They didn’t win Season 2 of The X-Factor, but the oft-shirtless, oft-skateboarding trio Emblem3 scored a record deal with Simon Cowell nonetheless.
Earlier this week, the guys unveiled their debut single, “Chloe,” a rather infectious bit of LFO-esque boardwalk pop, and within ten seconds of listening. I had already established a working theory: this song is about Khloe Kardashian.
It’s no secret that Khloe is often ranked as, well, how do I put this? — the least hot member of the Kardashian Klan. It sounds to me like Emblem3 is tapping into that pop cultural relegation (and, in turn, competitive sisterly relationships across the country) here — but with C’s instead of K’s. Just look at the first line: “Chloe, I know your sister turns everyone on/But you’re the one I want.”
The lyrics further describe this mysterious “sister,” saying, “Front page magazine/Everybody says that she’s a queen… she likes the flashing lights.” I mean, that’s gotta be Kim, right? Yes, all the Kardashian girls love the flashing lights, but Kim is the most shameless spotlight lover (Also: this). Khloe, by comparison, likes “candlelight.” (Indeed, a Khloe candle does exist.)
But why would Emblem3 randomly release a song about Khloe Kardashian? Well, the loudmouth reality star did host their season of The X-Factor (she’s reportedly been fired), and she was a confessed fan of them on the show. Seems logical enough. Or maybe they’re playing nice after skipping her other sister’s birthday party. Or maybe I’m not making any sense.
Give the song a listen and judge for yourself:
What do you think? Shouldn’t this be called “Khloe” instead?
