What feud? CMA Awards hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley got the country drama out of the way early on in the broadcast, addressing the recent Luke Bryan and Zac Brown beef by singing “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” with some new lyrics.
On cue, Bryan got up from his seat, found Brown sitting down the row, and locked him in a friendly bear hug. For the country-music uninitiated, Brown took issue with Bryan’s megahit song “That’s My Kind of Night,” calling it “the worst song” he’d ever heard.
Underwood and Paisley decided to start some more drama too, assigning Kelly Clarkson to feud with Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers to feud with Paisley, and, in the funniest joke of the night so far: Darius Rucker to feud with Julianne Hough, following her controversial blackface Halloween costume. Rucker LOL’d and shared high-fives with everyone nearby.
