It was another big year for Chris Brown at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Only this time around, the rapper/singer wasn’t in attendance — though he tweeted a thank you message.
Brown, who appeared via a pre-recorded video (watch below), won three awards, alongside his “Look At Me Now” collaborators Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne, including Best Hip-Hop Video, People’s Champ Award, and the Reese’s Perfect Combo Award (which, as it turns out, is not so much about candy, as it is musical collaborations.)
Busta Rhymes, who was named the winner of the Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse, accepted the trophies on their behalf. Lil Wayne, who was also absent from last night’s show, walked away with two of his own BET Hip Hop Awards for both Best Live Performer and Lyricist of the Year. Click below for Brown’s video and a complete list of the night’s winners, including awards for Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Waka Flocka Flame.
Hosted by actor/comedian Mike Epps and emceed by rapper Da Brat, the event, which featured performances by Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, Big Sean, DMX, Young Jeezy, Heavy D, and T.I., awarded breakout star Nicki Minaj with the MVP of the Year and the Made-You-Look Award, while LL Cool J was presented with I Am Hip Hop Award for the iconic role he’s played in the world of hip hop.

More proof that hip hop is misogynistic. The only award Chris Brown deserves is six years in jail for battery and domestic violence. But the hip hop community embraces him.
amen
u mad huh, cuz he dooing his thang and its his yr. everybody embraces him bcuz theyve moved on from an almost 3 yr old incident and not keep dwelling on the past which is what u need 2 do. u can continue 2 hate cuz guess what all ur doing is giving him motivation and making him come even harder the next time around.
?
Beat a woman, win an award.
its so funny to me that whenever someone makes a comment about the reality that chris brown is a woman beater who is unstable and should seek help instead of deflecting comments by saying someone is hating on him that people actually get mad or disagree with that assesment. who can u? it takes alot for a person to change and most dont – despite how many years passed. its funny when u see woman cheerleading for him – its like wow how many times have u got hit in the head to even have that attitude. its no surprise why woman allow men to play a part in women disliking other women. so many women have no idea of sisterhood it shows. big ups to chris brown on his talents – he deserves that and thats where i draw the line period. other than that want a cookie. not a man.God bless all and anyone can call it what they will i could care less. feel free to hate on my comment.
Hey Fatima, if you got hit in the head with a forehead that size it would be diffcult for you to hold temper. Don’t judge him.
Despite any opinion that anyone has on him, he put out a great album. It can’t be denied. This is an award show for music, not for legal matters. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
It’s an award show for sell outs who make cookie cutter albums and use the same samples, ideas, lyrics, and artificial swagger that keeps repeating in the “music” industry. An award for making more of the same or going through the same motions to get more money from the same herd of followers.
That’s what I’m saying. MUSIC!!!
I wish others felt this way.
let it go!!! I guess it was ok for her to hit him with her STILETTOS and not get out HIS car when she was told… And if he would of called the police on her people would have something to say about that.. GET OVER IT!!!! Chris Brown is what’s POPPIN!!!!!
@fatima why are you hating on chris brown he already accepts what he did and was sorry people like you dont desreve to live in this world if your going to hate
thank you and god bless
Stop living in the past. Rihanna has moved on. Why haven’t you. Have you ever heard the term”Old garbage stinks”? Chris has made big turn around. If you had done something so bad, wouldn’t you want forgiveness? God forgives, so should you. What if God thought the way you did? It’s now 2011.
Instead of complaining, help or mentor a young girl fthat may be in an abusive relationship. Give some time or money into programs that deal with anger management for teenagers/young people.
Plz don’t hate on that man..He did his time for his actions, however as a woman I would never raise my hand to a man and don”t except a hit in return. She should have just walked away and moved on with her life, look at her now and she pregnant she tried to destroy Chris but his family and friends won’t let that go down. Sorry but your wrong let tha man live and that chick cont on her life… let it go TEAMBREEZY ALL DAY
He totally deserves way to go Chris..stop hating on him
Chris is a girl beater. FACT!
let that child live his life. He made a mistake as a TEENAGER and he paid for it.
So, why again is it ok to have black awards and not white? Just saying!
There are white award shows. Ever heard of the CMA’s?
Its not a black award show, its the hip hop awards. and did you not see white rappers during the Cypher?
Hip-Hop was created by black people. No argument there. But if you took the time to see where hip-hop is now, you’ll see some of the biggest acts coming up are white also. Not just Eminem. But Yelawolf. Or Machine Gun Kelly. Even producers behind the scenes. And to say there is no white awards show is like asking why there isn’t a white history month. Almost every other award show is about them for the most part.
THEY DO HAVE WHITE PEOPLE AWARDS!!! THE EMMEY’S, GOLDEN GLOBE, MTV MUSIC AND MOVIE AWARDS…..OSCAR THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON…. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE FEATURED IN THEM BUT NEVER THE MAIN ATTRACTION!!!!!! AND DNT FORGET SLIM SHADY IS WHITE!!! THIS WORLD IS FULL OF WHITE PEOPLE AWARDS AND WHITE PEOPLE SHOWS, THATS ALL WE SEE IS WHITE PEOPLE UNLESS U TUNE INTO BET!!!!! SO GET UR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE U TALK ABOUT BLACK AND WHITE
the reality of it all is that we live and learn. Im sure hes learned from his mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. If Rhianna can forget about the incident and move on…maybe everyone else should too. Chris deserves to be recognized for the work he does….
thank you, sportsmamarocks. I just read an article on sohh.com where Rihanna says herself that she’s happy that he was able to get past all that and still break through.

