play the f—ing bass, John,” Nick Rhodes trying not to crack a smile, and my friend Sheila leaning over to tell me Simon’s choreography seconds before he does it (finger-licking during “Come Undone,” a spin during “The Reflex,” and jumps off a platform during “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Rio”).

Who are the backup singers and musicians you look forward to spying onstage when you go to see your favorite artists? Go!

When Amy Winehouse tragically passed away at the age of 27 this summer, the talented songstress left behind an all-too-short musical legacy. But while Winehouse left fans with her memorable hits and two studio albums, there was undoubtedly still more to come. Now, it’s no longer a matter of “if” fans will get to hear more from the late star, but when.

According to an announcement on Winehouse’s official website, Island Records will be releasing a posthumous album on Dec. 5. The album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, will feature 12 previously unreleased tracks from Winehouse, including alternate versions of classics (“Tears Dry,” “Valerie”), a number of covers (the Shirelles’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” bossa nova classic “The Girl From Ipanema,”  Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You”) and new compositions, including her duet with Tony Bennett.

The website calls the album, which was compiled by Winehouse’s longtime collaborators Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson, “a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman and serves as a reminder of Amy’s extraordinary powers as a songwriter, a singer and an interpreter of classics.”

Attention Twi-hards: The video for Christina Perri's 'A Thousand Years' has arrived! Watch here

Categories: Soundtracks, Twilight

Vampires — and the humans who love them — can all sink their teeth into this brand-new video by Christina Perri, from the Breaking Dawn: Part 1 soundtrack out November 8.

“A Thousand Years” features footage of an ethereal-looking Perri in an empty house full of candles (1000, perhaps?) intercut with Edward and Bella’s wedding footage and honeymoon clips. Sorry, Jacob.

Perri’s looking a little gothic-pop, which is great for the Twilight mood, but kind of reminds me of Goodbye Lullaby Avril Lavigne.

Adele cancels all live dates and promotional appearances for rest of year

Adele

Adele announced today that she is canceling all of her live dates and promotional appearances for the rest of the year. This news comes three weeks after the British singer canceled her sold-out U.S. tour because of a hemorrhage on her vocal chords.

Adele was due to play six U.K. dates next month but, according to an announcement on her website, the singer’s continuing problems with her throat have forced her to bow out of all her commitments until she recovers from an upcoming throat surgery, but that “a full recovery is expected.”

While the singer’s live appearances may be on hold, her album 21 continues to dominate the Billboard 200. The collection is currently enjoying its 13th week at number one. No album has spent more weeks in that position since 1998′s Titanic soundtrack.

Justin Bieber‘s manager Scooter Braun has compared the Canadian singer to the Beatles.

“I don’t want to draw comparisons,” he is quoted as saying by Billboard magazine, “but there was a band during the British Invasion that had girls screaming at them. I think you know who I’m talking about.”
