Madonna’s single “Give Me All Your Love” leaked yesterday, and perhaps to diehard fans it sounds like synthed-up angels singing hallelujahs.

For many of us though, it’s more like the musical equivalent of a bouquet of hydgrangeas. Madonna and manager Guy Oseary quickly responded that the leak was merely a demo and that completed versions of her new tracks won’t be released officially until the new year. That said, if this is the musical direction, Madonna is taking, it’s not a good omen. Hear the track — and our take on it — here: READ FULL STORY »

CMA Awards: Scotty McCreery talks tonight's performance -- and meeting Keith Urban in the men's room

Scotty-McCreery_review

They call tonight’s CMA Awards (ABC, 8 p.m. ET) “Country music’s biggest night,” and with more than 20 performers — including Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter, plus returning cohosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood — that seems like a fair assesment.

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, who last month topped the Billboard 200 chart with his debut release Clear As Day, knows all eyes will be on him when he takes the stage for the album cut that the show’s producers asked him to perform: his cover of “Walk In the Country,” a tune Urban sang when he was in the country trio The Ranch in 1997. “I’ll be in a room with Nashville’s biggest stars, and in a way I’ll be singing to prove myself and to say, ‘This is me,’” McCreery tells EW. “I’m still the newbie in Nashville. I’m that country-music fan that gets all giddy when I’m around those people.”

Will Urban, who’s been known to slap on his six-string and play backup for other performers, join him? We’ll have to wait to see. Regardless, the two already have an interesting awards show history. “The first time I met Keith Urban was in the bathroom at the CMT Awards,” McCreery says. “I wish maybe we could take that back. You don’t talk too much in the bathroom. So it was just kind of a ‘Hey.’ ‘Hey.’ It was funny, though.”  READ FULL STORY »

Conrad Murray on 'Today': 'Something happened when I was not in that room'

Just two days after Dr. Conrad Murray was declared guilty in Michael Jackson’s June 2009 death, the Today show has released a preview of a sitdown between Murray and correspondent Savannah Guthrie. Guthrie’s chat with Murray — filmed before the verdict was handed down — will air in two parts on Thursday and Friday morning in advance of a two-hour special Michael Jackson and the Doctor, which Murray filmed with U.K. Broadcaster Steve Hewlett in November 2009, before he was charged in Jackson’s death. The documentary features behind-the-scenes footage of Murray’s defense team as well as a particularly unsettling set of photos of Jackson’s disordered home. In his Today interview, the doctor steadfastly maintained his innocence, essentially blaming Jackson’s addiction for the singer’s death. See exactly what Murray had to say and watch the full preview after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber's 'Under The Mistletoe' debuts at No. 1; Wale, Susan Boyle, and Miranda Lambert follow

Justin-Bieber

A week of controversy stemming from a paternity suit that seems increasingly bogus didn’t stop the passionate Beliebers from pushing Justin Bieber’s Christmas set, Under the Mistletoe, into the top spot on the Billboard 200.

The disc scanned a fa-la-la-la-lot of copies — 210,000 total — in its first week, helping Under the Mistletoe become Bieber’s third number one album after My World 2.0  and Never Say Never: The Remixes, which debuted with 283,000 and 165,000 copies sold, respectively. If the scant 37 percent second weekend drop for Michael Bublé’s holiday album Christmas (which sold 89,000 discs this week, good for 8th place and a 230,000 total) is any indication, Bieber’s collection should enjoy strong sales throughout the holiday season.

Rapper Wale debuted in second place with a strong 164,000 copies of Ambition — by far his biggest sales week. Wale’s last album, 2009′s Attention Deficit, started with just 28,000 copies. The hip hop artist has been building hype over the course of this year by appearing on rap compilation Self-Made Vol. 1 in May and releasing his mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory on Jay-Z’s website Life and Times in August.

In third place, country star Miranda Lambert also enjoyed her best sales week, as her fourth album, Four the Record, shot up a 133,000 debut, giving the brassy singer the number one country album in the U.S. going into tonight’s CMA festivities. Four’s tally is just over twice the 66,000 that Lambert’s last disc, Revolution, sold when it debuted in 2009. That set has gone on to sell over 1.4 million copies.

