Look, we know it’s only October 17, and Halloween still hasn’t worn out its welcome, and you still haven’t thought about which family members you’re going to avoid on Thanksgiving this year.
But whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to get into the Christmas spirit, because there’s a bevy of high-profile holiday albums on the horizon both expected (Michael Bublé), welcome (She & Him), and entirely out of left field (Scott Weiland).
Of all the Christmas records that will be flooding the market over the next few months, the one that has the potential to both do big business and make tween girls reconsider what to put in their letters to Santa belongs to Justin Bieber.
Under the Mistletoe, his collection of Christmas tunes both old and new, will be released to stores on November 1 and then immediately put into heavy rotation while you comb the racks at Macy’s. The album’s first single, the reggae-kissed “Mistletoe,” is now available, with the video premiering tomorrow on MTV. Give the song a well-tinseled spin after the jump.
First thing’s first: Bieber’s voice continues to change, but his transition appears to be going down smooth. It probably helps that he hasn’t suddenly become a basso profondo the way that John Francis Daly did between Freaks and Geeks and Bones.
Plus, as far as Christmas songs go, “Mistletoe” has a nice Jack Johnson-esque Santa-in-a-Speedo type of vibe to it, which is a pleasant departure from your uncle’s band’s version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Between this and the duet with Mariah Carey on the greatest Christmas song ever written, Under the Mistletoe has a good chance at being a recurring classic (though remember that the album also contains an appearance from Busta Rhymes, which is rarely good luck for anybody).
In other Bieber news, he apparently loves all holidays, as he’ll be hanging out with Ryan Seacrest on New Year’s Eve.
What do you think of “Mistletoe”? Leave your holly-wrapped thoughts in the comments.

More like cameltoe if you ask me.
God, what have I done??!!!!?!
I see a sex-change operation in this young man’s future.
Look, i’m a 33 yr old man, who LOVES pop music, and I can tolerate Bieber for sh!ts & giggles (the Hall & Oates sampling remix with Kanye & Raekwon from last winter’s “Never Say Never” remix disc is AWESOME!), but to call his voice changing, is just kinda crazy, this track is drenched in Auto-Tune in everyline he “sings”. And as far as Xmas tunes go…it just doesn’t even reach top 20 for me. Colbie Caillat’s “Mistletoe” is worlds better and much more original and authentic than this. Perhaps I’ll like another tune off his Xmas album, but this is utter crap, and all the hype leading up to this single release makes me extremely leary of what the rest of the craptacular holiday release will sound like. I love holiday music, but this is just for teens, no sensible adult can get into this track… standing under a mistletoe or not.
I suck and I know it!
Yippee!! Beaver for Christmas!
