If a Mount Rushmore-style monument existed for metalheads, the late Ronnie James Dio would certainly be on it. As the frontman of Dio, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath (and a bunch of others), he’s more than earned his spot. And even if you don’t care much about smashes like “Holy Diver” or “The Mob Rules,” you have to give Dio credit for giving the world the metal horns.

This Tuesday, Dio gets a proper salute in the form of Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life, a tribute album that features songs from across his career performed by the likes of Metallica, Motorhead, Rob Halford, Killswitch Engage, Anthrax, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, and a bunch of others.

One of the previously unreleased gems comes from Tenacious D, who pitch in with a version of Dio’s “The Last In Line” (from the band’s 1984 album of the same name). Tenacious D founders Jack Black and Kyle Gass are noted Dio devotees (Black and Dio became pals, and Dio appeared in the D’s 2006 film The Pick of Destiny (and guested on that album’s “Kickapoo”), and they put their own unique spin on “The Last In Line.”

Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life will be available on Tuesday, but you can listen to the exclusive premiere of Tenacious D’s version of “The Last In Line” below.