In fourth was another new debut (six of the top ten albums were new releases!), Susan Boyle’s Someone to Watch Over Me, which shifted 132,000 units. Although that number is far below the 701,000 debut of her 2009 album I Dreamed a Dream and the 318,000 debut of her 2010 followup The Gift, Boyle has proven that during the holiday season she has staying power, so I wouldn’t count out Someone just yet. If nothing else, Boyle did succeed in finally pushing fellow Brit Adele out of the top four for the first time in 21‘s incredible 37-week run. In fifth place, 21 moved another 108,000 copies.

And then we have two more British acts! Florence + The Machine notched a solid sixth-place start by selling 105,000 copies of sophomore effort Ceremonials. The songstress and her backing crew gradually built a listening audience with the 2009 breakout single “The Dog Days Are Over,” which played heavily throughout 2010, and it appears that people like what they heard on Florence’s debut disc Lungs, which peaked at number 14 following a buzzy performance on the 2010 MTV VMAs, and has sold 738,000 copies total.

Last week’s chart champion, Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto, finished close behind in seventh, dropping 76 percent to 104,000 (551,000 total).

Tyrese’s first album in five years, Invitation, began in ninth place with 76,000. Tee Transformers star’s last disc, 2006′s Alter Ego, peaked at number 23, but it sold a stronger 116,000 copies in its first week. Oh, how Billboard times have changed… READ FULL STORY »

Pitbull countersues Lindsay Lohan for that 'Give Me Everything' lyric

Pitbull

Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to get out of her own way. After doffing her clothes for a Playboy payout and spending a handful of hours in jail, she came out finding that she had been countersued by Pitbull in response to a defamation suit she filed against him.

Back in August, Lohan filed against Pitbull because of a lyric in his hit “Give Me Everything” that went “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” The beleaguered actress felt that it was an unjust knock against her character (even though she had already been in jail once already), saying “the lyrics, by virtue of its wide appeal, condemnation, excoriation, disparaging or defamatory statements by the defendants about the plaintiff are destined to do irreparable harm to the plaintiff.” The suit was filed in New York, which has a civil rights law protecting a person from having his or her name exploited for commercial gain.

Since the suit was filed just prior to the MTV Video Music Awards, Pitbull did the gentlemanly thing and invited Lohan to join him at the show, where he was performing the song in question. He even left her a ticket at will call.

Lohan didn’t show up, and apparently Pitbull is done playing games, as he has filed a suit of his own against Lohan. His claims that he did in fact have just cause to write that lyric (because, of course, she actually spent time in jail) and also noted that she was ineligible to file the suit in the state of New York, as she clearly lives in California (or at least does time there).

What do you think? Will everybody drop their suits and walk away friendly? And do you agree with Pitbull and believe the lyric is fair? Give us everything in the comments.

Michael Jackson's deathbed up for auction

The bed where Michael Jackson took his last breath is up for sale. The queen-size piece is among hundreds of items from the Holmby Hills mansion where Jackson spent his final days that are set to hit the auction block next month. “We want to preserve the history of these items,” said celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions, which will sell the various antique furnishings, paintings and sculptures that surrounded the King of Pop as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts. The Carolwood Drive home where Jackson lived with his three children from December 2008 until his death on June 25, 2009, is separately up for sale.

A note from one of the children remains on a chalkboard inside the home’s sprawling kitchen, where three barstools were lined up against the center island — a perfect breakfast spot for the kids. “I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it’s for free,” the chalk note reads in childlike scrawl. The chalkboard will be sold as-is, and is expected to fetch more than $400. READ FULL STORY »

Who should win Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards? Nominee Jason Aldean has some opinions

Jason-Aldean

Tonight, the 45th Annual CMA Awards will bestow their highest honor, the Entertainer of the Year award, to either Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, or a pre-surgery Keith Urban.

Host Brad Paisley scored the title last year, while Taylor Swift picked up the prize in 2009. Keith Urban’s one and only EOTY award came in 2005. Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean are newcomers to the category, but both seem like major contenders, not just consolation nominees.

EW caught up with Aldean, who’s had a banner year thanks to the double platinum album My Kinda Party featuring hit singles “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” “Dirt Road Anthem,” and “Tattoos on this Town,” and a sold-out tour with Luke Bryan, which was recently extended into 2012.

