Lionel Richie to receive Lifetime Achievement trophy at 2014 BET Awards

He is “Truly” a legend, and BET will honor him as such.

Lionel Richie will be given the 2014 BET Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards, EW has learned. The 64-year-old singer/songwriter will perform at the ceremony, which will air live on June 29 at 8 p.m. from Nokia Theatre in L.A and is being hosted by Chris Rock.

Richie, who began his career in The Commodores before becoming a solo artist, has sold more than 100 million albums and scored five Grammy Awards, an Oscar (for “Say You, Say Me” from 1985’s White Nights), and nine No. 1 hits, including “Hello,” “Endless Love,” and “All Night Long (All Night).”

Previous recipients of the BET Lifetime Achievement Award include Whitney Houston, James Brown, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight, and Diana Ross.
