Yesterday, the “One Day” singer Matisyahu posted a photo on Twitter which showed him with a clean-shaven face. The photo was accompanied by a message: “At the break of day I look for you at sunrise When the tide comes in I lose my disguise.” The lines come from the song “Thunder,” which can be found on Matisyahu’s 2009 album, Light.

Amy Winehouse biopic still a possibility: Family would consider supporting project which 'told the truth' -- EXCLUSIVE

A spokesperson for Mitch Winehouse has told EW that the father of the late Amy Winehouse would consider allowing his daughter’s music to be used in a biopic.

Various recent media reports had quoted Mitch Winehouse as saying he would never allow Amy’s life story to be told in a film. But Winehouse’s spokesperson claims this is inaccurate and that “Mitch and the family would entertain ideas perhaps for a film but only one they were sure would tell the truth.”

However, Mitch Winehouse has poured cold water on the reports that Lady Gaga is set to play his daughter in a biopic. “I never said Lady Gaga will play Amy,” he wrote on his Twitter page yesterday.

'SNL' star Taran Killam's awesome interpretation of Robyn's 'Call Your Girlfriend' video: Watch it here

As the host of last weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, Katy Perry delivered a performance that was not quite as successful as fellow non-actress Taylor Swift’s outing but miles ahead of, say, (arguably also non-actress) January Jones.

And If nothing else, she proved that if her next solo album strikes out, she can always front a Florence + the Machine tribute act.

But the true highlight was musical guest Robyn, who spent the better part of the summer on the road with Perry as her opening act. The Swedish pop sensation acquitted herself nicely on the often-difficult SNL musical stage with both “Dancing on My Own” and “Call Your Girlfriend,” all while wearing truly impossible shoes.

Before she even took the stage, Robyn was clearly inspiring SNL cast members – especially Taran Killam, who delighted Towleroad when he turned on the camera at 4:30 in the morning last week to re-create Robyn’s video for “Call Your Girlfriend.”

With the help of a handful of other SNL regulars (including Bobby Moynihan operating the flashlight) and a very furry jacket, Killam nailed the clip’s low-budget, quirky charm with even more penny-pinching flare. Check it out below, and be ready to laugh as much as Vanessa Bayer does. READ FULL STORY »

Chord Overstreet solo track 'Beautiful Girl' leaks! Listen here

He may have just made his triumphant return to Glee (with some swoon-worthy pining for Mercedes) but Chord Overstreet is also making some sweet music on his own.

In this just-leaked clip for a new original song, “Beautiful Girl,” Overstreet leaves McKinley High behind and sings a sweet piano-accompanied ode to the girl of his dreams. Sorry, Santana — it’s probably safe to say it’s not you.

With its upbeat melody and boy-band-ready odes of love for lyrics, the song will undoubtedly be a hit with the Glee set — no surprise from the guy who gave a pretty killer Justin Bieber impression last season.

Jennifer Lopez stars in another ad, this time for expensive stereos

While her album Love? won’t be showing up on Entertainment Weekly‘s list of the 10 best albums of 2011 (you can see that list in the issue that hits newsstands this Friday, by the way), Jennifer Lopez has ultimately had more ups than downs this year.

Sure, her marriage ended and she got involved in this debacle with Mick Jagger and will.i.am, but Love? sold well, “On the Floor” shot her back up the charts, and she received consistently high marks for her run on American Idol.

She also cashed quite a few checks from the likes of car manufacturer Fiat, cosmetics company L’Oreal, and now fancy home-theater masterminds Harman/Kardon. In the new commercial, Lopez presides over a symphony of destruction that somehow acts as a metaphor for sonic self-improvement and contemporary comfort. Or something.

Music exec John Atterberry killed in Hollywood shooting rampage

Categories: In Memoriam

A music executive died Monday after being shot last week by a rampaging gunman in the heart of Hollywood, a hospital spokeswoman said. John Atterberry, who had worked with the Spice Girls, Jessica Simpson, and others, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, spokeswoman Simi Singer said.

The 40-year-old executive was shot in the face and upper body as he drove his Mercedes-Benz during Friday’s random attack. Atterberry was the only seriously injured victim of 26-year-old Tyler Brehm, who police say fired nearly 20 bullets in the air and at cars as he screamed that he wanted to die. He was killed by police minutes later. READ FULL STORY »

'T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)' video from Will.i.am, Jennifer Lopez, and Mick Jagger has arrived. So what's the most ridiculous part?

There is nothing more I could say here to entice you to watch the just-released video for “T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever),” the Will.i.am track featuring Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez that they (minus a video’d-in Jagger) previously performed on the American Music Awards.

Much like Stefon regularly says on SNL, this video has everything: psychedelic color wars, motorcycle stunts, and instantly appearing screens of Lopez having a pose-off with herself.

I think the fairest thing to say is it’s exactly what you were probably expecting — if what you were expecting was a 2 Fast 2 Furious outtake crossed with E.T. (the movie, not the Katy Perry song, although, honestly, that works too) that at some point around minute 2 turns into a video game portal into the next galaxy — with a shimmying, rocking Mick Jagger to guide the way.

I hope you don’t get motion sickness, because there is definitely an abundance of what appears to be strobe-light-lite once this video begins to defy gravity: READ FULL STORY »

Ke$ha covers Bob Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right,' totally doesn't embarrass herself

In the next issue of Entertainment Weekly, the writers of the music section will be calling out a notoriously awful and ill-advised cover as one of the worst songs of the year (no spoilers here; you’ll have to read our Best & Worst of 2011 issue to find out what it is).

Covers can deadly, especially when the recording involves a pop star taking on a revered piece of rock history. But leave it up to eternal curveball Ke$ha to make us eat our words.

Amnesty International is celebrating its 50th birthday with a compilation called Chimes of Freedom, a four-disc affair that features a whopping 76 covers of Bob Dylan songs. The entirety of the compilation is currently streaming for free on the organization’s Facebook page, with the proper album hitting stores on January 24.

The lineup is all over the place, with a handful of the usual suspects (Joan Baez, Billy Bragg, Tom Morello, Pete Seeger) and some more unusual choices (Adele, Jack’s Mannequin, Airborn Toxic Event, Bad Religion). But the real head-turners are the people from the pure pop universe, including Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5, Darren Criss, and Ke$ha.

The twist is that Ke$ha’s cover of Dylan’s venerable talking blues “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” is actually pretty good. She slows it way, way down and turns it into a slow-burning and devastating torch song, shifting the tone away from Dylan’s flippant indignation into incredible sadness. Give it a listen below.