How is the star feeling about possibly receiving country music’s highest honor?

“I’m not one of those people who usually says, ‘I’m just excited to be nominated,’ because it sounds so ridiculous,” says Aldean, “but in this case, with it being that award, I can honestly say that I am.” He quickly adds, with a competitive edge in his voice, “Still, that’s not saying that I don’t want to win it, because I want to!”

But if Aldean couldn’t win the award, he admits that he’d like to see Keith Urban take the trophy home. “He’s just a great musician,” the singer says. “I was out on tour with him a few years ago, and I got a chance to watch him perform every night, and to me, he’s an entertainer. He’s a good singer, he’s a great player, he’s a good entertainer—he’s the total package, and I found myself watching every night and being entertained. So if I had to pick somebody — and I couldn’t win it — I would definitely pick him.”

Who do you think deserves the CMA award for Entertainer of the Year? Will Aldean score a win on his first nomination? Or should a veteran like Paisley or Urban take home the prize? Sound off in the comments!

Rap legend Heavy D dies at age 44

Heavy D, leader of seminal hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz and the voice behind such key rise-of-a-genre tracks as “Now That We Found Love,” “Who’s the Man,” and “Somebody For Me,” as well as the iconic theme song to In Living Color, has passed away at the age of 44.

TMZ is reporting that the rapper was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles after being found unconscious, and passed away shortly after his arrival. No foul play is suspected, though his cause of death is currently unknown.

Heavy D was born Dwight Myers in Jamaica in 1967 but emigrated to Mount Vernon, New York with his parents as a young boy. After discovering rap music in junior high, he teamed up with backing crew the Boyz in high school.

Alongside his cohorts DJ Eddie F, Trouble T-Roy, and G-Wiz, he recorded a demo that found its way to the desk of Def Jam executive Andre Harrell, who alongside Russell Simmons had help launch the careers of LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and Run-DMC. Harrell signed Heavy D & the Boyz to his newly-launched Uptown Records label, and he released the group’s debut album Living Large in 1987. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber gets molded in clay for 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town' video: Watch it here!

If you’ve been in any sort of retail establishment over the past week, you know that the push towards Christmas is already in full swing.

The decorations are out, the sales are on, and the Canadian pop stars are churning out charming music videos that recall classic holiday specials.

OK, so that third thing is new this year. Still, if you think Justin Bieber’s just-released Yuletide collection Under the Mistletoe isn’t going to be a cornerstone of our collective gingerbread-flavored memories for decades to come, then you get a fat lump of coal in your stocking.

The album is expected to debut at the top of the Billboard album chart (which gets published tomorrow), and Bieber already dropped the record’s second video. The first was for the cool, Christmas-sexy “Mistletoe,” but this one is old school in more ways than one. (As an aside, “Christmas-sexy” is the one of the most upsetting made-up adjectives ever unleashed on this blog, second only to “Bieberotic.”)

“Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” drops the Biebs into the universe of the classic Rankin-Bass television special Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town. Many reindeer games ensue and drumming penguins take center stage. Pour yourself some early eggnog and watch the clip below: READ FULL STORY »

Ashanti to replace Fergie in the Black Eyed Peas? Not so fast. But we have a few ideas...

fergie

There has been quite a bit of internet talk over the past few days about the future of the Black Eyed Peas. Fergie will possibly be exiting the group to focus on family, and a few sources have whispered that R&B diva Ashanti would be taking her place as the resident lady Pea in the group.

However, a rep for the Black Eyed Peas tells EW that those rumors are categorically untrue. That’s a bummer for Ashanti, since those salad days of cooing over Ja Rule tracks are well behind her.

As for the Black Eyed Peas, their future is uncertain. It’s easy to forget that the group started out as a backpacker hip-hop trio that produced two relatively well-received albums (1998′s Behind the Front and 2000′s Bridging the Gap). However, those albums weren’t the commercial powerhouses that subsequent releases were once Fergie joined the fold for 2003′s Elephunk, which began the run of über-ubiquitous hit singles that continues through today.

So it’s probably in their best interest to have a little estrogen in the group, but with Fergie taking time off and Ashanti apparently not in the running, who could take on that all-important role? Here’s a quartet of wildly speculative ideas. READ FULL STORY »
