'Mad Men': The 'Zou Bisou, Bisou' song is already available on iTunes and vinyl (!)

You have to hand it to Matthew Weiner: The man knows how to get people talking. Even though Sunday night’s long-awaited fifth season premiere of Mad Men was scattershot (as most two-hour episodes of television tend to be), it’s owning the water-cooler scrums this morning.

The thing that sent people diving toward their Google machines was the new Mrs. Draper’s performance at her husband’s surprise party. “Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo” was a huge Google trend around midnight, though for people of a certain age, that only inspired memories of this candy-colored nightmare from childhood. The song in question is called “Zou Bisou, Bisou” (roughly, “Ooh, Kiss Kiss”) a tune that was initially recorded in English (by Sophia Loren, no less), then converted to mod French by Gillian Hill. That track was produced by George Martin, who would later turn the knobs for a bunch of rowdy rock & roll kids from Liverpool.

Anticipating the amount of discussion that actress Jessica Paré’s ultra-sexy interpretation would generate, the Mad Men gods have already made her recording available as an iTunes download and as a limited-edition 7″ vinyl single (with RJD2’s theme song from the show as the B side). That’s an awful lot of fetishizing going on, n’est-ce pas?

What did you think of Paré’s performance? And will you be acquiring the single for your personal digital or vinyl collection?
