Rihanna falls in love, goes off the rails in her new 'We Found Love' video: Watch it here

Leaked pictures from the set of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video last month made it seem like some the-wheat-fields-are-alive Sound of Music romp, but there is a distinct lack of raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens in the final product. Instead, it’s a Trainspotting-meets-Drugstore-Cowboy portrait of wasted youth and finding love in an apparently very pharmaceutical place.

Watch below:

Rihanna, never one to shy away from the outer edges of Youtube’s restricted 18-and-over button, takes bad romance to a much darker, grittier place than Britney Spears’ “Criminal” clip, released yesterday; in fact, it kind of makes Britney’s cartoon capers look Carmen Sandiego‘s.

But does it paint a too-glamorous portrait of crazy, stupid love for her young fans? Or is it RiRi’s prerogative to push the boundaries of dilated pupils, couch sex, and how many cigarettes two people can conceivably smoke simultaneously? (Apparently, the answer is nine). Let us know in the comments below.

This is obviously her “Cry Me A River” video to Chris Brown. Great Job Rihanna!!!

    • HoneyB

      was thinking the same thing.

    • Michael

Wow, yeah, what a dark video… some of those split second shots were really quite disturbing and in contrast with the beat of the song. But I realize that’s the point, I just don’t know yet if I like it or not.

The naysayers will start to roll in, but i dont care. I truly feel this is one of the best music videos i’ve seen in a LONG time. Kudos, Rihanna.

    • NBD

Haha of course the haters will hop on this, but i dont care either! Video of the year!!

      • jo blo

        Agreed. Amazingly directed video.

    • Dee

She remade “Requiem for a Dream” with a touch of “Sid and Nancy.” Clearly, genius

    • Aunt Sassy

I agree – I think it’s a BRILLIANT video – interesting, disturbing, and provocative – oh, and you can dance to it! I don’t LOVE the song, but I think the video is really great.

    HEAR HEAR!

  • Ms. Chanandler Bong

I love this song and what a crazy great video!

  • angie

I like it a lot – wasn’t crazy about the song at first…but have grown to love it and the video compliments the song very well.

That first sounds of the piano reminds me so much of David Gray’s “This Year’s Love.”

Love this video! And i loved Brit’s Criminal Video as well! Excited for Katy’s One That Got Away video next. All these girls have really delivered this year in the video department.

  • JT

I really love this video. I don’t really like Rihanna, and I loath this song, but I was really impressed. The imagery is really breathtaking and I really think it is her best video yet.

  • Jen

I love it! Haters are going to have a field day with this one but the video is awesome! #RihannNavy ! woo

    • Still Bill

Funny that you must be a hater if you don’t find anything artistic about her drug use. Her father is a known crack addict and her mother an alcoholic. No I find nothing cute about her use of drugs. Of course her fans will say it was he ex’s fault but he has no history of drug use we all know she does however!

  • R

    this video is great!

  • Gem

I think this is one of her best videos.

I think a lot of people don’t get the video but it has a deep meaning. Its not about drugs and partying. She is saying how love can be a beautiful thing, but also a painful, dangerous thing. Like a drug.

Their very being is so intertwined that the thought of not being together is like death, but they’re not good for each other so it has to end.

  • elena

Who is speaking in the beginning of the video? They sound fabulous. And the music video looks gorgeous.

    • Alyssa

      It’s Rihanna speaking. :)

      • Phil

Billboard claims its an unidentified Irish woman and as someone that has actually held a spoken conversation with Rihanna, there’s no way thats her with that accent. You are definitely mistaken.

      • Rois, Ireland

It’s impossible that that is an Irish accent. I think it’s English. I read somewhere that is was Agyness Deyn.

  • Zaza

I wanted to hate it, but I love it and made me like the song more..> Damn you RiRi you win again! lol

  • breezy

Wow…that video was so deep. I loved it!

Chris and Ri-Ri need to get back together!

    • Alyssa

The video is showing how painful and dangerous a relationship like that can be… but, it also shows how the highs can keep pulling you in.

Def not saying to get back into an abusive relationship.

    • Phil

Its saying she has moved on, and is trying to show other young girls hopelessly in love with chaotic messes, that its fun while it lasts but eventually you have to move on before you continue to hurt yourself.
I definitely think this is the most artistic & yet incredibly smart way to portray what she felt when she was with Chris. She def. doesn’t need to get back together with him. Ever. The Irish model/boxer captured Chris’ manic disregard perfectly. The images of the pills/capsules were entrancing, but there’s a moment towards the very end that even the bloomingflowers appear to have mini ‘capsules’ in their center and then the show pans out to her on the brink of tears. Simply stunning

      • Kate

Brown would be inane to get back together with her! He should stay far, far away.

      • Kate

        typo fixed. I meant insane.

    • Kate

Breezy, do not wish that on Brown.

  • Brian R

Now that’s a music video I can watch again…made me somewhat like the song.
