Fox has announced the nominees for their 2nd annual American Country Awards—you know, that country music awards show that isn’t the CMAs, ACMs, or the CMT Music Awards—which will be hosted by Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth (can’t wait to see those two stand side-by-side!) on December 5.

Jason Aldean and Zac Brown Band, both of whom have had a pretty stellar 2011, lead the pack with eight nominations each, while newcomer Thompson Square nabbed a whopping seven nominations. The Band Perry and Taylor Swift each scored six.

Fresh off his strong debut week, American Idol winner Scotty McCreery received a nomination for Artist of the Year: New Artist (not to be confused with Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist), another signal that the country community has welcomed him warmly.

On the whole, the nominations are pretty much what you’d expect, but there are a few pleasant surprises. Pistol Annies scored a New Artist nomination, and Ashton Shepherd’s sassy “Look It Up” earned one for Music Video: Female. Both well-deserved.

The only real snub here seems like Blake Shelton’s smash single “Honey Bee,” which easily could have fit right into the Single of Year category.

Meaningless awards. CMA’s are all that matter. Go away, FOX.

    • Jim

I agree with you man. This show is a **ckin joke. FOX should discontinue this tragic mess of a country awards show. The two top shows that ACTUALLY MATTER, are the ACMs and CMAs.

  • Brad

I’m not even gonna bother. We all know FOX will show favortism to *cough cough* ..AI contestants.

  • Z

How could Hank Williams Jr. not score any nominations? Seriously though how many awards do these country folk need?

  • Phil

This isn’t just a FOX thing. The country artists obv. agreed to participate in this to further their sales during the holiday season. Everyone knows that during Oct. and Nov. a slew of country artists release their wares (which is why for the first time in years, BOTH Idol winners albums are out this month, and not the week of Black Friday in Nov.) so they can all perform & present during the CMAs and enjoy a sales boost. By hosting this awards during Dec. they get yet another shot in the arm a month later. And oh, expect Scotty to win whatever award he is nominated for.

  • Jen

Country music needs to get a grip and lose some of these nonsense award shows.

  • Dee

I can’t believe the semi-talented infant Scotty can get a nomination about five seconds after his blah album is released, and Christian Kane, who has been writing and performing terrific country rock for years, has been completely shut out despite releasing (in January 2010) an album without one dud on it! Grrrrr!

  • Otis

Why pick on Scotty? If Kane has been around for years, he wouldn’t be in Scotty’s category anyway. Kane may be your fave, but in this case majority and $ rules.
