TV Jukebox: 'Up All Night,' 'Sons of Anarchy' feature our favorite songs on TV this week

It was a week of dynamic duos for music on TV. There was a couple just getting started (Bored To Death), one reviving a relationship (Up All Night), and another for whom “’til death do us part” looks likely to come sooner than expected (Sons of Anarchy). Enemies forged unlikely bonds (The Vampire Diaries, Community), and lovers played with fire (How To Make It in America). For sheer spectacle, though, the most dazzling duo of all was a pair of Michael Jackson hits that provided a bit of closure and a chance to look back fondly amid a sad week for fans of the King of Pop. Read on to see which show honored Jackson and where our other favorite “show tunes” fit in this week! READ FULL STORY »

Katy Perry's 'The One That Got Away' video: Old-age makeup, movie stars, and more -- watch it here!

Benjamin Button’s got nothing on Katy Perry.

Perry has just released the official video for “The One That Got Away,” her fond look back at lost love. My giant takeaway from this surprisingly downer clip? Katy Perry is seriously creepy looking as an old woman. She’s rocking the white hair, but her face, for all the effects, still looks young. I never thought I’d prefer her hair bubblegum pink. It’s disconcerting.

Watch the video below, complete with co-star Diego Luna: READ FULL STORY »

Latin Grammys: Calle 13 cleans up, Demi Lovato gets revealing

Last night in Las Vegas, the Latino music community gathered together at the Mandalay Bay Events Center for the 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards. Though the word “Grammys” is in there, the Latin Grammys tends to be a way looser show than its counterpart.

They’re a lot more diverse too: The big winners during last night’s show were Puerto Rican hip-hop collective Calle 13, who walked away with nine prizes (out of 10 total nominations) tied to their fourth album Entren Los Que Quieran. In fact, the only thing that kept them from scoring a clean sweep on their nominations was the fact that they were nominated twice in the same category.

The rest of the show, which aired on Univision and almost certainly clobbered that truly atrocious episode of The Office in the ratings, was a healthy mix of crossover performers and acts like Calle 13 who seem one big English-language single away from a massive break.

Shakira took home two awards (for Person of the Year and for Best Female Pop Album) and also performed a trio of tunes in the evening’s liveliest performances. Pitbull and Marc Anthony re-created their hit “Rain Over Me,” with Pit dropping some of the evening’s few English verses on stage.

However, the evening’s most eye-popping performance might have belonged to Demi Lovato. While the newly red-haired pop star did actually sing on stage, she did most of her head-turning on the red carpet, where she wore a pantsuit the completely redefined the idea of a plunging neckline. That’s an awful lot of cleavage, even for Las Vegas.

Check out the full list of nominees (with the winners in bold italics) after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

You’ve heard Rihanna give in to her Eurodisco urges on “We Found Love,” the synth-pounding first single off her upcoming album Talk That Talk.

Justin Bieber invited to appear on 'Maury', and other things that are never going to happen

Justin Bieber’s baby-daddy drama has had all of the makings of a perfect scandal: Crazed fans, strongly-worded lawsuits, paternity-denying tweets and, of course, a killer parody. The only thing missing? DNA test results on the Maury show.

Today, after earlier reports that Bieber would be taking a DNA test to prove he is not the father of a 20-year-old California woman’s three-month-old son, the show has issued an open invitation for Bieber to appear on the show to hear the results.

Former Maury producer Amy Rosenblum told the Huffington Post, “This would be a huge TV event. When I brought the DNA test to TV for the first time on Maury, I had no idea it would still be as popular today as it was then. Maury is trusted by millions of viewers and if Maury told Justin ‘You are not the father,’ everyone would believe it.”

Obvious publicity stunt? Absolutely. Bieber has about as much chance of appearing on Maury as he does breaking up with Selena Gomez for one of his Twitter stalkers followers. But still, we can dream — especially if there was any chance of the Biebs (who you know has got some moves) duplicating this dance: READ FULL STORY »

Florence + The Machine behind the scenes: An EW video exclusive

The dog days may be over, but you can go back to where it all began in the brand-new behind-the-scenes video of Florence + The Machine.

Featuring footage shot during the making of her recent, excellent Ceremonials, viewers are treated to not only exuberant performance of “Shake it Out” and “What The Water Gave Me,” but also her musings on the nitty-gritty of the recording process.

Like? Well, lying on the floor singing seance songs, for one — and explaining a studio instrument that she claims makes a sound, “like a zombie’s face being mashed in.” Listen in at 2:52 and try and tell us that’s not an accurate description of what you’re hearing.

Filmed to support The Creators Project, an arts initiative of Vice and Intel, the clip lets fans follow Welch’s excitement at recording at the famed Abbey Road Studios, as well as a trip down memory lane with Isa Summers to her very first studio–complete with a name-inspiring drawing. Sadly, the spaceman on the picture didn’t make it into the band.

Adele invites fans to see 'Royal Albert Hall' DVD for free, drops awesome trailer: Watch it here!

adele-trailer-grab_320.jpg

Adele may be on vocal rest in the wake of her successful vocal cord surgery, but thanks to the magic of video technology, the people who keep buying 21 (seriously, who are the 108,000 of you who just caught up last week?) can still experience the soulstress in a live setting.

In two weeks, Adele will release Live from the Royal Albert Hall, a DVD compendium of her concert at one of Britain’s most historic venues. Recorded in September, it features little more than a voice and a modest-sized orchestra. As you can see from the trailer below, sing-alongs were prevalent, as were her freshly toned blond locks. CMA Awards: Best and worst of the broadcast

The real winners were announced last night at the 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards. But here are a few more honors from the telecast that you should feel free to weigh in on:

Best Hosts: Obviously, Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are the only people eligible for this honor, but haven’t they become quite a dynamic duo? I can’t think of any pair I’d rather see overseeing an awards show. They’re funny and saucy without being mean, and they keep the show moving.

Between the Hank Williams Jr. parody and the Faith Hill/Tim McGraw anatomy check that opened the show, Underwood and Paisley had me literally tearing up with laughter. And just when you think they can’t endear you to themselves any more, they deliver a powerhouse vocal on “Remind Me.” Hey, Oscars, are you watching?

Best performance: Near the end of the show, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Vince Gill performed a touching medley of tunes in honor of country icon Glen Campbell, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The seasoned veteran, clearly moved by the kind gesture, watched proudly from his seat, even giving the trio a thumbs-up when Paisley began to sing “Galveston.” It was the night’s sweetest moment: READ FULL STORY »

Kelly Clarkson stars in her own 'VH1 Unplugged' special: Watch an exclusive clip here

You can tone down the instruments around her, but you can’t unplug Kelly Clarkson’s voice, which generates so much power that OPEC, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Exxon Mobil should investigate it as an alternative-energy source.

Clarkson shines in a five-song acoustic set she recently taped for a VH1 Unplugged special (airing on VH1.com Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. and then on VH1 Friday, Nov. 18 at 11 p.m.). The set list includes three tracks off her new album, Stronger, a fan favorite (rhymes with: “Shmince U Been Gone”), and an unexpected cover of Carrie Underwood’s “I Know You Won’t” — from Underwood’s 2007 album Carnival Ride — that pretty much TKOs the original.
