As we kept our ears perked up for this week’s best show tunes, we saw a trend: Family. In fact, we had a TV Jukebox first, with songs from both British folksters Richard and Linda Thompson and also their son Teddy.

As the Thompsons would know as well as anyone, family can take you on a crazy ride. This week’s music expressed that poetically and, at times, hilariously. From letdowns to glorious build-ups, harboring dark secrets and sweet memories, and encompassing Irish oddballs and naked roommates (see: New Girl), family takes all kinds. See this week’s picks below:  READ FULL STORY »

Madonna launches new 'Truth or Dare' lifestyle collection; we suggest five products she should consider

A couple of years ago, Madonna made her official foray into the fashion world with “Material Girl,” a contemporary line aimed at teenage girls.

Now, she’s ready to take on fashionistas her own age — and, well, slightly younger — with “Truth or Dare,” a new lifestyle collection aimed at women between the ages of 27-50.

“Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand,” Madonna said in a statement to Yahoo!. “The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix, who can help translate my vision to reality.”

Madonna is apparently planning to kick off “Truth or Dare” (which is also, famously, the title of a 1991 documentary about her Blond Ambition tour) with a fragrance next April, after which she’ll possibly add on accessories, handbags and underwear. Whether or not actual clothing makes the cut remains to be seen.

Now, since we don’t have much detail yet on what exactly the line will feature, we decided to come up with a few creative ideas of our own. Check out the list below to see the five products we think Madonna’s collection could include, and then share your own predictions in the comments. READ FULL STORY »

Lady Gaga Thanksgiving Special: Treat or turkey?

Guard your bird: Lady Gaga may be wearing it come Thanksgiving.

It was announced last night that ABC will air A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, a 90-minute prime-time special on November 24 featuring eight performances by Gaga as well as a sit-down with Katie Couric, all taking place at Gaga’s alma mater, New York’s Sacred Heart Catholic School.

If the promotional photo at left is any indication, Lady Gaga will be going full ice princess for this show. Perhaps they’ll be skating at Rockefeller Center as well?

Unlike the Thanksgiving specials Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have done in the past, Lady Gaga will be cooking up both current hits from Born This Way, as well as classic Christmas tunes, and she apparently “conceived and directed” the entire thing herself.

In an interesting holiday-spirit twist, Gaga will reportedly be performing in front of a small group of friends and family, not a Little Monster-style rave-up. It might be a nice treat to watch reaction shots of people who actually know her; I feel like there’s not a whole lot the public is still curious to know about her at this point, but if she does the interview with her family, it might show a different side to her, and may promote some goodwill.

Speaking of goodwill, with the theme of giving thanks, we can assume Gaga will also be talking up her just-launched charity passion project, the Born This Way Foundation, which she tweeted about earlier this week. “I’m proud to announce: My mommy + I have created “The Born This Way Foundation” A place for Bravery, Love, Acceptance.”

Did Chris Brown knock Drake out in a fight over Rihanna? His rep says the story is 'completely fabricated'

Verbal battles are nothing new in hip-hop and R&B — but this one may have gotten physical.

During an interview with British radio host Tim Westwood, Artist and on-air personality DJ Whoo Kid mentioned offhand that he had witnessed an altercation between Drake and Chris Brown over the former’s relationship with Rihanna.

“Thank God there’s Drake right now,” Whoo Kid said. “He has at least eight records on the radio that’s killing it. Him and Rihanna supposedly fooled around. I think he got elbowed by Chris Brown, too, but that never came out.”

Whoo Kid didn’t mention a time or a place when this incident happened, but when asked for more details, he says he knows exactly where the blow was delivered.

“In the chin, like in the corner. Left part,” he explained to Westwood, who then asked what happened after that. “Man down. Simple as that.”

UPDATE: DJ Whoo Kid tweeted that he and Westwood were joking on the radio, and that “Chris Brown did not knock out Drake!” Brown’s publicist responded to the statement, noting “the Whoo Kid story is completely fabricated and not true.”

You can listen to the audio of the interview below. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber talks baby drama and alleged baby mama on 'Today' -- VIDEO

Categories: Justin Bieber

His rep has called the paternity claims “malicious,” but Justin Bieber himself (who tweeted about the rumor earlier this week) is making sure his fans know the “Baby” singer does not have a baby. In front of hundreds of screaming fans, Bieber told Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, and Al Roker that Mariah Yeater’s claims that Bieber fathered her 3-month-old son are indeed false. “None of those allegations are true,” as fans behind him screeched in support. “I know I’m going to be a target, but I’m never going to be a victim.”

Bieber says not only has he never met Yeater, but his schedule doesn’t even permit him to sneak away with a fan. “It’s crazy, because every night after the show, I’m gone right from the stage right to my car, so it’s crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations,” he said. “But set the record straight: None of it is true.”

Bieber also talked to Today‘s host about his charitable efforts, but, interestingly enough, his fans appeared far more into supporting him amongst controversy than applauding his do-good attitude. Clip after the jump! READ FULL STORY »

Keith Urban undergoing throat surgery to remove polyp

Categories: Country, Y'all!

A spokesman for Keith Urban says the country star will undergo throat surgery later this month to remove a polyp on his vocal chords.

A statement from Urban’s publicist, Paul Freundlich, says the surgery is a minor outpatient procedure. It will require complete vocal rest followed by an indefinite period of recuperation.

Urban is postponing his “All For The Hall” concert to benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame. It was originally scheduled for Jan. 18. He is substantially scaling back appearances that require him to sing multiple songs. They will be rescheduled in 2012.

Until his surgery at the end of the month, Urban will honor his commitments that require only a one-song performance. He is scheduled to perform at the Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 9.

Urban is nominated for CMA entertainer and male vocalist of the year.

Pete Townshend calls iTunes a 'digital vampire' -- Do you agree?

In the wake of Steve Jobs’ passing, there have been an awful lot of tributes to the genius who gave the world a staggering amount of technological gadgets that we didn’t know we needed until we had them.

But the Who guitarist Pete Townshend won’t be casting  vote for Jobs’ sainthood; he recently declared iTunes “a digital vampire” that ultimately hurts musicians.

During a lecture at Britain’s 2011 Radio Festival earlier this week, Townshend threw out fighting words about a whole bevy of music industry-related issues, including iTunes, one of Jobs’ most influential creations. He referred to the music store as a “digital vampire,” gradually bleeding musicians dry by taking a cut of every download sold on the site.

His comments about Jobs seemed especially mixed; while he at one point referred to him as “one of the coolest guys on the planet,” he also admitted that he once “wanted to cut his balls off,” though that was all under the guise of Townshend’s “inner artist,” which made frequent appearances throughout the speech.

The central idea that concerns Townshend is a solid one — fundamentally, that artists should be compensated for their work no matter what the means of distribution are. “Whether the public listen or not, creative writers and musicians should get paid if their work generates money by virtue of its mere existence on radio, television, YouTube, Facebook or SoundCloud,” he explained. “If someone pretends to be me, or pretends that something I have created should be available to them free (because creativity has less value than an hour’s work by me as a musician in a pub) I wonder what has gone wrong with human morality and social justice.” READ FULL STORY »
