At the end of the day, Les Mis is a hit.

The buzzy Oscar hopeful already rules at the box office, having earned the second-highest Christmas opening of all time. Now Billboard reports that the musical’s soundtrack has debuted at the number one spot on its Soundtracks chart, selling 43,000 units according to Nielsen SoundScan. Even more impressive: The album was released Friday, Dec. 21, while SoundScan’s tracking week ended on Sunday, Dec. 23, meaning Les Mis topped the chart after just three full days on sale. The soundtrack also appears at number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart, above releases by fun. and Kelly Clarkson.

As the title implies, Les MisĂ©rables: Highlights From the Motion Picture Soundtrack features just 20 tracks from the film, which is completely sung-through (just like the stage musical on which it’s based). Though there’s no word yet on whether Republic Records will release a more comprehensive soundtrack, the possibility seems likely if sales of the highlights album continue to climb. (It’s currently at the top of iTunes’s albums chart as well, beating out competition like Taylor Swift’s Red and Bruno Mars’s Unorthodox Jukebox.)

Billboard also has good news for presumptive Best Supporting Actress nominee Anne Hathaway — her haunting version of “I Dreamed a Dream” is the soundtrack’s best selling song, selling 20,000 copies so far. Take that, Samuel L. Jackson!