When is Dr. Dre going to be recognized with a Life Time achievement or some other award for all of his musical influence throughout hip hop.
AGREE!!!!!!! Dr. Dre does deserve the I Am Hip Hop Award (their version of a lifetime achievement award) many times over for all the incredible contributions he’s given to hip-hop, from his old group NWA to Snoop Dogg to Eminem to 50 Cent and even forays into R&B when he had hits with Mary J.Blige, Michel’le and others over the years. I think they’re going through all the ’80s and ’90s artists first before they select him. They finally acknowledged Salt-N-Pepa last year and this year they’re honoring LL Cool J. I’m sure Dre’s in that BET Hip Hop Awards committee’s minds. Yes. some of his stuff is explicit, but he’s saying what on his mind on his records!

Winning big at BET awards.
That’s funny.
Why is this news it’s not like hip hop is real music it’s just crap ppl do when they can’t sing or play an insturment and can’t get into a good college or college at all
Wow. Can’t get into college at all? Prejudice much?
So if it’s such crap why bother to click the link about it, read or skim through the article and make a comment on it? Wouldn’t that mean that your life is just crap since you have nothing better to do but fixate on something that you dislike? Just saying
i am happy for chris, life is about learning from the past so you can enjoy the future!! deuces to the haters!!
yo he will bust rhianna again if he have too. thug life baby.
You go chris you the best, your HATERS ARE YOUR MOTIVATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So true.
And your fans use multiple exclamation points where one would be just as effective. Another sign that fans of this music aren’t the brightest folks on the earth. Supporting the articles’ subject as though the person were actually here. It’s like supporting a corpse; they don’t care if you do or not.
People need to get off of chris brown. He had a incident a couple of years ago, move on.
Nig*ers. Fuc*ing nig*ers.
**** you u raceist ****er!
I am pleased that Lex Luger won producer of the year. He has this hip-hop with those high and icy synths and keyboards for artists like Ace Hood (those 2 that he did for Ace’s album were solid), obviously Waka Flocka Flame, Rick Ross and a few others. A few other producers are copying his sound, but you can’t beat who did it first. But Chris Brown is a singer, even though he raps on Look at Me Now. And it did help that Busta Rhymes and Lil’ Wayne were on the song to keep the hip-hop side for an R&B artist.
It would have been interesting had Watch the Throne by Kanye West and Jay-Z would have been nominated, even though it came after the time they announced the award nominees. They would have won EVERYTHING!
I don’t get it, REALLY!! I’m white, but grew up with all blacks and hispanics and know how much EQUALITY
