They say time heals all wounds, though the break between Prince and his original label Warner Bros. Records seemed beyond repair: So unhappy was the Purple One with his label bosses that he painted the word “SLAVE” on his face during most of his public appearances in 1993. But the two sides have figured out a way to sort things out, with Prince fans emerging as the big winners.

This morning, the artist and the label announced a new partnership that gives Prince ownership over the master recordings of his classic albums, with the promise of a ton of unreleased peak-era Prince tunes finally seeing the light of day. Those releases include a digitally-remastered, deluxe edition of Purple Rain, which turns 30 years old this year.

“A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros. Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship,” Prince said in a statement.

“Everyone at Warner Bros Records is delighted to be working with Prince once again: he is one of the world’s biggest stars and a truly unique talent” Warner Bros. Records chairman Cameron Strang said in the same statement. “We are also very excited about the release of new and re-mastered music from one of his greatest masterpieces.”

Prince is the king of the lost album, with hundreds of songs in the vaults. Some of those have been bootlegged over the years, but it’ll be amazing to hear the cleaned-up versions presented in Prince-blessed form. The leftovers from the Purple Rain era alone should make any “Darling Nikki” devotees salivate.

No release dates have been announced for any of these projects, but in the meantime, there’s Prince’s recent duet with the ever-kooky Zooey Deschanel.
