Watch the new lyric video for 'True Detective' theme song 'Far from Any Road' by the Handsome Family -- EXCLUSIVE

This season of True Detective may be over, but the Show That Nearly Broke the Internet carries on in the hearts and minds and endless (but what is time, really? Let’s ask Rust) debates of obsessive fans.

At least they have a song to set their deep thoughts to: The Handsome Family’s excellent Southern-gothic “Far From Any Road,” which now has a new lyric video which you can watch exclusively here:

Says the band’s Rennie Sparks of the song, which the Handsome Family originally released in 2003:
“How strange to have an almost forgotten song from years ago resurrected and so showered with love! People keep asking us how we managed to write such a perfect song to open True Detective. They compliment us on all the various connections to the storyline we’ve managed to include and how perfectly our song emotionally sets the pace for each episode. They think I’m lying when I say that the song was written long before the TV show was a spark of an idea. Maybe time really is a flat circle. Maybe you do need to see a lot of darkness before you can see a little light. We’ve spent 20 years as a band of outsiders searching for ears that could hear us. At last I think we’ve found our Carcosa—that glorious kingdom built with the bricks of our deepest dreams.”

Of the photos in the clip, photographer Jason Creps says:

“All of the images  used in the video are images I have been shooting over the years as I travel out west.  From Big Bend to Joshua Tree, up through Utah and Wyoming and all points in-between. The police images and files came from my grandfathers old police records from the ’40s and ’50s. Criminals and desert landscapes just seemed like just the right thing for this song.”
