New details concerning Whitney Houston’s death on Saturday emerged today in a press conference with Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The BHPD has yet to declare an official cause of death, Rosen said, as they’re still waiting to receive toxicology results from the coroner’s office, which will likely take weeks.

Rosen confirmed that Houston was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel room by a member of her personal staff, and that the singer’s body was lifted out of the tub before first responders were able to arrive on the scene. Rosen added that the first responders found her unconscious; she was unresponsive to first aid and CPR. Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 pm.

The police have completed the preliminary phase of investigation, including any work on the Beverly Hilton premises, Rosen said. For now, they’re treating the situation as a “death case,” and not a homicide. Since a security hold has been placed on the case, further details, including 911 tapes, will remain unreleased until further notice.

Meanwhile, the AP has been told by anonymous sources that Houston’s body will be taken to New Jersey this afternoon and a funeral is planned there later in the week. Additionally, the sources claim that arrangements are being made by Newark’s Whigham Funeral Home, which handled the funeral of Houston’s father in 2003, though the funeral home has yet to comment.
